We recently upgraded our heating and air conditioning unit. The friendly McElroy crew showed up on time and ready to go to work. The installation was done professionally and the areas left clean. The technician explained the installation and operation of the unit completely. I have dealt with McElroy in the past and know they will support the equipment they install. I would highly recommend McElroy to anyone for their heating/air conditioning needs.

I had a bad experience with another company and my neighbor recommended McElroys. I had a plugged sewer that had been cleaned ""hastily"" and plugged again within 6 weeks. James, the plumber from McElroys got it open and it's been open for over a year. Have used them for a few other jobs and all the techs have been knowledgeable, courteous and explained everything well.

They overcharge for time starting from the time that they dispatch including if the driver goes on lunch on his way to your house. I was charged for an additional 30 minutes that was not spent on my property but rather on lunch (admitted as such by the driver). If you want to overpay for labor that was not used on your call then call McElroy's! Otherwise I would suggest calling out an honest company! I also asked for a detailing of all charges and they left I have a $40 charge that was charged materials. So I guess make sure you ask him if that is every single charge or if they have neglected to mention one.

I called them for an emergency repair of my air conditioning - left a voicemail the night before at 7:30pm and NO ONE BOTHERED TO even RETURN MY CALL. Ended up going with someone else who, thankfully, was there at 8am the next day.

I've had McElroys over for furnace and AC checks for years. Always great service. They recently installed a faucet, shower valve and stop valves. I bought a faucet that would not fit my sink and the serviceman showed me what to look for. He was back a couple days later and installed the correct unit with NO extra trip charge. At the same time I had their electrical shop install 2 bathroom vent fans and new GFCI outlets. Both of these jobs were completed very professionally. I would recommend McElroys without hesitation.

McElroy's has been our preferred service provider for years and we've always had good experiences. Calls are returned in a timely fashion, techs are prompt and knowledgeable. Really appreciate that they service plumbing, HVAC, and electrical. They've worked on our bathroom pipes, installed our furnace, and addressed various electrical issues. Appreciate being able to call one company that I know I can trust.

It took two weeks to get the unit in. It finally came in on a Friday but they aren't open on Saturdays so we have to leave work early to pick it up. Really? You're not open on Saturdays? Even a half day would make it convenient for your customers, especially considering what you charge.

Probably the worst experience with a crappy electrician ever. He comes in with a bad attitude and then when I try to tell him what was going on with the wiring he got all angry and basically yelled saying he couldn't do his job if he didn't open it up and look at it and all I was trying to do was tell him what was going on with it what the other guy had said was going on with it. Then he left and kick my guttering off as he did. Going to be suing them for the home repairs. Avoid this company for electrical work at all cost.

This place was a no call, no show for an a/c issue on a HOT day. My dad took the whole afternoon off to make sure he would be there when the tech showed. The tech never called or anything! Will NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

Our heater went out on a Saturday night at the beginning of a 3 day cold stretch where temperatures were down in the single digits.
We called in a heating and air company to diagnose and fix the furnace, after looking at it they told me it needed a part they didn't carry; and the only place in town that did was McElroy's.
I called to see if I could get the part, they said it was impossible to sell parts on the weekend unless we scheduled a service call; since I didn't want to pay an additional $300 to have them come out and tell me what I'd already paid to know I asked if they could make an exception, or at least get the part from their store before they came to the house to save on time, they said no.

After leaving the family cold all weekend going on space heaters, I went on Monday to pick up the part; they happily sold it to me for $330 (online they sell for $150-180) and the parts manager mentioned that I must be the guy who called in on the weekend and tried to get his service guy to hypothetically go to McDonalds (next to their shop) so he could get the part then come to our house... In doing this he acted slightly belligerent, and I wrote it off because we needed heat.
While I was there I noted that their return policy was fairly strict, and they would not take back any parts that had been installed. I asked the receptionist if I would be able to return the part if we didn't end up using it, she said I could do that if it hadn't been opened and installed.

When I got back to the house with the part, because of scheduling yet another heating and air company had come in and told me that it might be better to replace the 20 year old furnace.. I was quoted a very fair price (less than two or three repairs like this one) and decided it was time to replace the furnace instead of fixing it again.

Dreading the trip back, I took the part back to McElroy's and asked if I could return the part; the receptionist (who was quite nice and polite) checked the part and saw it was sealed, she then took the it in to the office, she came back with the parts manager... (insert sick tummy flip flop here)

He asked why I was returning the part, I answered it was because we'd decided to install a new furnace instead of fixing our current one.
With this, he told me I should try to sell the part on Amazon or eBay because they didn't take any returns on their parts.
I told him that I'd read the return policy posted on their board, and had also asked the front desk before paying for the part if I could return it if we didn't use it.
He said again their policy was to take no parts returns. I told him their written policy said that I could, and asked for my money back.

After a 20-30 second silent staring contest (pretty grade school-ish I know..) he turned to the receptionist, told her to give me my money back; and told her to put me on a ""HOLD LIST"" because they would not be doing business with me anymore, he then walked away, and looked daggers at me from his office till my return transaction was completed.

Least to say, I was disappointed by the whole experience.
It's fine to not sell parts on the weekends, it's not o.k. to lie about someones character as if they were trying to commit a crime just to turn on the heat. I never told the tech on the phone to ""Go to McDonald's"" and happen to pick up the part while he was there, so I can only assume he and the parts manager had a good laugh about that one before I showed up to buy the part on Monday.

It's fine to have a written parts return policy to protect you from receiving back a opened, damaged, or used part; it is not o.k. to lie to someones face about your policy just because you have a chip on your shoulder and want to keep the extra $250 in profits on a part.

I'm happy for you if you've had good experiences with this company, but doubt if you have if you've needed to deal with their parts department or that specific manager.
The rest of the staff was courteous, and I bear the company no ill will, but I will not be using them ever again. Putting me on a ""HOLD LIST"" was unnecessary because if they were the only company in Topeka I'd source my HVAC needs out of Lawrence, Kansas City, Manhattan, or even St. Louis just so I didn't have to play any more McElroy games.
