rip off-do not use them-needed a new water heater and the tech came out and told us it was broken which i already knew and charged us 200 dollars-rheem told us we should not have been charged for the initial visit or for the replacement work-maxfield refused to return my money and was going to charge for the installation.then advised us that our home heaters were out of date and should be replaced and we should go with a tankless water heater-total cost 38,000 dollars-this company should spend more time training their employess about customer care and not upselling-

Steve Crain was 5 star excellent at solving our problem with the furnace that would turn on and off. He made the diagnosis from the story before we got the furnace opened. He cleaned off the carbonized element and checked our other furnace and cleaned it off also. He made sure to examine elsewhere and found a bearing that was going. Careful explanations and work. We had to replace a boiler just as it was getting pretty cold. Matt and his crew worked a couple of long days to get it done. They wore masks and called to let us know when they would arrive in the mornings. They left the area clean and explained the system before they left.

Not sure if all plumbing companies hire dishonest people but these guys do. I needed a licensed plumber on a commercial job so I called them in. Very simple job, he wasted several minutes telling us how difficult the job was, made it obvious that the job was more than simple. Didn't have the correct tools said he'd go buy it but would add it to our bill. Quoted us a price that was $110.00 higher than we bought it for a local hardware store. We went and purchased our $130.00 tool for $18.00, used it while he was sitting in his van, then asked him to come and finish the job. Charged us full price for the repair. Bottom line, he didn't add any value to the repair.

We have had Maxfield visit our house several times to help us with our automated lawn irrigation system, specifically with broke valves in our boxes. They were very prompt and usually had the valve excavated and replaced in less than two hours. The price was fair and there were no problem with the work meaning is has worked fine for years. We recommend their work.

As a resident in Holladay, with a home built in the 1950's, I came to rely upon Maxfield's Plumbing store to know exactly what I needed without spending hours in a Home Depot only to find I had the wrong parts. Because if that reputation I contacted them to do several tasks I needed done. The estimate was much larger then I expected, but I was fine with that because I knew they would do quality work. To my surprise when the work was to be done it was 95% outsourced. The contracted group did a much better job then the 5% done by the actual Maxfield employee.

Maxfield's has become middlemen. I don't recommend them.

I was stupid, I didn't do my homework and I deserved what I got, but please do not make the mistake I did. I'm banking on karma points that this will save you. I paid $460 dollars to have a sprinkler valve replaced and it broke 11 days later with water spewing. Called for an ""24/7 emergency"" per their website to fix their error and they couldn't find a repair person in the early mid day (noonish maybe 1:30pm) to fix their mistake. That was the short story, here are the details if you care to continue.

As with another review, I am an absentee owner with wonderful tenants that I like to keep happy. Got an email that the sprinklers were leaking and suspected the valves were bad. No big deal, yank it out and replace it but since I'm not there I need to pay someone. I still figure how much could someone really charge to replace a valve?! I call Maxfield that also goes by ""At your Service"" and ""Design Comfort"" which I hadn't known at first but should have gone with my gut and ran (I already said I was stupid so leave it be).

I spoke with the scheduling lady who seemed nice enough but wanted my credit card before anything was actually done or even looked at. She said they could have someone out the next day at noon but needed someone at the house which I had to arrange and said I would call back. They also made me give them my work number when I was clear that they should call me at home. Got a call the next day AT WORK saying the plumber was ready and acted like I somehow messed it up, reminded them I still had to have the renter be the contact. Was also quoted $79 for the trip fee but it would assumed in the total cost if I went with them, which seemed reasonable because AGAIN, it was just a valve.

Dustin called back to say the valve needed to be replaced (really?! no kidding) and they don't make that type anymore so he would need to dig down about 6 inches to rig the pipe. The cost $460!!!!! I asked how much the part was and he said about $50 so I said well how long would it take sine $410 seemed a lot for labor to change A VALVE, he said it would take about 30 minutes to an hour. I asked if that seemed reasonable to him, which he replied that it did seem reasonable and just like car mechanics there are national averages of the cost or the repair and this apparently was the national average to repair a SPRINKLER VALVE. Dustin went on to say that he was a licensed plumber and wasn't some inexperienced ""sprinkler repair guy"" and they had been business for blah blah blah as a reputable company. You and I my friends obviously chose the wrong career!

Going back to my previous stupid and I got what I deserved comment, I continue with the work because I'm already into this for $79 bucks and I need to get it fixed. I pay the blood money and figure it was an expensive life lesson never to be repeated. The life lessons comment really does't make me feel better but I figure I can try, right?!

Fast forward 11 DAYS, yes 11 and get a message from my tenant that water is spewing from the recently replaced $460 gold and diamond plated valve (I made up the gold and diamond part). I call the maxfieldatyourservicedesigncomfort 24/7 emergency line and explain that water is spewing but the tenants turned off the water to stop it. The lady says she'll call me back when she finds someone to come fix it. I get call back about an hour later that she can't find anyone and will keep looking. no call back AT ALL. The next day I get an email (no phone call, no apology, no explanation and most interestingly no requirement this time to have someone at the house). The ticket says replace cracked valve, the same $460 valve that was replaced 11 days earlier by a reputable and experienced licensed plumber.

This place is banking (literally) on stupid, which I was, so please take my advice and look around first and get some quotes.

I chose Maxfield based on some of the reviews here. Suffice it to say that my experience was in stark contrast to the other glowing reviews.

My experience was exactly what you don't want with a plumber... Terrible scheduling problems and out-of-this-world prices.

They missed my first appointment. In their defense, all of their workers were (supposedly) at another emergency job. Unfortunately, I didn't find this out until taking off work, waiting past my appointment time, and then having to call them. They claimed that they had called my office, but I get email notifications of missed calls. Either they dialed the wrong number or were blowing smoke.

At the re-scheduled appointment, they scheduled me for the wrong time slot. Again, I had to call in order to get this mistake clarified.

I finally had one of their guys come out to look at the sprinkler problem, and I was given a quote that was roughly three times what anyone else in town quoted ($3k instead of roughly $1k). I don't know if he just didn't want to do the job or if he thought that he could get away with gouging me.

We'll be going elsewhere, which is too bad since their location is convenient. If the owners of Maxfield happen to be reading this, I'd highly recommend that you rectify the problems with your dispatch/scheduling and outrageous estimates. You lost business because of them.

Overpriced. They did a good job but honestly they were here for 1hr and with tax charge was 331 bucks. I couldnt understand why they charged so much. When I asked they said it is because of the 5 yr part warranty they include and insurance etc. The part the really upset me was I had already dug out most of the problem and had parts there that they used and still the charge was 331.00 for 1hr. I would not go this route again as I feel others would charge half as much. Expensive services.

I am very impressed by Maxfield Plumbing. I am an absentee owner of a house in Salt Lake who had to rely on strangers. I was referred to Maxfield from a sprinkler repair person who had no time to help me with a sprinkler system repair.

The house had been running up expensive water bills so I was expecting the worst. Maxfield sent a great plumber who fixed all of the leaking and broken sprinkler heads, adjusted everything for maximum performance, and checked the water meter to insure that there was not a major leak. They saved the day. Thank you so much!
