Marilyn C.I had water in my basement from an overflowing sump pit. Pump came on, made a lot of noise but ultimately pumped the water into my house through the floor drain and utility sink. Recommended repair: replace the sump pump. This was not the correct fix; but now there is a new pump installed and I am out $425 for the install. There was a lot of back and forth between me and the guy I believe is the owner. In retrospect he used a lot of scare tactics - I was uncomfortable with the replacement and paying for it - but he kept suggesting mine was going to go out any how and after 4 days of water, surely I don't want that problem!
He then told me he would need to come back the next day and remove part of the wall / ceiling to trace the plumbing...he said he couldn't quote the work, he had no idea the cost, he'd have to pull down the paneling and figure it out - then tell me the price. Ultimately I didn't trust him and the next morning I asked him not to come back - called a different plumber, who simply went through the floor drain to clear the blockage...for $165 total.
Be careful!!! I was sold equipment I didn't need and when I asked for a compromise, he told me no. Also, I found out later that he removed the piping that was connected to the battery back up pump, so now if the power goes out - I have no pump in the system.
Bottom line, It was a very bad experience, I believe he took advantage of me not knowing enough about sump pumps to understand that the work he was suggesting was not the correct solution in addition to trying to scare me into making a judgement call I was plainly concerned about. I am grateful it did not get any worse with him potentially damaging to my property.
