In 1920, Vearl Manwill loaded his horse and wagon with tools, carbide lights, and pipes to embark on a journey that brought him to many farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His shop was a complete hardware store that sold washers, dryers, and even jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. Though the television only displayed black and white images, it became the talk of the town and brought in large numbers of people. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to concentrate on what he excelled at—plumbing and heating supplies. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim was raised in the family business engaging in tasks from trench digging to plumbing new homes, executing repairs, and selling HVAC products. Jim now manages a workforce of more than 40 qualified service technicians dedicated to providing outstanding customer service, dependable products, and high-quality workmanship. Jim earned the ""Circle of Excellence"" recognition. Recent awards feature ""Best of State"" for the years 2011 through 2015 and the Angie's List Super Service Award for the years 2008 to 2015.

Also part of the team is Jim's nephew, Brian Jackson, a fourth-generation member. Brian has worked full-time since 1994. He currently serves as the general manager and oversees daily operations. Manwill Plumbing and Heating anticipates a bright future and is preparing to maintain its leadership position.

Not cool. Was quoted a $49 service fee to check my AC. Ended up charging me $115 and didn't do ANY repair. They were going to come back another day (5 days later) to do the actual work. Buyer beware! Service fees are HIGH!!!

I would never use this company again and I highly recommend that anyone else steer clear from Manwill. This company does not prioritize the customer. They just try to get as much money out of you as they can. A technician came out when we originally called about our A/C not working, and he refused to go down into our crawl space (which is where the furnace, etc are located). Because of that, he was unable to correctly diagnose the problem. He claimed he was ""too old"" to go into the crawl space. Regardless, he believed he fixed the problem and left. Later that day our A/C stopped working, again. We called Manwill and requested they come back but it was another three (very hot) days before they could make it. The next technician came out and was actually willing to go in the crawl space. Turns out that is where the problem originated and he was able to fix it very quickly (thanks!). I called the company to let them know about the previous technician's error (and quite simply, his incompetence) and they were not willing to refund us for the original visit. Manwill hires incompetent technicians with little to no work ethic. Needless to say, they don't deserve my business ever again, or yours.

Something has changed with this company and they have gone downhill. Please be careful if you have a rental. I have been using Manwill for over a decade. However, over the last few years I have not been happy with their service.

For example, the tenants called them for a clogged kitchen sink. The plumber went in the process broke the P-trap and had to come back the next day. Manwill charged for both visits. Not once through this process they called me. They only contact me when they wanted me to pay the bill. On the description it indicated that the piping was a plugged because it was old. Yeah right. Obviously whatever was plugging the pipe was caused by the renters. I can understand the 1.5"" pipe breaking for being old but not clogged because of age. Who are we kidding. The tenants had a similar compliant earlier in the year with the dishwasher. Fortunately, I sent Sears and they found a rag clogging the dishwasher drain. I'm glad I did not call Manwill for that service.

Response to 7/13 comment: The limit of $250 was established by me after the fact. I had called twice to inform them that I wanted to be in the loop. At that time we established the limit

UPDATE:
I was contacted in person by Manwill and they did apologize for the miscommunication between the staff. They did give us a partial refund on the cost of the service that reflected earlier expectations and grateful they wanted to make things right. I have updated my rating to reflect our satisfaction with their customer service and work well done.

I initially contacted Manwill over the weekend through Yelp and had a few exchanges with Jim and he said he could contact me Monday when he knew the schedule. I didn't hear back so I called him Wednesday and after being on hold for 8 minutes and having the receptionist put me back on hold 3 times, I set up a consult for Friday morning.

Well i'm slightly disappointed in our customer experience, while the work they did today fixed our problem, I didn't expect that they would actually do the work today. I was told over the phone someone would come and look at it (assuming to give us a quote), then the work could be done early next week. Unfortunately only my wife was home and they just did the work. It turned out the guy had some problems running a new wire for our thermostat so it took him 2 hours. So we ended up paying $275 for labor and $2.55 for a wire. I understand problems can't be foreseen before work is started but I wish I would have had time to consider a quote beforehand. Maybe it's just me but it seems a little pricey. I guess they could have communicated better with my wife on the quote and within their own team since it was different people who did the work and who I talked to on the phone.

Otherwise I do appreciate that they contacted me over the weekend, and while I haven't been able to see the work yet, i'm sure it's a job well done and may consider changing my rating.

Very happy with their service. High winds blew over our furnace vent pipe and left a hole in our roof. Got a quick response via Yelp over Easter weekend, and a call again on Monday morning to schedule an estimate. They managed to get it fixed that same day for a very reasonable rate.

Every employee we interacted with was professional and friendly. They definitely have a strong culture of caring for their customers and for their coworkers.

I highly recommend Manwill. I'm a customer for life now.

Absolutely DEPLORABLE!!! I called 3 times over 4 hours for an emergency. The people of this complex swear by Manwill Plumbing. I was promised at LEAST a call back to say someone was coming on not at now, 5 hours later and None of us can use our plumbing and not the single decency to at least let us know that no one was EVER planning to call or come!?!? Do not do business with a company that doesn't value you, your situation or time. Disgusting treatment and I'll make sure no one in the complex uses their service again. Truly shameful treatment

My garbage disposal had been broken a long time, and when I finally got around to calling for help, I was able to get someone to look at it that same day. Bill diagnosed the problem, and didn't charge for the 1st visit since a new garbage disposal was needed. I ordered it from Amazon, and he installed it a week later in less than 1 hr.

Really great company & friendly staff. All these reviews are pretty much spot on from my experience. Request David, you will be glad you did. He was the technician that came to our house to fix problem (Leaking Unit in House). Thanks again guys, you have earned a customer for life.

I called Manwill for a second opinion after another plumber quoted me an outrageous price for a shower faucet repair. Dave arrived on time and fixed the issue within an hour. The price was about 1/6th what I was quoted from the other plumber. Efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. Manwill will be my Plumbing, HVAC company from now on!
