Extremely poor customer service! We recently had Michael and Sons give us an estimate for an attic fan replacement, which fortunately for us they never showed up for, as it would have been such a ripoff. Lesson learned for us to get more than one estimate and not trust a company that has their hands in so many facets of the business.

The quote was over $2,500 and included a 2,600 sq. ft. attic fan for 1,000 sq. ft. space with a humidistat which was unnecessary. They would have charged $1,800 for installation, siting the ""steep pitch"" of the roof; this is just a regular town house roof. The estimate was scheduled quickly, and we decided to accept it, thinking this was a trustworthy company, but when I called the office, the gal seemed clueless as to how to set up the installation, asking us questions about whether the technician had the supplies or if he had to order them. I was promised a callback but didn't receive one within 5 days so I called back. The second customer service rep was on the ball and scheduled it right away. That Friday visit was cancelled due to weather, and rescheduled for the following Monday, which was confirmed by email. The technician never called or showed up. When I called the office to check, I was placed on hold for 15 minutes and then put back into the queue. Then I got a strange email that afternoon, apologizing for failing to provide service in the first paragraph, and asking us to pay for the work as shown on the invoice in the next 2 paragraphs!

We have an electrician out right now. In less than 1.5 hours, a new attic fan was installed and operational, a light switch was replaced, and they'll be replacing an overhead fluorescent kitchen light with an LED one. Total project cost? $900.

Not happy with this company at all. They came & got us to sign up for services and then charged us $175 to cut a hole in the ceiling to look at a leak. We were pushed into a decision as we did not have electricity. I am going with a different company as we have tried & failed to schedule 4 times. The estimated cost for panel replacement is $1700 more than the competitors. They also charged $300 for a permit that other companies get for $189.

When I called to complain & try to get money back they said I could talk to a manager. Then they said someone would call me back. After two days nobody called. I called and was connected to a full VM box of a manager and it hung up.

I had asked the lady on the phone how she was doing and she sighed & said that she'd just been on the phone a lot.

I recommend you go with other folks for electronics or plumbing or HVAC. This company really doesn't care.

Update: 8/17/2020, the technician just called to try and schedule the installation. Clearly there are communication issues! Nobody has ever called me back other than him.

I am writing here in the hopes that somebody from this company will respond to me about my HVAC instillation. The company was unable to conduct the instillation, and then drive off without providing me next steps on how to complete the job. The company has promised to call me several times after I call the main line, but never a response. If you are reading this, please reach out to me.

Technician quality was good for a couple of small jobs, but very expensive and a bit too much on the sales side for my taste. He charged me more than $200 for 'analyzing the problem' - because there was no power... when the light switch was off. It was BS and I pushed back but he was talking around the issue so I didn't argue. (Decided to post my experience for others instead) He also suggested a brand new bathroom fan replacement for nearly $1,000 and hundreds of $$ more for additional (unneeded) services.

I found a fan motor replacement subsystem for less than $50 and will do the work myself. Would not recommend calling them to do any work unless you have lots of money to waste.

Update: I was contacted by the company and they wanted to see if they could make it right. I offered to call the customer service line if they provided a number -- and I never heard back. I'm not surprised.

Called Michael & Son in July for annual AC check. Nice, polite technician said I had to have 2.5lb freon at a cost of $500. He said freon prices had drastically increased & I had to pay for a 5lb container because that is ""how it came"". While he was adding freon, I called other companies. Told them age, make, model, etc of my ac unit & requested estimate for 2.5lbs of freon. They all said only charged for amount used (not 5lbs) and I received 3 estimates between $235-$260. By the time I got off phone, technician had finished and handed me bill for $560+!!! This company a ripoff. I am sure they sold the remaining 2.5lbs of freon in that container to another unsuspecting customer for over $500 also!

HORRIBLE customer service! I should have checked their rating before I scheduled an appointment. I scheduled an appointment to get an estimate to run a gas line to the gas meter which was being relocated from the basement to the exterior of the property. The appointment was scheduled at 12:00 pm but the service tech called me at 11: am and asked if he could come now. I explained to him that I was across town and would not be there until 12:00 pm per our appointment. The tech shows up a little after 1:00 pm and after inspecting the job, tells me that he can't do the work but the company could. He explained that he would talk to his manager and get back to me the following day. Three days later when I didn't here back from him, I called to inquiry as to the status of my service request. I was told by a manager, who apologized profusely, that he would look into it and then call me back by 11 am that morning. Several days later, when I didn't here from that manager, I called back again. Again the customer service tech apologized profusely and rescheduled my appointment with an ""expert"" plumber. The plumber called me 30 minutes before the appointment (8 - 10 am) to tell me he was on his way and that if I had any questions, to call him. I waited for about 25 minutes before I called him back to see if he had been delayed due to the storm. He said that he had already been to the property and when no one answered the front door, he left. I explained to him that it was a rental property and that the tenants were not home and asked why he didn't call me once he arrived or before he left. He kept repeating that no one answered the door, so he left. I couldn't understand why someone would come all the way to the property and then leave without calling to determine if the person was there or not or given the weather, was delayed. I was highly frustrated because I had been waiting outside in my car but never saw the service tech. After a few choice words, he returned to the property in less than 10 minutes. He inspected the job, submitted a quote, and then asked if I wanted him to start the work. I agreed to the work but explained to him that I had tenants and that I would have to give them advance notice prior to turning off gas to unit. I told him I would check with the tenants and then call back to schedule the work at a time and date convenient to tenants. He then told me that there was an $89.00 service fee that would be credited to my bill once the work was completed. I told him that this was the first time that anyone had mentioned anything about a service fee. I had no issues with paying the fee but after speaking with 4 different people including the first service tech who came out, no one mentioned anything about a service fee. I told him that I was going to schedule the work but explained to him on principal, that I would not be paying the fee. I even showed him the text message confirmation with no mention of a service fee. He called his manager who stated that they had a recording of me agreeing to the service fee and of course when I challenged him to produce it, he could not. I called the office the next day and requested a manager to express my frustration yet again. I had to rehash the entire story to the customer service representative before she sent me to yet another manager's voicemail. She promised if I left a voicemail I would here back for the manager later that day. I never heard back from the manager. I will not be calling Michael and Son's again and would highly suggest you not call them either unless you want unacceptable service. I glad I discovered this before they did any work.

If I could give zero stars--- I so would. We called this company for a diagnosis on our AC unit. The technician that came to my house was polite and courteous, HOWEVER not sure he knew what he was doing?? First he stated he was going to add Freon, which made us wonder since the AC unit was only 3 years old. Once he did add--the unit would still not blow out cold air? He then called someone on the phone--manager perhaps? He then stated our filter was on the outside of our house and should be on the inside. Not sure what that entailed--but we lost all confidence in this guy. He said he needed to order some parts and they would be back. Again 100 degree weather with no cold air. They r/s twice on us and then we gave up. Called a company called Airsys, Inc in Manassas and they came out the same day (although not the norm) and fixed the first ""obvious"" problem which was the outside unit metal vent was caked with muck and dirt (easy fix) however no one form Michael & sons even noticed???? The technicians from Airsys actually sent me pictures --unbelievable. Then they added a TXV (spelling?) kit to our inside unit which solved the second problem. A replace and recharge and WALA we have cold air!! Wow amazing what happens when you know what to do. Michael and son's technicians need more schooling !!! Again we will never use this company again---- BAAAAAADDDDDDDD

I don't know what happened at Michael and Sons. I used to be your biggest fan. Now you're my biggest disappointment. HVAC Technicians cancel their appointments or no show and never call the customer; managers ""in the field"" and do not call back. Had great experience with the Electricians, but so disappointed the standards are not the same for HVAC.

Do not use them - they will lie. The dispatcher claimed that the plumber was on their way, then two hours after the claimed arrival window they claimed that the guy had showed up but no one had answered. We are in quarantine - everyone was home. They are incompetent.
