These guys are a ripoff. I had a shower head that was leaking. The company said they had a $69 cost to come to the house but that this charge would be subtracted when the job was done. When the technician arrived he said that a part on the handle needed to be replaced and said the price for this job was $347. If I didn't agree, they would charge me the $69. I was shocked but since I needed the shower fixed, I reluctantly agreed. It took him less than 30 minutes to replace the part and complete the job.
I then asked to speak to a manager to ask how they came up with the price of $347 to replace a shower head part and he would not tell me. The manager was rude and simply said that ""they charge by the job"" and that this is what they charge and if I didn't like it, I should not have agreed.
I will never use this company again. A warning to others thinking about using them, make sure you get a quote from them before they come to the house.
Pauline K.Had them come out to do a tune up on our AC system as well as auger our clogged outside pipes. It took us having them come out 4 times just to get the pipes augered correctly because they kept forgetting part of their equipment. They tried to charge us more than once for a dispatch fee to come out and fix the problem that was never fixed right to begin with. Today I tried using my AC system for the first time since they ""gave it a tune up"". Keeping in mind this is a unit I have never been shown properly how to use it so when I turned on the air and no cold air came out when it had never done that before I called them to come check it out. It was just over their 30 day policy but the first time I had used this system since they touched it. A guy came out, stuck 1 wire on my unit and basically told me nothing was wrong that the 2 thermostats needed to have the same settings to work properly. I got charged 89 bucks for him to be in my house less than 5 minutes and literally do nothing. So far I have been gouged out of over 1k dollars by this company due to their negligence and unwillingness to admit their mistakes. I would highly recommend using a different company.
I just wanted ceiling lights (no fan) installed. They would not give me an estimate. When the technician showed up he gave me a quote that was extremely expensive and tried to sell me a home service contract. Basically I paid $69 just to say no way I would hire them.
Loren M.We needed a new HVAC because the previous owners were smokers and the house reeked. After talking to a few different companies, I decided to go with Michael and son. I am extremely grateful that I did. I'm not going to say it was smooth and effortless Process, but they were the most responsive company I've ever encountered. When I called about a problem, they would come out the next day or That night to fix it. There were many times their workers would come in the middle of the night. They worked very diligently to make sure that I was happy and make sure everything was in working order. And I can honestly say that the house no longer smells like smoke, which I largely A tribute to their HVAC and deodorizing spray. I really have never had such great customer service from a company before. If you want to ensure that your unit is going to be taken care of, I would definitely recommend going with this company.
Charles H.Months after the plumber neglected to close my water tank after working on it, creating a safety risk and allowing dirt to get in, I've found a major leak in the pipe he said he repaired. Nothing but a waste of time and money
I wanted to use Michael & Son to install a replacement hot water heater due to what I perceived to be a significant presence in the Richmond area, which may mean quick turn around on future service calls, and how well they are known. I learned my lesson. After a 10 minute sales pitch on their overall whole home service plans (think ""timeshare"" speech) and paying $69 to have them come out and look at my old hot water heater (yep...its a hot water heater) I got their quote which was 26% above another well known and highly reputable company in Richmond (that has a german shepherd mascot....) who was fantastic in providing a knowledgeable/professional quote and I would have used them without hesitation but it was going to take too long to get the unit I needed, and 30% above another smaller local company that was referred through one of the on-line home maintenance matchmaking companies. In addition to the quote being so high, their responsiveness to advising on install date options was not good and they never did respond to my request to get a copy of their warrantee in writing. Bottom line: for exactly the same hot water heater, install timeline, and warrantee I saved over $1000 by going with someone else - to me that's real money. When I called Michael & Son to let them know I was going with a different company, they didn't even ask why or how they could win my business. Later that evening I did get an email from them confirming that they would be at my house the next day to install the hot water heater that I had previously let them know they wouldn't be installing, so that took another email to correct.
Buyer beware - take your time to shop around.
Today I had their HVAC service to a rental property and it was a big surprise to me.
The technician came, I signed up an annual service plan, the tech suggested me to change the thermostat, I said OK. He went out to his truck, came back with a pack and replaced it.
He didn't mention to me how much the thermostat, neither tell me if there's any product selection. I didn't think much because a normal thermostat at Lowes or Home Depot is around $100.
The tech knows this is a rental property cause the tenant was there, it's small and old. After I paid the fee by credit card, he said he will send the receipt to my email.
I was shocked when I open my email and sees the receipt. The inspection fee should be waived if I sign up a plan but he charged $89, the thermostat is $445 because he put a topline one with voice control and wifi control. My tenant totally don't know how to use it and it's not worth to put this kind of top line product in a small and old rental property. Plus, he never asked me if I want this neither tell me how much is it.
I feel this is a very dishonest business conduction, kind of cheat. I can't believe Michael & Son would teach their employee to so such kind of thing. I might cancel the plan and never want to use them again.
(reply to the manager: your tech asked me to sign (on the ipad) before he provides service. He had never gone through any charge price with me (my tenant was there and she can prove), nether went through charged before he processes the credit card.) I called to your customer service right after I see the receipt, the young gentleman said he would have the tech to call me but no one called. Then I called again, the 2nd gentleman said he will inform his manager and it takes 24-48 hours to get back to me. )
M&S did some HVAC work on my home and caused thousands of dollars in damage and now wants to charge me to do work that should have been done at the time of installation. Customer service sucks. Been 2 weeks now and still trying to get someone out here to fix it. Got into a shouting match with the customer relations supervisor. What kind of shit is that. A person who is supposed to be the bridge between the company and the customer getting into a shouting match with a frustrated customer who has been trying to get a problem that they caused fixed.
Instead of addressing my concerns in my review Michael and Son chose to assassinate a grandmother's character with hearsay and lies. They are using bully tactics, because I won't provide them with my contractor's contract. I'm not going to give them confidential information; which is none of their business. So, they have decided to use my refusal to provide the information as justification to breach their contract and not complete the work they have been paid in full to do. I wasn't trying to get something for free. I just want the job they were contracted to do, to be done correctly and not break things then refuse to fix it. Michael and Son, you need to stop retaliation against the messenger for your unfavorable reviews and start doing quality work. I can't afford to fight this million-dollar corporation in court. But you can decide if you want to continue to give this company your money.
Donnell W.So my wife and I bought a standalone home Generator from Costco on sale 20kw Generac for $3900. I live in York County Virginia. I got 3 quotes Michael &Sons ,Gault Electric ,Hathaway Power. So the Michael and Sons Rep comes to my home and gives me the quote and says I hope we are in the ball park of the other 2 companies ,I told him no you are 3600 dollars more .He decides to start telling me about how much money he makes and he doesn't have to work a part time job because of the money he is paid from the company and that I should not let any other company come do my install because they are not good companies . Then proceeds to bad mouth the Reps for those companies and I never mentioned their names and says how those guys can't afford homes because the companies can't pay them enough blah blah blah.So I interrupt him because my wife has this look on her face like she could spit fire, So I say thanks for coming but we are going to go with another company and I would like for you to leave and don't worry about emailing me my quote.
He emails the quote and try to talk to me and my wife about not going with another company because it will be sloppy work , I turned around and left him standing outside .
Very unprofessional and I am in Fire Service and deal with people everyday ,but this guy should never be allowed to go out and give Estimates again if he is going to conduct business in that manner.
