One star for the cost (nearly double the estimate), four stars for the quality of work.
We had M H Barnes come to my house to repair a leaky pipe behind the bathroom tub and install a J pipe for the washing machine. We were quoted about 2 hours to complete both jobs and given an estimate of about $350. When the plumber came to visit, he determined there was not in fact a leak under the tub, so would just need to install a J pipe for the washing machine. It ended up taking over three hours for this task alone and we were billed $620 (!), nearly double the estimate for the two tasks I thought the plumber would be addressing.
On numerous occasions, we sought an explanation as to why this took so much longer (and was so much more expensive) than anticipated, but were given the run-around. While the quality of work completed was good, we will not be using M H Barnes for our plumbing needs in the future.
Ivo G.Do not trust this company!
Earlier this year, they sent one of their plumbers to fix a radiator leak in my house. Long story short, the plumber said he would not charge me, because all he had to do is tighten the valve with pliers and the job did not require any disassembly.
We chatted little bit, and I asked him to provide me with a rough estimate of the cost of replacing all the radiator valves in the house because I was intending to change them in the nearest future, and was hoping to use his company for that. Then we chatted little bit more, I thanked him for the help, we shook hands, and he left. Few weeks later, I received a bill for the ""service.""
When I called Barnes Plumbing to discuss the bill, the person I spoke to gave me few excuses such as, ""the plumber told you he would not charge you, because he meant he would charge the property management company that called us instead,"" ""my plumber registered 3/4 of an hour of work,"" etc.
Very unprofessional behavior! Thank god I didn't have to rely on them for a serious repair.
I used Barnes Plumbing for services conducted about three months ago to fix a bathroom sink. They caused damage to my bathroom (estimated at $400) and the technician left without apologizing or acknowledging the damage. The owner, Mike, acknowledged the damage but despite repeated inquiries has dragged his feet on conducting repairs. At the company's request, I sent multiple photos of the damage and received no response. Over the nearly dozen times I've contacted the company periodically over the past two and a half months, the receptionist has told me Mike is ""shopping around"" for a repairman. No refund (partial or otherwise) has been issued. These are unethical, irresponsible business practices. Save your money and shop elsewhere.
This small, family-owned company has earned my trust-- they are honest, smart, and reasonable.
Jean G.I have used Barnes Plumbing 3 times and was very happy with their service UNTIL they broke the mirror on the medicine cabinet in the bathroom while replacing the faucet. I (the owner of the condo) called 5 times and left a message with the receptionist, who assured me she'd give the company's owner my message. At their request, I even sent a photo with an email. My tenant also called 4 times and again at their request sent a photo. Still no response. DO NOT use this company, because if they do any damage you will never have them do the right thing and take responsibility.
These folks have been taking care of my home and office buildings for over 30 years. I trust them with everything. They have helped with renovating bathrooms and fixing all kinds of plumbing and heating problems. This family run business is exceptionally trustworthy. I never hesitate to give them the key to my home or my office so they can come anytime when I am not available to be there.I would never hesitate to recommend Barnes Plumbing to anybody and everybody who has any commercial or residential plumbing needs.
Matt J.Barnes Plumbing and heating is knowledgeable, professional, and responsive. I had a gas leak which required my heat being shut off by Washington Gas. Barnes came out asap, fixed the problem right away. Could not be more pleased.
I had MH Barnes install a faucet and toilet a couple of weeks ago and it took two men over 4 hours to do so which resulted in a pretty heft bill. I needed a plumber for one of my clients and sent them to vent a dryer and add a drip pan to the water heater. They sent out a team and I was told they couldn't vent the dryer and they'd call me later about the drip pan. After numerous calls to them, I got a call back 4 days later to say they were too busy to do the job and that I should call someone else. Based on these 2 experiences, I cannot recommend them.
Barnes is horrible. They came to purportedly fix our plumbing and now both toilets are completely and totally backed up. Wed used them 3 years ago to fix it and the problem is the same. They are horrible. Do not use them. Incompetent beyond belief.
