Mercy Plumbing has been the 4th plumbing company I've called and used since I have moved to Katy in the last year. I will never use a company or service again if I have had a bad experience with them and this applied to the 3 (SAP Services, Lindsay Company, and The Katy Plumbing Company) I've used prior to Mercy Plumbing.

I would definitely recommend Mercy Plumbing to anyone looking for a trustworthy plumber. John helped me today with a gas pipe and was very upfront about it. He offered a very simple solution to me and priced the service more than fair. It definitely saved me money compared to other plumber services I have used.

They were super responsive and communicative through the process as well after I had booked my service appointment. I would get update calls on ETA and confirmation and showed up right at the beginning of the time window. Would definitely use them again!

Never tried their service because they refused to come out to give a quote. Instead quoting several thousand dollars without laying eyes on the project. John spoke with my sister and was very rude, stating"Well if you've had other people come out to look, why isn't it done by now". It's called getting estimates. If this is how you represent yourself to potential customers, I'd hate to see the quality of work.

TLDR; Predatory pricing, inexperienced plumbing staff (owner's 20-year-old son and his similarly aged helper), extremely unprofessional and rude owner, and poor practices around their labor guarantees.


My first interaction with Mercy Plumbing was an emergency situation where my house was left temporarily without water due to a shower valve that needed an immediate replacement. In a desperate state, I did my best to find the highest rated plumber to come by the next morning to assess the situation. Thankfully John, the owner, answered my call at 9pm, explained the situation thoroughly along with an estimate range ($600-$900 depending on the location of the pipes he said), and promised to have a plumber out to my Sugar Land home by the morning. Great!

Next morning I'm greeted by two teenage-looking kids with a matching company shirt on, which caught me off-guard. I don't know about you, but the kind of plumbers I'd like to hire are the balding, overweight, and buttcrack-revealing archetypes who put in the time to earn their title.

Long story short, the kids wanted $900 (the high end of the estimate) and the job was done. However a month later there was a hiccup related to this particular job, and assuming it was still under warranty (which it definitely still was at the time), I spoke to John the owner to discuss having someone come out to inspect an issue that may have surfaced as a result of their work. I totally regret making that call because unlike a sane, small-business owner who stands by their guarantees John instead proceeds to be extremely rude and deflect any responsibility for the situation. Not to mention at certain points of the conversation, he went as far as insinuating that I was lying to him, which really took me aback that a business owner would stoop that low. This was ultimately over a $50 cartridge that I felt could have been resolved amicably and professionally. But in the end, I did not want to deal with the owner's behavior and ultimately ate the cost to fix it myself. So much for the guarantee.


All in all, I plan on avoiding doing business with this company and any of its plumbers-in-training in the future.
I have no idea how they have 4.5 stars on Yelp, as I now see that the same negative themes I expressed here have also been pointed out by many others.

If you're considering Mercy, I encourage you to read the critical reviews and do your due diligence before working with such an anti-consumer company.

5 Stars! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Been looking for a plumber for some needed repairs/replacement on our 20 yo house. Called Mercy Plumbing to check out what needed to be done and how much it will cost, and was surprise to know they do free estimates. Who can beat that? I called 3 others but all were charging a service call fee. The day came for the service, The office kept as informed on their arrival by text or phone. They showed up on time wearing mask and shoe covers ( really appreciate that) after inspection they gave us an estimate and opportunity to haggle with the cost until we all agreed on it. Within hours they were back to start the job and finished to our satisfaction. The crew were very polite and courteous young men, and by the way they did the work somebody trained them very well. It's Good to know we have a reliable plumbing company in our neighborhood.

Awesome company. Other companies couldn't get to me as quick as I needed. Mercy plumbing actually called and ask if could they could come earlier. Yes please!!!!! They were honest about what needed fixing and worked at lightning speed. I just moved to this house and have saved their info as my go to plumber. Thanks again guys.

Unprofessional. This is how they respond to a negative review after THEY lost my check
I understand mistakes- I don't understand unprofessional text messages. Negative reviews aren't harassment but your response is just another example of the poor attitude. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine.
And I'm not mad you found it- I called multiple times asking you all about depositing it, wouldn't have done that is I didn't want you to get pd for the work that was done.

If you like dealing with incompetent people call them. The guy that came out quoted me $375. I said that's too much. He said how about $275? I reluctantly agreed but then got him to change the pee trap and check some other things for no extra charge. Very nice young man but I think he's been taught to see what you think the customer will pay which is why they won't give a quote over the phone.
I started to write him a check he said we don't take checks. I said well they should have told me that when I set up the appointment. He ended up taking the check.
That was the middle of May.
I called several times to extremely incompetent office workers to find out why they hadn't cashed my check. No one knew. Was told the owners wife would call me. She did and assured me she had my check and would go to the bank the next week. That was the first part of June.
The owner called me September 25 to say he had just found my check in the back of his desk and wanted to know if it was still good to cash.
I hung up on him!

I personally tried to change out my shower fixture and broke the valve. I needed the water back on ASAP because I have painters in the house and moving in within the next few days. One company said I needed to tear down the shower wall to fix it. I called Mercy Plumbing and they were able to fix it first thing in the morning before the painters showed up! Without tearing down any shower walls! He even went around the house to make sure nothing else was having issues and fixed a clogged drain at no cost. Would highly recommend this company who is looking for a reliable plumber!
