I am so grateful to Clint, who told me before coming out that he would be able to fix my boiler. I had 2 other people come out and look at it, they said I needed to have the system replaced. This service was recommended by Neighbor.com, but unfortunately not a great service. I contacted Mcfarland and made an appointment, in which he rescheduled. I communicated how much I appreciate updates, and letting the customer know what's going on. We rescheduled for the next morning, and no show. No call, no text, and no follow up. Unprofessional, and I would not recommend them for the future. If you are looking for professional, follow through, open communication, and great customer service, keep looking.

My husband and I have used Clint's services several times. He's been very responsive over the phones and via texting, and has come to fix or look at everything from our radiators, to our boiler, to replacing a broken toilet. He's been fast, efficient, and very friendly and knowledgeable. He also accepts credit card payments, which is helpful for those emergency repairs! Great guy to go to for sure!

Update: After reading his response, I think it all came down to a misunderstanding about the original receipt. He got angry because he thought I lost the receipt. I should have tried to explain to him more on how shoeboxed.com works (it converts receipt into digital form and store it online). If I knew the receipt was so important to him, I would have kept it instead of mailing it off to shoeboxed. Since the repair was actually timely, and I got the parts cost reimbursed fully, I am increasing my review. He is skillful at what he does, although my overall experience was not a pleasant one.

So after my initial review, I went about trying to get the parts cost reimbursed. Turns out the unit is under insurance, and I should not have been charged in the first place.

I called the mechanic (Mcfarland), and he gave me his supplier (Johnstone Supply of Woburn) phone number. I called the supplier and gave them the unit's serial number. Turns out they put in the wrong serial number the first time around. Not sure how this happened because the # is clearly written on the unit.

In any case, the supplier immediately mailed me a check. It took some convincing on my part to get the mechanic to refund the ""markup"" on the parts. I was glad he agreed to do the right thing. I asked him to mail a check, but he insists on doing it face to face.

He says it's not his fault that his supplier messed up, so I try to sympathize and work around his schedule to meet him. First, he told me he would come to my house that day but did not show. Then he scheduled for a cafe in Cambridge at 10 a.m. on Monday, then texted me 6 a.m. that he cannot make it and wanted to meet at 8 a.m. at a different location. He was not happy that I cannot accommodate his last minute request. The scheduling and last minute cancellation happened a couple more times until he finally agreed to show up at my house this evening.

He gave the ""mark up"" amount in cash and asked me to sign that I received it which I did. He then demanded that I give him back the original receipt. I told him that I use shoeboxed.com and have already sent it over to them to get scanned. He got very upset that I did not have the original receipt, and started yelling. He continued cursing in front my house for a couple more minutes before driving away.

Overall a terrible experience. He could just admit his mistake and mailed me a check like his supplier did. But instead, he put the blame on his supplier and decided to take it out on the customer.

I woke up one morning without heat and found McFarland HVAC online. Clint showed up on time, that day, for a diagnosis (I now live in Quincy). He explained in detail what the problem was and he had to order the parts, but came back the next morning to install. He showed up on time again, completed the job and I had heat again. Yay! He didn't try to sell me on other services or parts either, and charged me the price that he quoted me at the diagnosis, no surprises, which was nice. If you are looking for a reliable HVAC person, Clint's your guy!
