Recommended Customer Reviews

Great people to work with. Customer service was spot on, polite and professional from the first call. Mario performed the work I needed and was also straight forward and professional. Great company and will recommend to others. Thanks Cartwright's!

Bottom line: call someone else.
I have had appointments changed twice so far without any notification from Cartwrights. The first time, I was given a 2 hour window and about an hour into it, I called the office and was told that he was running ""a little"" late and would still be showing up. 2 hours later, nothing. I called again and was told that I had already been contacted to reschedule for another day (an event which did not happen!).
Now the second time, I don't wait so long to call the office. And suddenly my appointment changed to tomorrow! The very sarcastic answer I just received from the ""dispatcher"" included that I should have written down the name of the person who scheduled the appointment, but since I did not - too bad. They may provide ok service if they actually show up, but beware - I wouldn't waste the time.

An external part on my boiler sprung a leak late one night and I called the typical lazy New Mexican plumber who had installed it expecting him to care about his work and a previous customer. ( see review of Eddie's Plumbing and Heating ) Two days later and multiple blowoffs later by him, I called Cartwright's and they sent a very professional but overworked young man out after hours. He took care of the most apparent problem but in his haste to leave after 9pm, never fully pressure tested the system for any other leaks. That call cost almost $500.00 and including travel time to and from Santa Fe took three hours. A new 2 gal. pressure tank which costs $23.50 RETAIL cost us over $100.00 on the invoice.
It took me a about a week to notice that the big wet spot behind the boiler wasn't drying up like it should have given the repairs done. After working a 12 hour day, I went to check out the mechanical room for safe measure on Thursday night, and there was an inch of water everywhere. Something had failed big time.
I called Cartwright's first thing Friday morning and got on the schedule for between 11am and 1pm. At 1:15pm the tech shows up in a button down white shirt and tie and he immediately starts castigating me for taking the boiler cover and insulation off. I thought I was doing him a favor and expediting things so he could better see the possible cause of the problem, which I found in about 30 seconds once the cover was off. He also started trying to talk me out of doing anything given the risk of breaking off the leaky pipe I had exposed. I explained that I had called his company because I assumed they would have the expertise, tools and experience to remove a 6"" piece of threaded black iron pipe and replace it.
He took some kind of offense at me stating such an obvious fact and simply turned around and left. I called the dispatcher and she assured me that someone else would be coming, which never happened. At 8pm, the on call plumber called wanting to know what happened to my call, and I told him that I didn't know why the other tech didn't show up, was exhausted and we'd have to deal with the next day. At 8:30pm a manager called realizing someone had dropped the ball and offered to send someone out first thing this morning at regular rates.
This morning came and went and no call, no plumber, so I kept spraying bolt lubricant on the pipe joint, held my wife's blow dryer on it for about ten minutes and tapped it a few times with a hammer to hopefully help free it.
The very first good yank I applied to my pipe wrench loosened it, I removed it and went to my local True Value for the replacement pipe. $7.00 later and less than an hour to re-assemble and the leak is gone, the heat is back on and Cartwright's Plumbing will never step foot on my property again.
Do not be fooled by a company's size or long history.

Cartwright's seems to have some internal communication/scheduling problems, which could be improved. Missing an appointment that was scheduled over a week in advance is a no-no. It's a grand waste of the customer's time. Also, they really ticked me off by not honoring a coupon they had sent me (see details below before making a judgment).
While I like the plumber they sent, and thought he did good work, Cartwright as a company has some problems (realistically most companies do). We had them replace a valve under the kitchen sink, fix a leak in the utility room and bring the water heater connections up to code. Problems: We had an appointment for the plumber to return after doing a temporary fix so he could complete the utility room work. Well, he didn't show for the appointment, even though I re-confirmed that appointment at the crack of dawn the day he was to come. When I called to find out why he did not show up it was explained to me that someone had called and cancelled the appointment. Well that is a mystery because only I would have cancelled the appointment, and I didn't! So that is frustrating when you set time aside to accommodate a plumber and they don't show up. We rescheduled for the next day and this time he showed up on time as planned.
After the plumber completed the work I paid him and after he left I realized that I had a coupon Cartwright's had sent me for $25 dollars off saying I was a valued customer or something like that. (Actually I had two coupons they had sent me for $25 dollars off). So I called Cartwright's and explained that I had forgotten to give the plumber my coupon, but that I would like them to honor it by issuing a check and sending it to me. They absolutely would not do it. I got nothing but excuses why it couldn't be done, which was nothing but a bunch of BS. They just didn't want to be bothered. The only thing they said they could do was accept the coupon at the next service. At that point I did not feel like a valued customer.
Then just a few days ago my mother-in-law's kitchen sink drain became clogged. I tried to solve the problem but simply didn't have the right tools. This happened on a Friday evening. So I called Cartwright's around 7 PM to see if they could make an emergency visit and I got their answering service because it was after hours. I was informed that someone from Cartwright's would call me that evening to discuss timing and pricing, but no one called. So the next morning (Saturday) I called Cartwright's again to find out why no one called and again got the answering service. A few minutes later a woman from Cartwright's finally did call. She could not explain why it took an extra call on my part and over 12 hours after I first left word ( even though they offer emergency service) for her to call me. We discussed price, which was expensive due to Saturday being considered an ""overtime"" day so plumbers get paid time + 1/2. Then she informed me to make a quick decision because any new appointment would already be 5 hours out in the future. We hung up.
Immediately thereafter my wife did some research and found a plumber to come out sooner than Cartwright's and whose rate ended up saving us about 20%. Plus we really like him and he seemed genuinely interested in getting our repeat business, and he was the owner of the company willing to come out on a Saturday.
Rather than call Cartwright's next time we will call the new guy.

BAD REVIEW, my little son called them to look at air, he knew what was wrong with it but just needed a part, they came out and charged $75.00 to tell him what he already knew, if they would have been up front and said they were charging $75.00 just to come out he would have said never mind, I tried to talk to the owner, who tried to talk much faster and louder than me, so I just said thanks, but it was very wrong,,,young people have a hard enough time trying to make it without this kind of busines

These guys did a good job clearing my drain but the girl in the office was rude and nasty. I won't do business with them again.

This is a late review (2011), so things may have improved ... We had a heater fan problem and had a tech come out. The tech (contracted with Cartwright's, I don't think an actual employee) obviously knew his HVAC stuff backwards and forwards, but nickeled and dimed us on top of the crazy expensive service call (as noted by others). I watched the whole thing and got a play-by-play of each of his steps. He used a squirt of oil, and for that he charged us $25 for materials. Shady, to say the least.

Awesome customer service! Thank you Jason for repairing my furnace! Prompt service, courteous and overall a very positive experience.

My heat went down two weeks ago, and Cartwrights sent the same technician four times. Twice he did not have the right parts, once he installed a pump that was not the cause problem, the forth time he was here for four hours, took out the pump he installed, welding and pipe fitting. After all that I still had no heat. He left for an hour in the middle of it and charged me for the time. Almost two weeks later I called another plumber and the problem was fixed in 2 hours.

I agree 100% with Alexis's review. I had an old boiler that was unfixable and one tech sold me on a tankless boiler system. I paid a LOT of money, was installed and never worked properly. Wasn't getting hot water and heat not working. Tech came back once to set temps and still had probs. We continued to call same tech and he disappeared on a family emergency never to be heard from. Called manager. He sent out new tech to investigate. Looked at house, said he Wouk go back and perform heat loss calculation and would Get back to us. Tech never called. We called manager and sure enough, system was way undersized for house. Also, upon further inspection, first tech failed to replace multiple components associated, which was part of proposal. Another 1.5 weeks lapsed (still no working heat) and new unit gets put in.
Still having problems with one zone not working at all. Tech came out first time and troubleshot wrong zone, which I figured out after he left. Came out again and tried to BS me. At this point, I don't trust or believe anyone in this company. Alexis is right. They lie and the techs appear to be totally incompetent. Still going on 8 weeks of this fiasco and I still don't have a fully functional heating system.
Maybe they are reliable on simple jobs but stay clear with complex work.
