If I could give Martin Plumbing less than a star, I would. We have always used them to service our boiler in the past, as well as do other plumbing. We had never had any problems before. Had to call them last week when our boiler overflowed, getting water throughout the system to leak from almost every radiator, none of which was Martin's fault. We had drained the system before their plumber arrived. Because we had done that to get the water out of the pipes and stop all the water cascading through every room in the house, the valve that caused the problem seemed to be working. The valve is old. The plumber (a new guy to us) came out, pronounced the problem was gone without really checking the valve carefully, or assessing it's age or anything. He decided sediment must of been the problem even through we told him we had flushed water out of the system about 2 weeks ago. He said its probably fine and we should flush water more often. We asked is something wrong with the valve and he said no since it seemed to be working fine now. We asked if this could happen again and were told no, very unlikely since it seemed to be working again without his having done anything. He did some work on another pipe at our request. No problems while he was here but less than a week later the whole thing happened again causing much more extensive damage in the house. When we called Martin, got same guy on phone who didn't take any responsibility since ""it was fine while I was there and during the time I did the other work"". Also told us despite the fact we had to shut the boiler down and have no heat while it's 29 degrees outside that it would take 5 days for him to return because of his schedule. The new part would be $300 plus labor. We got a new plumber here who was able to see exactly what was going wrong with the valve immediately. As i sit here in freezing cold house, I can tell you that I am extremely unhappy with Martin Plumbing. I do not feel that their response was adequate at all, especially in light of the return of the original issue and the additional damage to my house.

Our Coop has used Martin a number of times and we have been very happy with the service provided. Customer services has responded promptly and when there is an emergency they have expedited a plumber to our building. We have also found the cost reasonable and the repair people friendly and knowledgeable. In our case, Martin has been the way to go and we will continue to use them.

Only bad experiences with Martin Plumbing. Did a terrible installation of a new water heater--advised me on the wrong size so it doesn't efficiently heat my apartment. Heater breaks down annually because according to Leon, pipes need to be drained before the heating season starts. Why he didn't tell me that when he first installed--well, probably because it costs me over $300 each year for him and his incompetent staff to come and drain the pipes. Completely took advantage of my lack of knowledge about plumbing. I trusted Leon and trust was totally misplaced.

Very unprofessional, very rude, but beyond that, really bad service. And completely overpriced. Take your business to Donato's or B&D.

Not particularly competent. They have wrong information and were unable to identify obvious problems. Had a leak coming through the ceiling in the basement that was obviously coming from the upstairs bathroom. The plumber said he couldn't find any problems. I also asked about our basement flooding and he said it was overflow rain water from the city and there was nothing to do. I got a second opinion plumber who found the problem with the first floor bathroom and fixed the leak. He also figured out that our sewer pipe was broken and that was causing the basement flooding. I think martin can handle and easy job like snaking a drain, but if you require anything more complicated than that, don't use them. They are unable to diagnose or problem solve any issue that requires more than one step.

Called these guys on a Saturday and left a msg about my water main being frozen. I left a msg and was called back within 15 minutes. The person who returned my call (forgot his name) listened to me explain what the issue was and walked me through some trouble shooting steps. When it was clear to him that indeed my problem was a frozen water main he gave me some advice.

He said that it would cost $275 for them to come and look at it, but basically there was nothing he could do that I had not already tried and he told me as much. Then he suggested what I should do next to fix the issue.

I was not charged a dime and was listened to and given professional advice in an unhurried manner. You don't get that often enough these days. Next time I need a plumber I will certainly think of Martin Plumbing.

A couple of weeks ago we noticed water leaking through our grout when the upstairs shower was on. The first few people who came did not accurately ""diagnose"" the problem or solve it-though we were charged anyway.

I finally called Martin Plumbing and Nuquay came the same day I called, took his time figuring out source of problem, found it and fixed it! I was sure they would have to break through walls and charges hundreds of dollars. But it turned out to be a relatively simple adjustment of a fixture and ended up costing $150 (though he was here for an hour). I had so prepared myself for a long and costly job that I was happily shocked.

Nuquay was incredibly capable, personable and professional. He also made sure to clean up after he finished the job. I could not be more happy with Martin Plumbing.

I've used Martin Plumbing and Heating three times now, and with excellent results. They are not ""cheap"" but their prices seem fair for the quality of work they do. Here were three different jobs:

Job 1: Linkage under sink dripped. I tried to fix it, but once I got one sealed right another one leaked. Martin came over and came up from the truck with any necessary parts. They rebuilt it, and it was rock solid for years. They were professional and courteous and knew exactly what they were doing.

Job 2: Drain backup between two bathrooms. Not only would the water not drain, but it would fill the opposite sink in the other bathroom as well. They snaked it (and had to go really deep) and pulled out a whole cat's worth of hair. Again, fast, efficient, effective.

Job 3: Biggest job ever was to replace all the radiator valves. The old ones leaked and we were about to redo the floors. Not only did they offer two types of valves, but they took the time to explain each and why the existing valves didn't last. They took the time to make sure the radiators were properly drained in the entire apartment line. They tested everything before they left.

You might find cheaper, but I don't think you'll find better. I'm practically looking forward to Job #4.

Professional and punctual, but overpriced. Replacing 2 seats and 2 washers on a shower-body, $225 (job done in 30 mins).

Edited 02/22/2013 - Another example of their expensive fees: electrically clearing some draining stoppage: $375. If you're not in an emergency I would definitely suggest to shop around.

Martin Plumbing has done several jobs for me over the years. they have never been cheap but they have done competent work. my last experience with them, however, is my last. the work got done but took several return trips to properly complete the installation. they also suggested additional work that, upon checking with another plumber, was totally unwarranted. beware!

I have unfortunately worked with Martin on two projects now and I will never make the same mistake again. I used them for an emergency leak and they installed the wrong part on my toilet which eventually meant that I had to completely replace the toilet. Because the project had already been started with them I used them for the replacement which was so poorly done that I am going to need to retile the floor. I was forced to use them again when I was trapped out of town months later and my downstairs neighbor complained of some evidence of water coming through her ceiling. The details are long and arduous but it was reported that there were no leaking pipes in my apartment and I thought the matter was over. In fact a potential issue was discovered but noone followed up with me about a potential problem they identified. In the end a $5 problem is going to cost me thousands. I called to discuss the matter but was told that they had informed me of the potential issue in the bill they sent me. Water issues need to be handled right away. Any plumber that thinks noting problems at the bottom of bills mailed out is suspect. This company has terrible customer service, no follow through and the work that they did for me had to be fixed at a higher cost. Avoid them at all costs.
