In 1920, Vearl Manwill loaded his horse and wagon with tools, carbide lights, and pipes to start a mission that would lead him to numerous farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. Eventually, Vearl opted to establish himself in Salt Lake City and opened a plumbing business from his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His shop was a complete hardware store that sold washers, dryers, and even jewelry. Vearl bought one of the earliest television sets in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it became a sensation in the community and brought in large numbers of people. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to focus on his expertise—plumbing and heating products. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.
Today, Jim Manwill, the third generation, runs the business. Jim was raised in the family business engaging in tasks from trench digging to plumbing new homes, executing repairs, and selling HVAC products. Currently, Jim leads a team of over 40 trained service experts focused on delivering exceptional customer service, reliable products, and quality craftsmanship. Jim received the ""Circle of Excellence"" award. Most recent honors include ""Best of State"" from 2011 to 2015 and the Angie's List Super Service Award for the years 2008 to 2015.
Jim's nephew, Brian Jackson, represents the fourth generation in the business. Brian has worked full-time since 1994. He is now the general manager, managing day-to-day operations. Manwill Plumbing and Heating is excited about the future and is making plans to uphold its leadership role.

Scam Business. Claimed I had a cracked heat exchanger in my furnace. Threatened to lock out my furnace if I didn't replace it. Had another outfit inspect my furnace. No crack found.
""What Is The Cracked Heat Exchanger Scam? The cracked heat exchanger scam is when a dishonest HVAC tech or contractor tells you the heat exchanger in your furnace is broken. It's leaking carbon monoxide, so they have to shut down the unit so only they or another HVAC company can turn it back on""
I was very happy with the job Manwill did in replacing my old water heater with a new one. They were prompt, professional, and cheerful through the whole process, and I'm happy with the result.
This would have been a five-star review other than the money aspect. That's really partly my fault, because I should have been more diligent in shopping around. After it was all done I checked online for the same make and model of water heater. An unit with the exact same make and model was under $800 at Home Depot, and Manwill charged me almost $2,400. Of course if I had gone with Home Depot I would have had a lot more hassle -- finding someone to pick up and deliver the new one, haul away the old one, and swap out the unit in our house. But I'm pretty sure I could have found an installer who would do all of those things for a lot less than $1,600.
The plumber explained everything to me went above and beyond to make sure everything was working. When I need a plumber again for sure I will be calling Manwill Plumbing
I decided to have manwill come by to give a second opinion on a furnace that wasn't working. Another company (I won't say who) had told me the furnace had $1600 worth or repairs to do and since it was 16 years old that it made more sense to replace it.
I'm glad I called Manwill because they fixed it in 45 minutes for $300. It was a simple heating element. It's so nice to deal with an honest company. I'll certainly hire them again.
John K.Best contractor I have dealt with. Had an emergency repair to furnace. Great service and they put the Customer No. 1
Kelly W.Following my last positive experience with Manwill I decided to contact them again to install some Ecobee thermostats at my office. Despite having a c-wire behind the existing thermostats it was not powering the Ecobee and I wasn't in the mood to climb the roof of my office building so I contacted Manwill. They were able to get us scheduled right away and the techs they sent out were on-time, knowledgeable, friendly, and got the job done very quickly!
John M.Maybe I just got a bad apple He fixed my plumbing And said he would come back to replace some valves since he tool was broken,,, He did not return also Turns out the whole setup continued to leak I found another plumber who Charged me an Insane amount for the same job But they replaced every component and now I have a leak free faucet. I still dont know which one is better I mean my wallet is now broken But everything works I think perhaps these guys are good just the guy they sent me wasnt? IDK Anyhow They showed up they did some work (Reused my old parts) End of the day My sink still leaked not as badly but still and I had No turnoff valves because the guy didnt have the tool. I think if the guy would have returned like he said I would have showed him it was still leaking and he probably would have fixed it, I never reached back out to have them repair it Because of the employee of thiers who Didnt follow through. Just searched for a new plumber I think I found the most expensive one in town.. But the work is great .
Michelle T.Paul was knowledgeable, professional and friendly. He fixed my AC in same day and saved me a bunch of $$$
Onslow P.Whomever I spoke to over the phone was amazing! I was referred to call Manwill by my parents and their friend who have used them for years. The person I spoke with over the phone listened to my story about another company trying to tell me my whole new AC and Furnace systems needed to be replaced after just four years. They explained in terms I could understand how the systems work and how it should still be covered under warranty. They took the time to help me understand what I needed and ideas on how to get it done even though they're booked out for a few weeks and knew I needed something done sooner.
The phone call to them helped save me thousands. Unfortunately due to the super hot season and everyone else having the same issue they were booked out pretty far. I ended up calling another excellent company to come help me out who had availability but I'd 100% recommend Manwill without hesitation.
Andrew M.Our consultant was great. We were looking at maybe adding a mini-split in our kitchen. He looked at our central air unit, got information and provided recommendations. Ultimately he recommended trying closing more basement vents, covering part of the main return by the furnace to force it to pull more air from the upstairs returns and turn the A/C down a little bit and see if that would work. He said if that works and costs a little more each month it would be cheaper than a separate split unit. It is good to see that he wasn't just in it for the money, but also in providing good service even if that means not making the sale today. We will definitely be calling Manwill next time we need anything, including when our furnace - A/C goes out and needs to be replaced.
Thank you.
