My furnace is fine, but I just wanted to be preventative and have it checked over for peace of mind for the rest of winter. This was the week of the ""Polar Vortex"". So, I first called another company (KB) to check it out.

Long story short, the CO levels on the exhaust were way high (500 when it should be under 100). Now, the CO inside the house was fine, it was just the exhaust vent. Still, a concern. They said it's probably the heat exchanger (though the flame test was fine) but to clean it and diagnose it, it would cost so much I might as well buy a new furnace ($3500).

So I called Midwest, told them the story and I wanted them for a second opinion. They came out and weren't here long and said, yeah, it's probably an issue with the exchangers and I should get a new furnace and they gave me basically the same estimate of $3500.

So, I was bummed out, having to buy a new furnace.

I called a third place (Priced Right) for another estimate. They said, ""Honestly, I don't think anything is wrong with your furnace"". He checked it over (just because he was there) and said he sees no indication of exchanger issues. He goes outside and noticed the exhaust vent was blowing right into the intake valve. I fixed the exhaust direction and he re-tested the CO levels and lo and behold, the CO levels were back to normal.

Now, I don't know what the deal was but it seems Midwest (and KB) should have caught that.

Made an appointment 2 months out to have my system serviced. The tech was supposed to be here between 8 am and 9 am. He called me at 9:45am to tell me he was on his way and would be there in 20 minutes max because he was ""double booked"". At 11:10 ( 3 hours and 10 minutes after the orignial appointment time) my Ring doorbell showed the guy sauntering up 5 minutes after I had to leave... I called the company, no offer for a discounted service or ANYTHING for waiting for over 3 hours for a service that never happened. No apologies for my time wasted or time off work, just an offer to ""reach out to the tech to tell him the appointment that he showed up to 3 hours late and 5 minutes after I had to finally leave- is now cancelled"".
Avoid this place they don't care enough about their consumer to be on time. Been a customer for 10 years but no more.

Horrible service. We were booked twice and were given 4 hour windows both times. No one showed up. Would get calls they were going to be there in an hour and no show! Twice! Since we have a new house, our furnace is covered under warranty. Only reason we have not found someone else.

STAY AWAY!!!!! I read some of the positive reviews and decided to hire Midwest Heating and Cooling to install an entire HVAC system in my house. Worked quickly but as soon as they were done and had my check they were out of there without any explanation of the system or use. A couple days later i lost power to my entire second story because they placed the main trunk on a junction box in the attic and shorted out the electrical. All this is fine and fixable but when I called to speak with the service manager Kenny. I told him that I'd like to resolve some of this prior to writing a review. He immediately launched into a very rude defense and told me that he would write a negative review on my Real Estate page in retaliation. He also told me that I was lucky that I didn't electrocute his crew. The man is seriously crazy and should not be anywhere near the public. So when I tried to call in to speak to the owner, Carrie who works the phone would not give me the owners name even though I asked repeatedly and she kept transferring me to Kenny. Already did that route and not going there again. Seriously this was one of the worst companies that I have worked with and my recommendation is; Don't Do It. Find another company!

And btw....the brand new unit that was installed cannot keep up with the heat and runs about 5' off. Called to have a tech come out and his answer was that I needed more attic ventilation (should have been said at time of install and then they charged me a service call fee).

Not so happy with their service. Second time in 18 months they're a no-show for a scheduled maintenance and we've been customers for years. I would label them ""unreliable"".

Had very similar experience that Adam J. had in 2013 although we bought our Lennox in 2009 which we paid nearly 6K for. Customer service and tech service thereafter has been HORRIBLE. The last experience was just during this Arctic cold and a month after our annual furnace maintenance. This is the SECOND time this has happened after an annual furnace check. So almost a month to the day later our furnace goes out. This is Arctic temps in KC but Midwest only has one lone service tech on call. We call on a Friday and get postponed to Saturday (Why? To get the extra off hours fee?). Anyway, the tech comes and says yup the furnace is broke now pay me money. We say wait a minute, we'll pay you when you fix it! He says nope you pay and then I leave and sometime I'll come back and fix it. So right away we called our original salesman who was on our side saying ""don't pay it until he fixes it"". Then he calls back and has a different tune saying you have to pay and then he'll leave and get the part to fix it. So THEY DON'T KEEP PARTS ON THE TRUCK. This whole practice it was explained, is supposedly to keep people from calling other businesses. All we wanted the the gd furnace fixed! They trusted us enough to get our $6,000 but don't enough to come back and get paid after they fix the furnace??? I really don't get these people. We were stuck in a freezing house with potentially no hope for repair because of these jerk offs! Eventually it was fixed but we will never, never EVER trust them again. Don't just walk, RUN, RUN, RUN AWAY!!!!

This past fall, I knew it was time to replace my 25 year old AC unit. I got three quotes. While other big names in this city have fancy salesmen with complex optionds, this old school, straight-shooting company came in with a bid $1200 less than a bigger company had for the exact same Lennox unit. Great install and follow up communication. Highly recommended.

I run a business in the Kansas City area and have used Midwest heating cooling and plumbing for our HVAC service for several years. Recently we had them out for one of our quarterly check ups. The service technician claimed one of our units was rusted, failing and needed repaired or replaced. They proposed a $4000 solution to repair the unit and a $7000 solution to replace it.

We decided to have a second company come out to check our units. They concluded that there were no issues and the units were working perfectly. We have signed up for our service contract moving forward with this other company.

This was extremely discouraging to find out we could have been charged this much to repair something that didn't need to be serviced. Question your service technician if repairs are suggested during routine maintenance.
