Our company has been serving the community for over a century. Allow our knowledgeable and respectful team to diagnose and resolve your plumbing, heating, and air conditioning issues.
Max Schoenwalder Sr. established Max Sr. & Paul Schoenwalder in Newark in 1912. In 1919, Max relocated his family and business to Union, NJ. Union was still developing then, with dirt roads, no water service, and no street lighting. He became a well-known community leader in Union. His public service included nine years on the township committee and a term as mayor from 1932-1933. The company was passed to his son, Paul Schoenwalder Sr., after 1968. Paul Sr., a World War II veteran, ran the company until his retirement in 1982. Paul Schoenwalder Jr. inherited the company next. Paul Jr. engaged with the Union Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, and other civic groups. In 2007, Gayle and Karl, family members, continued the company’s legacy. They have maintained the family traditions and values started by Max Schoenwalder Sr. in 1912.
Gayle has been with the business since 1982 and is the current Treasurer. Karl joined in 1994 and is now the President of the corporation. Both Gayle and Karl hold New Jersey State Master Plumber and HVACR licenses.

Nelson M.Another great service call - this time replacing three (3) steam radiator valves that hadn't been worked on in over 40 years. Lou did a fantastic job working through a very challenging repair.
Emma M.A very nice technician came to our house to fix a broken hose faucet, but left a rather unsightly burn on our siding and melted metal dripping down the siding as well from where the faucet was soldered on (I assume.) My husband forgot to mention we needed the electrical outlet checked that was directly next the faucet on the outside of the house. The tech didn't even attempt to help us with it, even check it with a voltage meter, because it was not on the original job order. This is understandable since he has other jobs to get to, but frustrating after seeing the damage.
He was very friendly and quick, which was appreciated, but for over $200, I would have liked him to not leave it looking worse than it did before. We have had really good experiences with them in the past, but this job wasn't their best
The receptionist, who claimed to be an owner, was extremely rude for no reason at all. Do businesses not realize they have everything to lose by being nasty to the public when they call? I feel bad for people like this, being this age and not knowing or caring about manners. This is exactly why you lost the opportunity to work for us.
Jon N.Disgraceful service. Called plumber to fix job which was attempted but unfortunately not withstanding. Paid hefty fee for this. Next he came again and left with issue still unresolved. We paid again (now twice for same job) and very next day base board started leaking. I speak to 'manager Karl' and explain resentment at paying a 2nd time with issue still unresolved. Karl not accommodating and tells me ""I have to pay my guy"". He agreed to provide me with a credit when plumber returns to fix. So 3rd time lucky and now I need issue fixed ASAP as winter storms coming. Office tells me engineer has job first thing but would be with me around midday. I wait around all day and at 5pm he still hasn't showed. I call office and Karl isn't around (funny that) as i want to share my frustration with him once again. I'm offered no assurances that the plumber can come tomorrow at a nominated time, even after i explain I'd needed to use a vacation day today and was disgruntled following previous back and forth. What a terrible way to treat a valued customer. I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for plumbing and heating needs as this company doesn't deserve your money. By the way Stan (our regular plumber at M&P) is great, just a shame those around him aren't. 1 less customer.
Jocelyn H.From start to finish, I had a really great experience with M&P. I prefer to use a local company, these guys are a mom and pop operation with a good crew. The prices were reasonable, the work is quality. My tech had a pretty good season of humor too, always nice to feel comfortable with someone working in your house. I will definitely use them again. Thanks for coming out today!
Great service and responsive to our problem! Will use again!! Solved our issue same day! Was nice to take a shower again!
