I had a less than satisfactory experience with Mello Plumbing . When they came to look over what needed done they charged me by the hour for 2 men when only one was needed and the other was clearly being trained. They agreed to adjust the bill so I went ahead with the job. Then at the conclusion of the job they over charged me by 1/2 an hour -which for 2 men meant an additional $70. In addition the plumbers took it upon themselves to spend time on issues in the house that I had not requested and which were not necessary. In summary -they pad their bill

I have been a loyal customer of Mello Plumbing for upwards of 20 years; paid every bill on time, always enjoyed a pleasant working relationship and thought I could rely on them. Last week I phoned them because water was running out the bottom of my garbage disposal. I told them I was in a panic because this was just a few days before the start of Passover--a huge family holiday--when my kitchen would need to be in full swing for days. I got a call back from my regular tech who has been to my house countless times. He told me that they were ""booking two weeks out."" I said this was really an emergency, I was desperate. He said, sorry, two weeks. I asked if he could recommend anyone else, and he said no, they don't recommend people. I reiterated that I was desperate, and he said ""sorry.""
I know that replacing a garbage disposal takes about 20 minutes because I've had them do it before. What kind of local, service-oriented business denies a 20 minute repair job to a 20-year customer in an emergency? If my years of loyalty don't earn me some measure of consideration in that situation, whose business DO they value? I am appalled that they would be so callous and unconcerned about a regular customer of such long-standing. Obviously I could not expect emergency service from any other company as a new customer, so they completely hung me out to dry on the biggest holiday of the year.
My respect for this business is destroyed and I will never call them or recommend them again. In fact, if anyone ever tells me they need a plumber, I will make sure they don't call Mello.

Terrible office/appointment management. Called about a water heater being out, was told they would call me back to schedule. Get a call back that they cant come today and will be calling me first thing to schedule something the next day. Next day rolls around and i have to call them at noon to inquire. Im told they are all out and that she can take my number again to call me and see what they can do. 4 hours later still no call back, i call again and am told they have nothing for over a week!?? Why wasnt i told that in the first place, she said she couldnt make appointments before?? How on earth do you set up appointments when someone is always supposed to call and do so and never does.

Only reason for 2 stars is in the past they have done great work and i really wanted to stay with this company. Not so much anymore. Need better organization.

I called a week ago for an appt and rough estimate of what it might cost for a basic job: removal of about 4 feet of floor base-boards heating in an old house. Mr. Mello was very informative and gave me their hourly rate (OUCH, it was $80/hr, but that is the going rate for this area in Newport, RI). He imagined it would take and hour or two plus any parts used.

Their plumber (I forgot his name, thin older gentleman with a great mustache) called an hour before his morning call to give me a heads up. He showed up, confirmed what it was I wanted done. Did his work. He was neat and timely (he was in and out to the hour, exactly). Timely is important at $80/hr. He explained that i needed to bleed the radiators and that was it.

I am happy with the work. It only took an hour. He only used two caps and that was it. My bill will come in the mail. I don't expect any surprises. Upon getting that bill, i will bump up my rating to 5 stars. I like these guys...and i believe my mother and father used to use these guys when we were young.

I only wish they did furnace cleanings! Because I'd use them for that (we need one)

I have had in the past a good relationship with the company, so I decided to ask them for an estimate for replacing a tankless boiler. I have been promised an estimate ""in a couple of days"". Not only I received no estimate, but they did not return my calls either.

I have had a long association with this plumber (greater than 15 years). They have always been attentive and responsive. Their rates are acceptable and their work has always been above reproach. Their assessments have always been right on the mark with no ""padding"" to run up the cost. I highly recommend them.

I first contacted JEM plumbing. Never contact JEM plumbing they are a complete rip off. The repairman from Mello was on time,courteous and correctly diagnosed my problem swiftly. JEM quoted me a price of $482, Mello fixed my plumbing problem for $84.77(time and materials). Thanks you for your good service and I would absolutely recommend Mello Plumbing.
