I've used Mack Darr for the last 16 years. Never again. It is not the same company, and I don't know why. My furnace was on the way out, so I called them. The man arrived, looked at the furnace and said I'd need a new one or pay $500 for the part (furnace was 22 years old). He said he'd call me with a quote. He left a message saying it would be $4,800. I called back and had to leave a message asking what the brand of furnace would be. He called back and said, I'm calling you back."" I called back and left message saying I was calling back. He left message saying he was calling back. I left message and asked that they tell him (since he was out again) that I needed to talk about the brand of furnace. I asked if he could call back and if I wasn't answering, to just tell me the furnace brand. Never heard from him again. I asked to have a new sink in my bathroom hooked up during a remodel. The worker did the plumbing but didn't connect it to water supply. I went to their office with the bill for this service and asked if the problem was that he couldn't do it or if he preferred waiting until the shower was done. Office worker said they'd ask and call me. That was 3 months ago. No word. The time before I had a list of things for the plumber to do, which included fixing a constant leak under the kitchen sink. He left without doing it. I had to keep a bowl under the sink for weeks. There is something seriously wrong with their communication, and when I called to complain. The owner (who confessed he was the furnace guy) spent the time trying to defend himself, saying he called me multiple times. I used to love Mack Darr. Never again.
About a month ago I contated Mack Darr to ask for a quote to install a new toilet. They scheduled a time and did not show up. I called the next morning and they told me the estimator had my contact info on a piece of paper and it blew out of the window of the van. Really. We rescheduled and they showed up on time the next day. After about 2 weeks I had not heard from them, so I called back. They assured me they would have a quote to me by the end of the week. I didn't get a quote. I called again, was assured I would have a quote that day. No quote. I have called them every day this week, I've been told they would call me later that same day, and again, no calls, no quote. Every time I call they ask me for my telephone number and address again. If, for some reason, they don't want to do the job, just say so. Stop stringing me along. If they said they couldn't do the job at this time I would be OK with that and probably call them again in the future, but at this point there is no way I would even consider them for any future project.
Always responsive and staff is very courteous and neat. Ran into a heating concern with one of our boilers on a cold morning. Called at 8:30 am and a technician was at my home at 9am. Repair was completed quickly.
I woke up this AM with a leaking water heater, the unit has been installed for 12 years so I figured I got my money's worth. I called Mack M Darr at 8:10 AM, talked to John, explained the problem. John said he would get right on it. As I settled in with a cup of coffee to wait for service I happened to look outside at 8:55 AM the Mack Darr truck was driving into my drive. 45 minutes after I called, at 10:00 AM had hot water, less than 2 hours after the initial call, that is service well above and beyond. I have been a costumer of Mack Darr for 16 years now and each time I have called them for service I have been impressed by their dedication to customer service, though this time I am completely blown away.
Mack Darr has taken care of our heating, cooling, and plumbing needs for years, in an older home that has needed a decent amount of TLC. They've been consistently good with all our repairs and needed updates. We have found that they are willing to do smart process-of-elimination analysis, rather than just wanting to put in expensive new replacement parts right out of the gate. And they could not be more accommodating and helpful on the office side of things--on more than one occasion they've looked stuff up for us when we've needed the back history on some of the mechanicals of the house. A bonus is that all of the guys they send out are super, super nice.
