I'll keep it short up front, then expand if you care to read further: if you're reading this review, you've just found your plumber. James ""Jim"" McNiff is the kind of honest, straightforward, and reliable perfectionist you want doing the plumbing in your home.
I first met Jim on the advice of a friend - we suffered a frozen clog during the sub-zero cold snap this past winter, and although he isn't a ""clog guy"" he called me back quickly and pointed me in the right direction.
So when we wanted to replace our inefficient oil furnace with a new gas system, Jim was my first call. He came through and inspected the system, measured every radiator in our home, and came up with the BTU requirement for our heating needs. (Note: this is the proper procedure, and if someone simply sells you the same size boiler, then they've already failed - that boiler could be under- or over-sized. Jim is the kind of guy who wants to work with his own data to get it right).
Jim then wrote up three different options for us to pursue, mapped out the rebate incentives available from our energy provider, and gave us a timeframe for how long each one would take. We chose a system and he talked us through what to expect.
To put it simply: the work was perfect. Not only did Jim install a beautiful new system, he even was able to compress the footprint, saving us 14 square feet in our basement. That kind of foresight comes only from experience. When you watch him work, you realize he's lined up all of his fittings from small to large, and has everything mapped in advance; the man is looking for perfection.
Everything works perfectly now - our heat is silent, reliable, and best of all - much cheaper now. The contractors Jim had to bring in did an excellent job as well.
So if you're looking for a great plumber to do the job right - you've found your man. Jim McNiff is.... the man.

Jim McNiff has done a few small jobs for our family. The first time he showed up, my father with dementia told him to take a hike. Jim was patient and understanding and returned and did the job and could not have been more understanding. He has since done a couple of more jobs for us. He is extremely professional, responsive and reasonably priced. We really couldn't have been more grateful for his help. Great guy.

I have used Jim to install heat in my house, update the plumbing in my bathroom and replace my old water heater. Every single time I call Jim he is quick to respond and gets the job done faster than I ever expect. His pricing is more than reasonable for the job he does, but most of all he is by far and away the most reliable person that has come to work on my house. I would recommend Jim to anyone that has plumbing or heating needs as there is nobody else out there doing the quality of work that Jim does at a more affordable price.

Excellent service! We discovered our hot water tank was leaking this morning around 11am and less than five hours later it is completely replaced and working fine. Jim gave us a quick response and quote and was here within the half hour to assess our tank and begin repairs. Couldn't be happier with the work.

Jim was recommended to us by a colleague. They were impressed with his work. We were equally impressed with the work he has done for us.

Specifically, Jim converted our home from an oil boiler to natural gas fired system. Our house is over 100 years old and required Jim to accurately size our system to order the new boiler as well as install it. He also lined up the necessary other tradesmen for the project and pulled the necessary permits from the town. We needed a chimney service to install a liner for our chimney, an oil tank removal service, removal of the old boiler and an electrician for wiring upgrades.

Jim lined up these contractors and accomplished the installation in less than one day!

We also used Jim for a needed repair recently. He was easy to contact and schedule and very fair with pricing.

I have a little experience in the trade having worked as a plumbers helper a few summers for my brother-in-law, a master plumber in PA. In my conversations with Jim I quickly came to the conclusion that he was 100 percent on the mark with his estimate of the situation and recommendations for the job.

Once again, McNiff to the rescue!
I'm a repeat customer who experienced a water heater leak at the worst possible time. McNiff came out on short notice and diagnosed the problem, fixed it and charged a fair price. He is on top of his game in all respects. Returns calls promptly, gives accurate time estimates, shows when he says he's going to and gets it right the first time -- both the diagnosis and the repair. He is the ONLY plumber I will call.

I would not recommend McNiff plumbing. Apparently it is acceptable for a plumber to damage adjacent recently installed work in his mind. I called him to do a simple toilet reinstall - I ended up with a hole in my recently installed tile! Unacceptable to me - but not to him - for McNiff - this was necessary to do his work, he did not care what it left me with. Find yourself another plumber!!!

I wanted to upgrade my old heating system, I called several people since this was a big job and he had a fair price and seemed trustworthy. I was switching to natural gas and changing the system from 1 heat zone for the whole house into multiple zones.

National Grid was a pain in the A** to deal with, but that shouldn't reflect on James in anyway.

He showed up when he said he would, did the work requested of him (and then a little extra) and stayed budget and completed the job on time. The new system looks good so far - I would recommend James for other jobs, and if I need other big plumbing jobs he would be my first phone call.
