JJ moved to Florida from Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 2004. He joined a Canadian firm for a project for the relining of municipal sewer systems in Sarasota County. The company established a division in Florida shortly thereafter. JJ was a key player in the Florida operations and continued in that role until 2012.

Once he had children, JJ recognized that being away from home for extended periods due to work was not ideal. He left the lining company and began working for a residential service plumber in Sarasota. Shortly after starting, he enrolled in and completed a four-year plumbing apprenticeship. After completing his apprenticeship, he studied for and earned his master plumber license.

In 2021, he founded Merit Plumbing to ensuring top-notch and convenient service for customers.
