In 1920, Vearl Manwill loaded his horse and wagon with tools, carbide lights, and pipes to begin a journey that brought him to many farmhouses to implement “modern” carbide lighting and piping. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. Eventually, Vearl opted to establish himself in Salt Lake City and opened a plumbing business from his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, Vearl launched his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. The shop was a full-service hardware store offering washers, dryers, and even jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it captured the attention of the town and drew crowds of people. Eventually, Vearl moved away from selling jewelry and other appliances to focus on his expertise—plumbing and heating products. Today, the company is run by his grandson.
Today, Jim Manwill, the third generation, runs the business. Jim spent his childhood in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment. Jim now employs over 40 skilled service professionals focused on delivering exceptional customer service, reliable products, and quality craftsmanship. Jim earned the ""Circle of Excellence"" recognition. Most recent honors include ""Best of State"" from 2011 to 2015 as well as the Angie's List Super Service Award for 2008-2015.
Brian Jackson, the fourth generation, also works in the business. Brian has worked full-time since 1994. He is now the general manager, managing day-to-day operations. Manwill Plumbing and Heating is excited about the future and is preparing to maintain its leadership position.

Recommended Customer Reviews

Our consultant was great. We were looking at maybe adding a mini-split in our kitchen. He looked at our central air unit, got information and provided recommendations. Ultimately he recommended trying closing more basement vents, covering part of the main return by the furnace to force it to pull more air from the upstairs returns and turn the A/C down a little bit and see if that would work. He said if that works and costs a little more each month it would be cheaper than a separate split unit. It is good to see that he wasn't just in it for the money, but also in providing good service even if that means not making the sale today. We will definitely be calling Manwill next time we need anything, including when our furnace - A/C goes out and needs to be replaced.
Thank you.

They are honest and communication is great with the home office, technician and me (owner). They cleared a slow drain in minutes. The technician cut me a break and the cost was less than quoted. I would recommend.

I can't comment on their service or products, but I do want it known that I visited their store this week. There were 6 or 7 employees milling about, some in very close proximity to each other, and NOBODY was wearing a mask, including the person who rang up my order. This is unacceptable, and for that reason alone, I will look for a competitor if ever I need these services.

Highly recommend Manwill Plumbing. I needed a backyard hose bib repaired and had received a bid from a big-name plumbing company for $700. They wanted to rip out the wall, replace the entire stretch of pipe - all for a small leak in the bib's vacuum cap. I have enough experience with owning property to know this was a ridiculous bid and way over the top.
Manwill came super fast upon requesting a quote on Yelp and quickly fixed the leaking part for $96. The plumber stayed onsite for a while afterwards to test the pressure and make sure there was not another leak. All in all, they came quickly, repaired the issue quickly, and were more than reasonably priced. Would highly recommend calling them first if you have plumbing needs.
By the way my wife is a realtor and she is going to start referring clients to Manwill when things need to be fixed as part of the selling process.

Just want to thank Manwill Plumbing for saving our asses today.
AC went out sunday and was fixed today at a very reasonable price. Particularly want to thank David Newsome, brilliant technician and a great guy. Well done Manwill!

Bad Business Here!
Took advantage of an old widow by selling her and installing an overpriced furnace that was at least 50% too much capacity as what her condo needed. And when I called them out on it, the GM did everything he could to weasel out of their responsibility.

On 5/12/20 David came from Manwill Plumbing & Heating to perform an A/C tune-up. He tested my unit in the basement and then was going outside to do the A/C compressor. I had just purchased two cans of A/C Compressor Foaming Cleaner. I told him that I was going to clean the compressor before he came; however, the weather prevented me from doing the cleaning. He said ""let's go clean it."" I could not believe it. All I had to do was get my hose out of my shed and hook it up. He quickly took all the sides off, sprayed the foam and used the hose to rinse off all of the foam. I had done this in the fall; however, he showed me a few different tricks to do a better job. He even took the one can and threw it in the garbage for me. I don't think there is an HVAC Company in the Valley, Utah or the USA that has a Tech that would do this for a customer. He also performed all of the normal tests on the compressor and he did it without the big gauges as I have seen in the past. David is a very high tech man. On a scale of 1-10, this Tech deserves a 13. I can't think of anyone else who has ever gone so far above and beyond to help a customer. This man is amazing, awesome and fantastic. I want him at my house forever.

The pilot light went out on our water heater. We had used them to replace our AC unit when another company wanted to screw us over. Their price for that was good and they were professional.
I think that things have changed.
Granted, my water heater will be due for replacement in a year or two, but as of right now its in fantastic condition apart from needing a $20 thermocouple.
We called Manwill, they came out a day later. The guy spent 5 minutes with it, then announces to my son that we need a new water heater and then leaves.
So, I called another plumbing service, (I'll be reviewing them next) who came out right away and fixed it.
If Manwill wanted to sell us a new water heater in the future, they should have fixed this one.

We had a central air unit and furnace put into our Sugarhouse Bungalow Home 5yrs ago and have had nothing but issues with both units. A brand new system and problems one after another. Now a leak supposedly somewhere in our ac unit. We've covered our unit every winter unbelievable!!! Nothing great about them.
Up to date, this year the owner of the company had worked with my husband in making sure that everything was working well. We truly appreciate all that was done with no charge. Thank you

Manwill has sent out HVAC technicians to our house twice, once for a regular furnace maintenance and once for a follow-up repair, and both times I have had just about the best experience I've ever had with service pros. They seemed genuinely interested in helping us learn to care for our systems and did a great job all around. Will be calling them again!
