Nicole G.Another 5 star experience. Joe was our technician today and have nothing but great things to say. The entire Mendel team was extremely responsive and professional. Joe clearly discussed with my husband what maintenance was needed and got the job done, effectively and efficiently. Highly recommend this company for any HVAC maintenance needs!
Over priced and taking advantage of people. Use other local companies. Much more affordable.
The plumber did a good job, but their pricing worked out to be about $1,500 dollars per hour. They charged $549.00 to install a $60.00 part that took no more than 20 minutes
Joined the MendelCare program years ago, but haven't used them in over two years. I was frustrated when I was charged an ""emergency"" rate for them to come out in the afternoon to help diagnose an electrical problem. The breaker kept tripping and I couldn't find the outlet which had a problem. The tech found it, and outside outlet which got rainwater in it. Paid nearly $400 for the replacement of that outlet. Emergency rate for a MendelCare customer? Then what's the point in being part of a ""preferred customer"" program? So now I realized that auto renewed the program at $309 and I haven't used their service. Why I wasn't mailed a letter or invoice advising me I paid them and I would still be charged if I don't use their tune up service, idk. Well I do actually, this way they can walk away with over $600 the last couple years without having to provide any service. Done with this company and these tactics.
Fair enough. I will edit my review/rating for the response on here. However, I was told on today's call I was supposed to be getting invoices in regards to the auto renewal. A reminder to schedule tune ups is not an invoice. You are correct I did call today, and never received a response from the MendelCare representative. I wish they were more for calling back and responding to a matter as quickly as this response on Yelp. The call to change the outlet, was $241 instead of $400. I'll agree with that since it was a while ago. But this is the reason for leaving the company. Over $200 for an outlet. What's the purpose of MendelCare then? I think the company needs more transparency with pricing. That seems to be the most complaints from people and definitely caused me to not utilize the company any more.
Called Mendel to replace the battery on my back-up sump pump. The person answering the phone could Not comprehend what I needed. When the tech came out before he checked anything he said the whole system could need replacing. We immediately interrupted him , stating we only needed the back - up battery replaced. He told us they no longer carry that type of battery and told us the replacement battery was over $900. When we said that was ridiculous, he said the price was only $800 the day before , but keeps going up! He then pretended to make a call to check the price and said his manager was not there. We asked for a battery comparable to what we had. He said they didn't have them and said if we bought it ourselves he could put it in and quoted us $400 . He was very pushy and tried to get us to make an appt. but we did not. We bought the battery at Home Depot for $200. I called back to schedule an appt. for installation and phone rep said I had to sign and accept the proposal first. The proposal came in higher.I called back and got a different person who could not explain it. The following morning at 7am they called me back and left a message stating a discount would be given , but was not on the proposed fee. At that point I decided not to go forward and called to cancel the appt.Minutes later, the same phone rep called back stating they needed to confirm the cancellation. I told them never to call me again! I called Good Call plumbing.!They came out , and installed the battery we purchased in 10 minutes and charged me$180!!! Mendel tried to take advantage of us first trying to replace the whole system, and then trying to sell us a $900 battery, and then quoted us $400 for putting in a new battery .I honestly don't know how the tech from Mendel sleeps at night after intentionally trying to rip people off ! I will never call them again!
Way over priced. To run a new outlet from the breaker about 20 feet away in an unfinished basement they quoted me at close to $1000
I owe Mendel an apology for my previous negative review. I thought I was being overcharged but the plumber didn't explain what the job entailed. I had a second company come out and they wanted double the money.
The second company explained in detail how the job wasn't as simple as reconnecting a disposal and a faucet after having granite installed. I used the same height countertop and sink so I thought it was a simple one hour or so job.
The second plumber advised me that the way the previous owner had the plumbing arranged under the sink was out of code and that cuts had to be made in cabinets and new piping installed.
Had Mendel's plumber notified me of that I would have gladly accepted their estimate.
So I owe Mendel an apology and the one previous time I used them they were great!
So please disregard my previous negative review!!!
Kenny W.Mendel is nice and professional. Everyone I've worked with has been friendly and helpful. Three stars for that.
But I will never call them again, and here is why.
They charge way too much money. Call around to comparable companies about how much a membership is and what it offers and you'll likely see what I mean. And ask your friends about their preferred provider.
Recent example:
I needed a replacement for a sump pump battery they installed for me a few years ago. The device itself has a shrieking alarm telling me it's time to replace the battery. The exact battery is available from a reputable source online for $385. What does Mendel charge? $750. I am not kidding. That is only for the battery. To install the ""maintenance free"" AGM battery is $150, although the installation is simply turning two bolts. I guess I maybe understand the labor cost of sending a technician, but why the huge markup on the battery?? And that isn't even what I'm most upset about. When I read the manual for the NexPump AI sump pump, it clearly states that the AGM batteries last 4.5 years... but the tech who did this install never updated the setting on the NexPump beyond the default ""wet"" battery setting, which is now alarming me at 3.5 years. So that either means (1) the tech didn't know any better, which is unacceptable, since the installation cost over $2000, or (2) they know that customers will be reminded by the shrieking alarm on the NexPump in 3.5 years and want the money to do the work sooner, even though the battery lasts another year. I am telling myself it was just a mistake and it couldn't be the second thing.
So why three stars? I think Mendel is a decent, well run company with good intentions. One star deduction for the outrageous prices and one star deduction for botching the battery setup on my sump pump.
I am writing this review in hopes that someone from Mendel reads it and thinks about it. I am trying to be helpful and honest in my assessment.
Those issues I described are both fixable. I have nothing against Mendel and I hope they will (1) ensure that their future installs of NexPump AI set the AGM battery reminder at 4.5 years (not 3.5 years), and (2) consider a lower markup on their parts in general. The membership fee is also almost double the price I have secured for the same services at another provider who does equally good work. I couldn't imagine becoming a member again with that pricing gap, even though I had been a Mendel member for several years.
Richard H.We were out of town and got a warning from our alarm system temp sensor that the furnace was not working. Temp in the house was dangerously low at 42 with outside at zero. The technician showed up 4 hrs later and reset the thermostat and resolved the problem. While he was in the house he notice a small water leak on the floor in front of the refrigerator. Apparently there was a leak in the ice make. He mopped up the leak and shut off the water, preventing a huge potential problem. THANK YOU! NICE JOB!!
Customer beware. Always get several estimates/quotes for work being done. Mendel quoting me for things that the other plumbers said were simply just not needed! And when asked for the video footage from Mendel- the document wouldn't open. I would not recommend this company for plumbing services.
