We are so grateful for their prompt response and service on New Year's Eve. They called me back before they even opened to let me know what time they were coming. They were short staffed and still made the effort to come over first thing. We feel lucky that the service manager(who filled in)came over, because he was able to coordinate us getting a whole new hvac and ac unit installed that same day! If the timing wasn't right, we would've had to wait a few days to be warm again. I highly recommend them and thankful I called them.

Tech told me my igniter needed replacing. I bought a new igniter and hired a different company to install. Second company informed me that that there was nothing wrong with the igniter. Even though McCarthy has promised to reimburse me for the part and the second service call, they have not.

Got a new 1.5 ton HVAC and air handler in my condo. McCarthy was EXCELLENT. Start to finish great sales, customer service, and installation crew. No pressure sales tactics; they gave us a few weeks to consider our options, and didn't bug us to move forward. When we pulled the trigger, the installation crew was respectful, skilled, patient, and did great clean up. I would highly recommend them. They also had a Home Depot financing option 24 months for 0% interest for those so inclined.

After another lengthy discussion, McCarthy's realized and apologized for having forgotten about our previous discussion. Fortunately, I keep good records! For the second time, I spoke with the manager, Earl, who again agreed to send a check for the difference we agreed upon...check arrived yesterday.

Would have been 5 stars if I didn't have to start all over and explain everything again.

AVOID THIS PLUMBER! First, they were an hour late for their promised window of 8 - 9 am arrival, even though we were the first appt. of the day. Arrived at 10 am. No explanation provided.

Then the plumber quoted over $300 for a simple 20 min. replacement of a flusher unit (part that costs about $20-$30) in an otherwise perfectly fine toilet -- OR suggested as an alternative that he could replace the whole toilet for a price of over $700!! The toilet was just running -- no other problems.

Claimed that replacing the flusher mechanism was a ""toilet rebuild"" ---- yeah, right.

We refused and called in a second plumber (Hollin Hall Plumbing) who did the job in 20 minutes and charged $141. Toilet now works great.

McCarthy = unreliable/late, dishonest and totally unreasonable prices (200% higher than what should have been charged). AVOID them!

So honest, so affordable, so prompt, so professional. So NOT what I was expecting in an air conditioning repair company. I will use them again on all my houses in this area. They kept me informed the whole time over the phone and I felt like they were incredibly honest about the problems and solutions. I didn't feel like they were gauging me and I was very happy with the total cost, their guarantee, and their prompt service (they were there exactly when they said they'd be).

On 5/28/14 our air conditioning system at home stopped working, My wife called McCarthy Services. A technician, Phil, came by later on that day. He determined that a capacitor had malfunctioned and that the system was low on gas. He replaced the capacitor and added 3.5 pounds of R-22 gas (per their invoice). The technician spent about two hours at our house. He charged $695 ($365 for the capacitor and $330 for the refrigerant).

I watched while Phil replaced the capacitor and added the gas. The amount charge did not seem to correspond to the materials used or the labor spent. So I went online and researched what the 3.5 pounds of gas and the capacitor are worth. Based on that research, my sense was that its combined cost is around $50.

So, we were charged an hourly rate of $320 for Phil's labor! I thought that was outrageous. I complained to Phil but my wife advised me to take the matter up with Tony, the manager, as Phil does only what he's told. We paid Phil the $695.

I called McCarthy Services and left Tony voice mail twice. He didn't call back. On the third call I spoke with Amanda, explained to her my complaint, and asked her to have Tony call me. He didn't. I called Amanda again, and again she promised to have him call me. A few weeks and five phone calls later, and I'm still unable to make my case to Tony.

We feel we were taken advantage of.

McCarthy showed up on time for an annual AC check, and called beforehand - very professional and punctual. Kevin W. was a great tech - personable, clean, friendly, and very thorough and service oriented. Some recommended services / concerns he pointed out agreed to what another company had said a year ago, so McCarthy weren't just making things up. He didn't push anything - he wrote down the prices, mentioned if the services were critical or not, and proceeded to charge me the agreed coupon price, no hassles. Kevin was very good explaining what he was doing if I had any questions and clearly knows the technology. Very impressed with the service. Their competitors' prices have gone up quite a bit, so McCarthy now represents a much better value.

Like others on this site I would like to leave NO star. We had been doing business with McCarthy Services for the past 10 years and had no problem at all while Dan McCarthy was the owner, however he sold the business a while back (a year, maybe 2?) and we have had very poor service ever since. Have had the same issue with a brand new a/c unit for the past 2 years...they send a different technician each time and will not let you request someone who might actually know what he is doing! Each year it's the same problem...something with the compressor. It's supposedly ""fixed"" and each year when we turn on the a/c around this time of year it blows nothing but hot air. This time it was once again diagnosed as the compressor 3 weeks ago. Were told they would have to order the part. Last week we hadn't heard a word so my husband called on Thurs. and they said the part hadn't come in. So now it's a holiday weekend and it's not an ""emergency"" so no fixing it. He called again today and now they ""can't find the part that was ordered"". He talked to them 4 times today and finally on his last call they miraculously found the part! Can't be installed for 2 more days. When I called them this afternoon to ask why another 2 days (it's 86 degrees in my home!) since we have been on the books 3 weeks I was told that they had other calls that were scheduled.
We are so done with McCarthy Services...I used to be proud to say I used them but we never will again.
