We have used Michael And Son for approximately 15 years now, and they have always been terrific. However, the technician that we have been lucky enough to have do our HVAC inspections every year, Derrick Kelly, is beyond wonderful. He is efficient, he is on time, he is friendly, he asks questions and then ensures that you feel comfortable asking whatever you might need to know, etc. You have to like people to be in this line of business, not just be proficient at your job, and this is what makes Derrick different from others and it's what makes Michael And Son stand out as a company- highly skilled, super friendly people. Tech was on time and even called ahead. Very helpful but unfortunately wasn't able to fix my issue. Not the tech fault, the company will not install a customer provided furnace humidifier. I was quoted $1100.00ish for the same model and installed that I had which broke two days before. Retail price is around $350.00 which means install price is around $750.00. That is the price for a customer with the gold plan. Keep in mind the hole was already cut into the furnace and the water line was already installed, so not sure why it was so expensive. I have been very happy with the company so far but sometimes I just don't understand their cost structure.

This review is wholly based on the poor business practices of Michael and Son. I want to be clear the work they did was fine, the trouble started after the work. They were called out to fix an emergency leak, as the tenant I paid for the leak to be fixed. However there needed to be remolding done to replace dry wall that had been damaged. The land owner was to pay for this. The remolding team from Michael and son worked with the landowner and had her pay the deposit (half the amount of the repair) with their credit card. The work was done and rather than charging landowners card for the remainder of the repair they charged my card. So I didn't what I assume most of you would have, called them up to report this, they looked into it, admitted their mistake. They then charged the landowner the other half of the repair, and said they would refund my credit card. That was 12 days ago. I contacted them 6 days ago and after getting the run around I was in contact with one person who guaranteed he would take care of the refund. He put me on emails which purport to show that the issue was taken care of. A further 5 days later and still nothing has been done. I've contacted my credit card who have agreed to dispute the charge, I've contacted the FTC to report this as it's simply inexcusable to charge a credit card that was not related to the remolding, and without permission. I will next be looking into whether or not their behavior constitutes fraud, wire fraud, unauthorized use of a credit card. Hopefully they will be fined for their bad business practices after I file a complaint with the Virginia consumer protection agency.
