About three years ago, I had a leak in my bathroom ceiling. M Cary was very responsive. They came out, determined quickly that it was the overflow and replaced it. I found the bill to be expensive, ~$240, but didn't know much about plumbing and was happy that it was fixed. Three years later, (now), I noticed a leak in the same area. This time, I was more selective in my search for a plumber. I found one. They came out, determined that it was that same overflow and mentioned that it wasn't installed properly and it looked used. I realize that this is based on his viewpoint, but he was there much longer, the bill was practically half of what M Cary charged AND it included a little more work.

As it stands now, don't make the same mistake I did. I am disappointed and feel that they ripped me off because they didn't do what I hired them to do. I wanted to support them because they are local and truthfully, I thought it was a family-owned small business, not one that hires out contractors. The job I had seemed relatively easy. Other contractors had quoted $200 (I figured all total it might come to around $300) but since I had contacted M. Cary first, I decided they were the ones to go with. I was wrong. I spoke with another plumber who had contacted me the same day M. Cary was set to come; he was kind enough to call the next day to see if my problem was fixed (a smart business decision on his part). Having had a long conversation with him about what happened, I wish I had gone with him instead. He seemed very genuine and knowledgeable. He also has excellent ratings on HomeGuide. But I digress... M. Cary & Daughters Pros and Cons: CONS: - EXTREMELY overpriced - Incomplete work PROS: - The contractor was friendly. - The person who took the appointment was friendly. At least I know not to hire them in the future myself and hopefully, this review will let neighbors know they might want to find a different plumber if the price is a concern. PRICE BREAKDOWN (why I think it was fair to just offer to pay for the parts) Yes, he did have to come out 2 times, but my condo is literally 1 mile (3 min drive) from M. Cary and on both visits combined, he spent less than an hour doing work and travel. The reason he had to come out twice was that he needed to order the part. The total cost quoted on the first visit: $320, (I didn't realize that the dispatch fee was extra but even so, that would be $385) Total cost breakdown with knowledge of parts + labor prices $185 (the hourly charge for labor) $65 (cartridge est.) $80 (what he claimed part cost) $65 (dispatch fee) -------------------------------- Total Actual Cost with Labor and Parts: $395 Total I paid on the first visit: $470 Since they didn't complete the job, the total additional they wanted me to pay for a 2nd visit was $265 I offered to pay for parts only: $80 Total Actual parts and labor: $395 Total Amount I paid: $470 Additional I originally offered to pay for parts: $80 Amended Additional I offered to pay for parts + time: $100 They could have made $570 on a job that should have been at most $395 and had a satisfied local customer who would have used them again but they opted to hold firm at $735... losing $100 with a dissatisfied customer and no repeat business. WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT: - Upfront, the cost of their dispatch fee is $65. That does not get subtracted from the cost of the service. - Communication with genuinely nice people - Might need to stay on top of it. They tended to call back right away but if it's a """"follow up"""" call, it might fall off their radar. - To be charged a LOT more than the market rate (remember that you're paying for the contractors + company so it's much more expensive than it would be to go with someone who works for themselves). If money is no object, they are good. You can just think of it as """"supporting a local business."""" Yes, they charge too much and in good faith, I don't recommend them for that reason, but I have nothing bad to say about the company itself. If you would rather just support an individual, it is less expensive.

M Cary & Daughters Plumbing. Just to give neighbors a head's up, I had a very bad experience with them. There is an interment leak in our upstairs bathroom that I wanted to see if they could diagnose. They said there was a 60 trip charge which we were fine with. The plumber came, and claimed that if you ran the tub slowly, water could get on the floor because it's a filler for a clawfoot tub. We explained we hadn't run the tub in weeks, so it wasn't the problem. He said it might be anyway and proceeded to charge us an extra $200 for his """"diagnostics""""

Real good, solid pros. I had to wait a bit longer to get them over here than I'd have liked, but that's more a testimonial to how busy they are than a criticism. I've used em before and I will again. Hopefully not soon though.

They charged $215 for a simple 20 minute drain unclog. They are way too expensive in my book. If you have to use them, be sure to ask the price first. I feel like paying $600 an hour is way out of line

This was my first experience with this plumber and it was top notch. Kat and her assistant fixed my bathtub faucet leak and they were very professional and efficient. They kept me in the loop about everything. They were clean and quiet, I had a baby sleeping in the next room! I felt the job they did was done with integrity and expertise. Polite, on time and did the job in as little time as possible - awesome!

This was our first time to use M Cary & Daughters Plumbing and we would not hesitate to use them again. Andrew was the plumber that did our work and he was wonderful. He was great at keeping me informed of his progress (which I really appreciated!) From the beginning to the end, the process was smooth!

The did a good job but they were too overpriced. I had to pay them 2-3 times what my plumber usually charges me for a similar job. Next time I'll just wait until he is available.

I was very excited to see a plumbing company run and operated by women, but was very disappointed by one of the male plumbers who came to my home today. I had contacted them to have them check out a leak at the base of my toilet and a flooding of water happening every so often with my kitchen sink. When they came, I was at work, and they were interacting with my wife, and were extremely disrespectful to her and didn't believe her when she said why we called them in the first place. They lazily initially didn't even examine the problem, and were saying """"someone had bad aim."""" When my wife insisted this was not the problem and had to keep insiting and showing them the small hole at the base of the toilet that has been leaking, they finally realized the massive, $400 problem. And they did the same thing with the other issue in our kitchen sink before finally actually examining the problem and fixing it. I expected much more from a company run and operated by women to not listen to and respect my wife's reporting of the problem. They finally fixed all the problems, but we are definitely never using them again.

These ladies are amazing! We had a leak on the back of our house, thought we were in real trouble, they came and took a look and it turned out only to be a fitting that we just couldn't get tight enough. They didn't charge us a dime and now we haev them helping us install a new bathroom. Honest and dependable
