Since 1926, our family has been at the helm of this plumbing business, beginning with my great-grandfather. The business transitioned from my great-grandfather to my grandfather, Jake the Plumber, and then to my father, Jim Martel Sr. Our family name has been a trusted presence in the Providence and Blackstone Valley for four generations.
We are committed to neat and professional service without breaking the bank. We ensure that our technicians are licensed and have passed drug tests. Most of our customers come back, making it easy to provide references.
I am a fourth-generation master plumber, raised in Central Falls and a proud Lincoln High graduate. I share my life with my wife, Jessica, and together we have two wonderful children. My philosophy is to treat others how I want to be treated, and I aim to assist those who truly need it.

clean transaction-came when they said-work clean and professional-highly recommend-wish all workmen were of the same calibre
Ryan H.In August 2020 I tried to hire this company to install a 1/2 bath and to replace some old cast iron plumbing. The president Ed was a really nice guy, who came out and explained all of our options. We agreed on a plan and waited. After waiting patiently for four months, I called and emailed asking if they really wanted the work. Ed came and took some more notes on our project and assured me that they wanted the work and sent me an estimate which I agreed to. I was told they would come ""after Christmas"". Two more months passed and we heard nothing...no calls, no emails, no communication. In the end, I sought out another plumber who started work within a month and was done within two weeks. I paid much less than I would have with Martel Plumbing. Still, I'm very disappointed that the work was never done by them. When you are relying on someone and they just never show up its very frustrating. They seemed to be a good company...but whatever the reason I was left in the lurch.
Liz R.Great service! We were having an issue with our heating unit, I called Martel and they were able to come out the same day(there was a cancellation, this might not happen in every situation). The technician, Roy, fixed the problem quickly and I felt reasonably as well. This was done at a home that is currently rented. My renters were very happy and I was relieved and happy! Thank you Roy for the great service!!
Nothing but great things to say about Martel. Jim showed up on time and had a proposal and estimate for me by the end of the day. The work done included replacing the entire waste stack and the old copper pipes that had turned green. The junction where the cast iron pipe met the basement wall was rotted, so that involved punching through that wall, digging a small trench and reconnecting a better pipe to the sewer (leaving me with an clean out as well). It was a huge job, a day and a half for 3 guys. I sent Jim about 3 emails with lists of questions for him before scheduling the job. He answered promptly and professionally for each one. The price was reasonable!
His crew showed up on time for both days, did all the work that was expected and as promised. They left my basement cleaner than it was before the job. They had drop cloth spread out from front door to the basement to protect the hardwood floors. The job included removing my toilet to replace the flange and before they put it back, they washed the floor.
I'll hire his crew in a minute when my oil furnace needs to be replaced.
We recently contracted with Martel Plumbing & Heating for the installation of a COMBI-Boiler install.
The two techs arrived were professional, personable and worked diligently throughout the day. The final install is a work of art and we were taken aback at how good it looked.
Jim, can't say how pleased we are with the final product. Really appreciate you checking in and insuring everything was ok.
Thank you.....
Jim Martel helped source some parts for a toilet with issues and he was very helpful with that, and then they scheduled an appointment and two professional techs took care of the issue in 15 minutes. Excellent experience. Sorry about my Dad calling in to request the old parts back he's senile and couldn't be talked out of it, I was mortified.
The knocking sound returned, and the WiFi module died on my Mini split. I called Martel. They were as wonderful as they were the first time. The new module had to be ordered, which they took care of, and the hunt for the knocking took a few visits, since it would only happen the first time I used the washer. Each time we thought it was fixed, it wasn't. Finally Jim, the owner of the business came over. He listened to the knocking, and, after all the other previous tries, added some new gadgets to the pipes leading to my washer. He said the words that I didn't want to hear, which were that ""if this didn't work, it's your washer."" Ugh. He said not to worry who knew someone who could fix it if this last attempt failed. So, fingers crossed, I did my first load of laundry a couple of days later. Yes, DAYS later. I wasn't feeling well, and, quite honestly, I wasn't anxious to try it, fearing I'd hear the knocking, again. Hallelujah! There was NO knocking! They also got the new WiFi module and set up a time to reinstall it. I'm extremely happy to say that everything is working fine now. The shower is still hot. The water pressure, which they had lowered when trying to stop the banging pipes, was back to normal, and my mini splits are both WiFi working. Martel stuck with me through it all, never complaining, and never charging me for the added visits. All of the guys were terrific, as was their office ""girl."" They are a terrific company. I will definitely use them again for all my plumbing needs! Thanks especially to Carl and Jim! Great job, guys!
Brett J.A couple months back Jim and his crew installed a tankless hot water heater, new gas furnace, a new air conditioning unit, removed the old oil tank and furnace, and ran new gas line through the basement. Aside from the new equipment that is now very neatly installed you would have never known they were ever here.
When we had a small issue with the furnace the day after it was installed we messaged Jim and he sent his guy out that day and it was fixed right away with no extra charge. Haven't had a problem since.
Would be glad to hire these guys again in the future and have been recommending them to anyone who may need work done.
My boyfriend and I are first time home owners and have living in our home for about a year. The number one thing we wanted to do when we got into this house was change our heating system. When we moved in we had a oil tank that was more than 20 years old and needed to be replaced or removed.
Jim and his crew were awesome from beginning to end. They were clean, polite, and trustworthy. We were converting from oil to gas with baseboards. They removed our huge oil tank, installed all new plumbing, installed baseboards, a new boiler, a hot water tank, etc. Their soldering work looks so good that my dad was so impressed he wants to hire them to do his house now! Considering what we had as a set up in our basement before to what we have now is a huge difference and we couldn't be more thankful to the crew.
Jim, Kyle and the rest of the crew were very helpful and were always there to answer any questions or concerns we had every step of the way. Whether it was a phone call or text at 8pm, Jim was there to answer.
Friar D.Unfortunately, my oil burner blew out recently, but fortunately after researching a few companies I found Martel Plumbing & Heating. I obtained 4 estimates from companies and Martel was easily the best company to work with. Let's face it, unless you are in the field, we do not know much about these systems.
I'll be honest I was first intrigued by Martel because of how many years they have been in business (1926). You must be doing something right to be in business that long. I met with owner Jim Martel for an estimate and he couldn't have been more accommodating with his time and knowledge. He really made a pretty chaotic situation very calming. He explained what system I had, what had happened to cause the blowout, then went into options for a replacement units. I wanted to expand from a direct oiler burner system that heats both the house and the water to an oil burner for the heat and a separate water tank for hot water. Again, there was Jim expertly explaining all the options available from direct to indirect oil burner systems and hybrid and non-hybrid water tank systems.
Jim emailed all the different estimates we talked about, which was different than the other companies who in one case sent them via text. There is no pressure with the Martel Plumbing & Heating. I can be a pain in ass with questions, but with Jim he never pressured and answered every single question. When I needed to email Jessica, who is Jim's wife and handles all the office work, she got back to me within the half-hour. That's professional and accountable!
Just like Jim, his employees are highly professional and knowledgeable, they came in set up shop, completed the job in one day and took the time to explain the machines after the install. They asked very little of me and during the install, you could hear them laughing and telling stories while working, which is important because they all get obviously get along great. I include pictures here and before I insulate the pipes, I wanted you to see the attention to detail.
I also needed an electrician for the job and Jim set that up too. The company was STEM Electric and the owner Tim Moisao and his employees were equally as great as Martel Plumbing & Heating. I had to upgrade my panel from 100W to 200W and they handled it with ease. The only thing they asked from me was to put their drinks in the refrigerator (it was 90 plus that day and had to go in the attic), which was my pleasure to help them with. I now have a go-to electrician as well thanks to Jim.
The folks from Martel Plumbing & Heating are professionals, who create copper works of art. They were NOT the most expensive and to give you a comparison I installed an oil burner and an 80-gallon hybrid water tank for the same price I got quoted from another company who would have installed an oil burner and a smaller non-hybrid water tank. I feel like I received the most valve for the dollars spent in comparison to the other companies.
In the end, if you are looking for a top-notch company at competitive prices who does amazing work, Martel Plumbing and Heating is the company you should absolutely do business with! They even have a great website that is good looking and clean.
Thanks again Jim, Jessica, Tim, and both crews!!
