I have been having an ongoing issue with the Freon leaking out of the HVAC unit every year. Each year we pay a McCarthy technician to come to refill the Freon, during this service call we asked the technician to please find the leak and fix it for good. The technician Mauricio arrived late for the appointment and refilled the Freon and stated that he would return in the morning because at this point it was getting very late (8 PM I think). We agreed and the next morning he never showed up so we called McCarthy several times as to the status of the technician and finally we rescheduled for another day. The next appointment Mauricio showed up on time and diagnosed the problem and said that he would run up to the Trane Distributer to see if they had the part and would come right back. He never came back and after several calls to the office and promises that Mauricio would call us back and never did, we rescheduled again for the following week. The following week no technician showed up, no phone call from McCarthy and I had left two voice mail messages for the manager Greg. Two days and several calls later I get transferred to the Call Center manager Amanda who promised that Mauricio would call me back, the next day still no call. I called Amanda back and she got Mauricio on the phone and he stated that he did call me back (he didn't and I didn't receive any voice mail messages) and stated that the part would cost $2,100 plus $180 per hours to install it plus the cost to replace the Freon that I had just paid to get refilled. So I contacted Trane and they stated that the part is still covered under warranty and that I should only pay for the labor (and to refill the Freon that I had just paid to refill. I guess they don't recapture the Freon?). Charging me for a part that is covered under warranty is dishonest and their customer service needs a lot of improvement. I will no longer be using McCarthy Home Services.
Mylo M.McCarthy's schedule management is an absolute dog show - a total mess. I've been trying to get a technician to come back and finish up a repair job and it's been a nightmare of an effort. No technician show up on the date scheduled or the call agents don't schedule the call as we agree on the phone. I scheduled a call out for Sunday between 8am and 12pm on Friday. I call today to confirm that it's still on and today's agent tells me that it's actually scheduled on their system for Monday between 10am and 2pm. This has been happening for the last two weeks. Do yourself a favor - use someone else!!
Stephanie L.McCarthy Services, we are breaking up. After finding you on Angie's List 3 years ago, I thought I had found a trustworthy relationship to handle my equipment needs. After 3 years and 6 service calls, I'm calling it quits.
I purchased a new Carrier system 3 years ago and every times it's serviced, just wait a few months the system breaks down again. The wonderful Senior techs like Kevin W have left the company. The ladies were very kind answering the phone, but they were more concerned with selling me a service contract than finding an appointment to fix my broke unit.
I wish I could I could love you again, but it's over.
I had a spring checkup from them because they had a deal going on. The A/C unit was functioning fine but the guy recommended quite a bit of work. I'm not against preventative maintenance but his prices seemed really high(about $1,500 for all the work he suggested). I decided to get a second opinion from another contractor and he said I didn't even need some of that work McCarthy suggested, like adding freon. He seemed very honest and reasonable with his recommendations and I'll be using that company going forward. Definitely watch out for McCarthy severely overcharging you. They definitely aren't the only contractor who does it though.
I have called McCarthy twice. In both instances they have given me a four-hour window that they will arrive during and I have to be home and wait for them. In both instances, they failed to arrive within the four-hour window, arriving late. They were late for a FOUR-HOUR window. FOUR HOURS. They could not accurately arrive during a FOUR HOUR window. They make you wait for four hours and then they arrive in hour number five. So if you have nothing better to do than sit around and wait for them all day, these are the people to call.
Kathryn M.5/6/16 called McCarthy to come out to our business to look at our wall mounted airconditioner in our computer/lan room which was running but leaking badly. Was initially quoted $79 for the service call via the online chat but when they called me to schedule the actual time to come out that afternoon, they informed me the service call would be $139 for a business. Explained that I was very clear with the online chat person that this is a business. I asked them to just get someone out to my office as soon as possible. The technician arrived and confirmed that we needed a new condensate pump and quoted me $480 for the pump and arranged to come back out on 5/9/16 around 8am to install the new pump. 5/9/16 no show, no call. When I called, they didn't show me on the schedule and put me on hold to find out what was going on. Came back on the line to tell me that Jeremy was out sick and would be out on 5/10 to install the pump. 5/10..Jeremy arrived to install the pump, but now there was no electrical to the system. Had our building engineer come down to try to located a breaker. They didn't have any luck so Jeremy made arrangements to come back out on 5/11 at 8AM to go over the building wiring with the building engineer to see if they could find out where the breaker might be. 5/11 - Jeremy a no show. Around 10:30 another person showed up at our front desk named Greg, who spent 1/2 on the phone with his dispatcher trying to find out why he was called out to our office. My receptionist was told that Jeremy would be out on 5/12 between 8-9am. 5/12 - no call/no show. I called and spoke to customer service again and explained my extreme frustration and told them that I would be out of the office the next day and needed to speak with someone this afternoon before 4pm(5/12) to get a status and find out when Jeremy would be out. They didn't call me back until 7:17pm on 5/12 and said Jeremy would be out 5/13/16 between 8-9am and that the part was in and it would be fixed. 5/13/16 I called early- a little before 8am and explained how angry I was. I told them the day before that I wouldn't be in the office on 5/13.....went over the past several days again with the representative. Arranged for payment if Jeremy was able to fix the unit today. My receptionist called to tell me that Jeremy still hadn't showed and I asked him to call McCarthy. He called McCarthy and was told that they wouldn't be out because the part wasn't in. I then called back to customer service and demanded to know what was going on. Explained that I was told that the part was in and that Jeremy would be in this morning to install and that my receptionist is now being told that the part isn't in. I was told that they had received bad information and that the part wasn't in but that Jeremy would have it on Monday 5/16 and would be out to install in the morning. 5/16/16 - still a no show - called and told that Jeremy was picking up the part and would be in 5/17/16 to install. 5/17/16 - no show....called and told them they needed to have someone out here today. They said they could get him out between 4-6pm. I made arrangements to stay here at the office after 5pm. Still didn't show and when I called about 5:15pm, they said Jeremy wouldn't be able to make it out but would be in tomorrow 5/18 between 8am-9am . 5/18/16 - Jeremy didn't show up until after 10am. He installed a different pump and left the office before I got back from lunch. Left the pink service ticket with my receptionist and told him to tell me that we needed to have an electrician come back out to look into the electrical. The pink service ticket reflected that they installed the new pump and now included a charge for $600 for a circuit board. I called Sheila - quality assurance and at this point I am furious. I explained the whole situation to her and that I didn't know the purpose of the circuit board and was never quoted for the circuit board and that Iwasn't paying for it. I also explained that we are two weeks into this and still the unit isn't working and that the unit was working on the 6th, just leaking. Now...a new pump and the unit doesn't work and demanded they fix it. Sheila acknowledged my concern and stated that a service manager would call me this afternoon. I received a call from Greg (same guy who showed up on 5/11) and I went over everything with him and he assured me that he would investigate and get back to me tomorrow afternoon (5/19). 5/19/16 - no return call from Greg. My building engineer did some investigation for me and had some information for me to share with McCarthy and insisted that they need to fix this. 5/20/16 I called and spoke with Sheila again and explained that I never received a call from Greg and that I have information from the building engineer that needs to be shared. Explained how angry I was. More info to include but I am out of room.
David K.I purchased a new Trane Heating and AC system from Home Depot 7 years ago. McCarthy Services was the Home Depot installer for that system. As part of the cost for that system, McCarthy included the cost for the permit, which is required for such work. I noticed that they did not put up the permit certificate in my window as is usually done. After the install was done, there was no county inspection. I called McCarthy and found that they did not get a permit. I insisted that they get a permit and have the work inspected. They did and the inspector rejected the work. They had to re-work some of what they did and finally it passed inspection. The unit has a 10 year warranty. Recently, the unit stopped heating. I called McCarthy since they were the original installers, and they sent out a technician. I was out of town. The technician looked at the unit and told my wife it was old and needed to be replaced. He gave her a quote for $6000 to replace the indoor heating unit. I told him the unit was only 7 years old and, since I am a home inspector, I can say with confidence that it should last from 15-20 years. He then said that the motor had failed and he would have to refer it to a specialist. The specialist called me and said that the motor was under warranty, but it would cost $700 to install a new one. He said that the install was very complicated so it would be $600 and there was a $100 charge to process the warranty paperwork. I did not think this was totally accurate since the motor only has one connector to connect it to the motherboard and is usually mounted on a slide that allows easy removal. I got on the Trane website and found that McCarthy is no longer a certified Trane installer. I then called one of the companies listed on the Trane site in my area and asked them what they thought. They said that they would have to send out a tech to confirm the problem, but that Trane usually has both parts and labor covered in their warranty. However, if the labor was not covered it would cost me $250 to install a new motor. They then checked with Trane and confirmed that both parts and labor were covered. I had them do the work and it did not cost me a penny.
McCarthy Services clearly knew that Trane covered both parts and labor as they contacted Trane to verify the warranty on the unit. McCarthy Services tried to steal $800 from me. It is clear to me that McCarthy Services was going to collect $800 from me and also get money from Trane for the warranty work.
McCarthy Services is a bunch of thieves and NO ONE SHOULD EVER CALL THEM FOR ANYTHING!
VERY DISHONEST!!!!!
I called them to repair my inoperable air conditioner. They sent a technician, his name is Greg Bogan, to check the system. When he was there, I told him that my air conditioner didn't do cooling, instead it blew hot air to the air vents. I also told him that the problem was caused by a recent power surge that blew up (short) the thermostat or the wiring. He agreed and suggested to help me to replace with a new thermostat, $250 ish. At that moment, I think if he can help me to fix the problem, I am Okay with the $250 repair cost. So, I said yes to him and then, he went outside back to his truck (it seems very normal). A few minutes later, he came back to my house and telling me that he just tested the heat pump outside and found out the freon pressure was very low. So he started telling me it will cost at least $2k to get everything fixed and because the AC is old, you should consider getting a new one from them. So, basically, he is unwilling to do the repair for me and I paid them $85 (inspection fee) for doing nothing at all.
I always like to get a second opinion. Next day, I called another local HVAC service provider for inspection. I asked them to check the freon pressure for me and guess what, the freon pressure is totally fine. OBTW, I was with technician when he was checking the freon pressure. So my conclusion is, McCathy is so dishonest. They know they can make a lot more money by selling you a new air conditioner then helping you to repair.
I don't know why they have 4/5 stars ratings on yelp. I would not recommend to use their services.
Randall D. was professional and thorough with a plumbing inspection of my home. He also noted that the anode rod in my 6 year old water heater had never been replaced. When he removed it, the excessive corrosion was evident. His suggestion to replace the anode undoubtedly will add several years to the life of my water heater.
McCarthy came out to diagnosis my air conditioner problem. They were on time and did the repair. I was advised that I may need a new air conditioner system. The repair tech said that a sales representative would McCarthy about sixty days later and requested a sales agent. No Agent ever contact me. I contacted them four more time to no avail. I recently called them again and they finally agreed to come out. A day later they called and told me that the re-check of the coolant pressure was going to cost me a new service charge. Further, that no sales agent would come out until the service charge appointment was finalized. I told them not to come and have there owner/manager call me to discuss this matter. That was over three weeks ago and no contact was ever made or attempted by McCarthy's. This whole scenario reminds me or a bait and switch operation. They got my money and all the promises or inducements were just forgotten.
