Michael J. Maguire arrived from Ireland in the early 1900s, settling in the Newton/Waltham region to work in plumbing.
He served in the United States Army during WW1 and following discharge, he continued working in the plumbing industry.

Circa 1922, he began providing plumbing and steam heating services as Michael J. Maguire Plumbing and Heating with three employees working on residential projects.
His three sons, William, Robert, and Michael, achieved master plumber status.
The second son, Robert, developed the company to include commercial services and construction, officially incorporating as Maguire Company, Inc. in 1969.

Dennis V. Maguire, Robert's second son, followed in the family footsteps as a master plumber.
Today the Maguire Company, Inc. is a vibrant third-generation family owned and operated corporation providing a wide range of plumbing, heating, mechanical contracting services to residential, commercial and institutional clients.
This is a third generation plumbing company.
Since 1922, we have offered our plumbing services.

I had a poor experience with Maguire. I had called them for faucet replacement. They said I would pay the $45 dispatch fee and the faucet replacement fee, and that they have faucets in the truck and could do the replacement on the same day. Upon showing up, they said they didn't have faucets, so I should buy them on my own and then call them, and I will need to pay a $135 diagnostics fee for the first visit (in addition to the dispatch fee). When I complained that I was given inaccurate information on the phone, the service manager was rather rude. He ended up saying ""maybe you should call somebody else"". What a waste of time. It seems like Maguire doesn't value customer satisfaction.

On the coldest day in several decades, our furnace stopped running. Andrew came out on a holiday. He spent time trying to figure out how to get our furnace to run through the night, until we could buy 2 needed parts, and in doing so discovered a couple of blockages that, once cleared, meant we no longer needed new parts. Just by spending enough time, he saved us a lot of money! Andrew was polite and also explained to me how everything worked so I could understand what the problem was. We are new Maguire customers.

On a weekend, we had a problem with our gas boiler: Our hot water tank was on a priority zone and it would not release to allow heat to circulate through the house. The company that did the installation 4 years ago does not have 24 hour service but recommended Maguire. I called and got a call-back promptly and Anthony talked me out of a very expensive off-hour service call by explaining how to override the priority manually. Two weeks later, after the problem recurred, we determined from error codes on the man board that the temperature sensor and the main control board needed to be replaced. The work was done promptly and efficiently yesterday, and I will be calling Maguire for any future needs and recommending them to my friends.

The Boston area had a record-setting winter in 2014 with almost 10 feet of snow, and we had considerable damage to the house. I dealt with a lot of contractors to get the repair work completed, and it was like herding cats. It took 6 months, and was challenging, to say the least. In the Fall I decided to replace my (65+ yr old) oil heating system and I put a high priority on quality product, customer service, and showing up! I chose Maguire because they were very professional and responsive. Not the cheapest quote, but I'm wiling to pay somewhat more to have good service. How many cats can you herd in a year? I had a gas boiler and indirect water heater system installed, which took about a week to complete. It's pretty much a work of art, in an old cellar. The work crew was terrific. Every aspect of the job was positive. I need a new kitchen disposal (sigh - is there no end?) and will have Maguire install it.

We were very happy with the work this company did for us, fixing a big leak by replacing a shower valve and fixing our furnace by replacing most of the electronics. The fellow who did the work was Dave, who was very courteous and efficient. Maguire is now our go-to plumber.

I would not call $269 for a routine gas boiler tune-up service as reasonable pricing, no matter how dependable or consistent they are. By the way they did not quote us the price on the phone (apparently my wife forgot to ask the pricing), which they should have automatically done regardless of whether we asked or not! We learnt the price after the guy showed up.

Early on a Sunday morning, I woke to no hot water and a big puddle of water in my basement. My hot water heater had ruptured. Maguires was the only company that took my call on that Sunday morning (ok, there was another that was so rude I'll never hire him), though a few others did return my call on Monday morning.

Anthony talked me through turning off the water and gas to the unit and described how to drain the tank so I would have no further leakage in the basement, and no problems with a gas leakage.

I also didn't want to replace my water heater with another free-standing unit since they're less efficient and only last 8-10 years anyway. I wanted to do an upgrade to an indirect system with a stainless storage tank. So a more complicated job than just taking the old heater out and installing a new one.

We set up a time on Monday for him to come and survey the job and give me an estimate. I had two other plumbers bid the job as well. Maguire was the lowest of the three, but all were within a couple-hundred dollars of each other. I chose Maguires not only because they had the low bid (the difference wasn't enough to make a difference if other factors applied), but because of their responsiveness and the fact that they could get a crew in here the next day to get the hot water flowing again.

On the day of service, the crew arrived at the appointed time and got straight to work. They were efficient and courteous and when the job was through they fully explained the work they did and the details of the new system. The work area was left clean and they took all the debris with them when they left. The final bill was exactly as quoted.

I will definitely be calling Maguire again for my next plumbing job.

I called Maguire because I had drain flies. The Maguire plumber claimed he'd never heard of drain flies and left after a few minutes without having done anything, and for that I received a bill for $180!
