The journey began in 1960 when Bart Mahoney, Jr. started Highwood Plumbing with a commitment to service, repair, and custom home remodeling. The foundation of the business was built on integrity, quick, personal service and a commitment to hard work.

In 1972, Bart's eldest son, Dan, joined to gain hands-on experience. By working with Bart, Dan gained expertise and appreciated the value of client care. Dan purchased the company in January 1986 and rebranded it Mahoney Plumbing, Inc. Through 70 to 80 hour workweeks, Dan developed the repair services and initiated the remodeling and new construction division.

In 2001, Mahoney Plumbing expanded into the HVAC market focusing on furnace and air conditioning services.

Today, Mahoney Plumbing is a full-service home comfort service provider, employing 17 dedicated employees to address the plumbing, heating, and cooling needs.

At the helm, Dan guarantees the team adheres to Mahoney Plumbing's mission. Having worked alongside his father, Bart Mahoney Jr., since 1960 Dan has been immersed in plumbing since 1972 and has remained active in many areas of the business, including training new techs to overseeing finances. Dan is the backbone of the organization, leading by example with strong principles that influence his daily routine.

Dan, a Highwood local, completed his education from Carmel High School and then went on to the IL Institute of Technology. A passionate supporter of the plumbing industry, Dan has served numerous responsibilities on committees. Currently, Dan serves on the Board of Directors for PAMCANI (Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Authority of Northern Illinois). Dan is a Trustee for the Local Pension and Welfare for the Local 501 Union and is a Director of the Illinois PHCC (Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association). He was the President of the IL PHCC in 2006.

Wow, Please be careful before using them. This is why I say this. They came to fix my water heater. I went and got the thermostat before they came so they would have the part here and I wouldn't here that they would need to order it.
The thermostat includes a top thermostat for the top burner and one for the bottom. I had both the top and bottom.
He came, spent under an hour here, talked to me for half of it, replaced just the top thermostat and billed me $287.78.
The next day it stopped working again and we called them back. This time he replace the bottom thermostat, which take just a few minutes. And shockingly he charged me another $97.00 for something he should have done in the first place. His error or apparent laziness led to him having to make another visit.
I'm really upset and disgusted by the lack of professionalism.
I caution anyone!
Thanks,

I so wish yelp allowed 0 star reviews. This company is just plain awful. We had to get our garbage disposal replaced quickly and they came out. They assessed the situation and let us know that we did indeed need a new disposal. It was just my grandmother and I and we really didn't have the time to shop around for prices. It was the first night of Rosh Hashanah so we were desperate. The guy told us that it would end up costing us over $700 dollars. We almost choked. $700?!?!?!? Really???? We were upset, but again desperate so we accepted the charge. The guy installed it. Once he left we felt extremely taken advantage of. I later looked at prices for disposals and the one we needed looked like we could get it for only $215. I am so utterly disgusted with this business that they would take advantage of their customers in this way. STAY AS FAR AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN FROM THIS BUSINESS. Their morals are disgusting and atrocious. I am so upset about this. Stay away from them.

Terrible customer service. Were downright rude to me on the phone when they would not resolve problem they caused to my satisfaction. Was a member in their ""club"" where pay monthly fee to get better service/10% discount on service work, didn't matter. Cancelled that membership and called Killian Plumbing for further work. They charged half the price for the same job! Take your business elsewhere!

They are apparently now part of Ravinia plumbing, the worlds most expensive plumbers. Would NEVER call them again

Our hot water heater kept going out. We called Mahoney - they came out quickly and said it need to be cleaned and serviced for about $200. The pilot light continued to go out so we called again. The same guy came out and spent about 30 seconds re-lighting the pilot to the tune of $175. He never addressed why the light continued to go out. My husband called and talked to the owner who said we were ""probably over-charged by $30 or $40"" and he would refund us that amount. That never happened. In the meantime, when the pilot light went out again in less than a week, our tenant who is handy did a Google search and found the problem to be the thermocouple. He installed the $10 part and it's been fine for months. It's hard to believe a licensed plumber would miss this and charge $175 to re-light a pilot light. If you have this problem, I'll give you my tenant's number instead.

Mahoney plumbing bills for Ravinia heating and plumbing. They re-lit the pilot light on my tenant's hot water heater. I called at 3:30 pm and they arrived at 9:30 pm. They said there was a $140 service charge and would call if anything else was required. They said they would mail me a bill. They did neither. My credit card was charged by Mahoney Plumbing. I called them and they said they would rectify the problem. They never called again. I called Ravania and they did nothing. Terrible company without integrity. Do not trust this company. Do not use them!

I have never felt so over charged as I have from having Mahoney Plumbing fix a leak in our Kohler spa tub. It took 2 visits and ended up costing $298.65 for a part that took less than 5 minutes to install and cost about $8 from Kohler. I know because I called to see if they still carried the part.

If you think $214.00 is reasonable for the 1/2 hour it took to rod out a sink drain, then I highly recommend Mahoney

It is recommended that you get familiar with the ""Illinois Home Repair and Remodeling Act,"" which is clearly written and easily understood.
Just do a search (google or other) on the name. Well worth your time.

I had used Mahoney in the past so called them when I wanted a new kitchen faucet installed. They had a plumber out to me within a couple of hours after I called them.
The plumber told me it was going to be over $400 to install the faucet, based on an ""average"" cost of installing a faucet on the north shore! It is a new pricing tool they are using. instead of charging by the hour as they used to do, they now use a book that tells you the ""average"" cost of work and price based on that. When I said no thank you, I was told I was going to have to pay a $65 fee for them to come out. (None of this was not explained when I called to have them come out. )
I did call the person that sends out the plumbers, she did waive the initial fee.
When I called another plumber (that also came out immediately) the cost to have the faucet installed was $175!!
