Kathy M.We had used this company once before, and so in an emergency situation, we called them again. NEVER again. The gentleman was in our home for 2 hours, and forced me to make payment before he left. He handed me a lump sum, carbon copy of a bill stating $1,001.00. Well, it was a boiler repair, so what do I know about cost of repair, so to get him out of my home, I gave him my credit card for payment and he finally left. I was actually afraid for my safety, alone in my home with a sketchy repairman. Our insurance company would not take the lump sum bill, so we asked for itemized bill. We received a bill showing $274.00 + tax for the part and over $670.00 for labor, when we had been quoted $90.00 an hour for labor - and he was in our home two hours. We have gone round and round with this Michael Porter, owner of MCP, reported to the Better Business Bureau for mediation and finally the Attorney General's Office. They have responded to no one - but our credit card company to refute our dispute of the charge. Chase Bank (I will review them separately) is standing behind this crook. He provided a lump sum bill and refused to take phone calls or any other requests by BBB and Attorney General. Attorney General's office reported to me that their phone has been disconnected and they do not appear to be in business at that location anymore. However, slime buckets like Mr. Porter, will just open up somewhere else with a new name. Be cautious - as WHO the owner is before you sign on - and if they say Michael Porter - Run for the hills.
I wish I read the reviews before going ahead with this company. But I was desperate - there was water raining down in my baby's room.
So, I found him on Service Magic and he was the first plumber to arrive on scene. I never caught his name. Strangely, I was yelling at the guy to GO TO THE BASEMENT AND SHUT OFF THE WATER. Isn't this plumbing 101 to shut off the water? I was too busy moving the furniture, clothes, a rug from the room.
Then I suggested shutting off the power - and I did. He was just really an idiot - and sorry, but ugly, too - bald with a lisp and smelled like nasty cologne- where do these slime balls come from??? I should have asked if he was even licensed.
He kept saying he couldn't do anything or diagnose the problem without access to the unit above. He said, ""I can't do anything until I can get into the locked unit but I do like money."" Well, I called the Fire Department and they got into the unit above and still, this bozo just stood around clueless while I was paying $90 per hour. Even after he had access to the unit above he still just acted dumb and didn't do anything. I should have listened to his earlier line about money- but I was so frantic about what was happening.
Not to give excuses, but as a single mother/ new condo owner I was a little scared.
I just told him to leave - enough is enough. He charged me $320 and all he did was turn off the water.
So here I am with no reason for the leak to give to the adjuster and nothing is repaired. Nice, huh? I have a new plumber - Winter's in Cambridge - coming out Tuesday.
I WAS TOTALLY SUCKERED!!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! EVER!!! Really, I mean it.
He deserves a minus star if there was one - I hesitate to even click one star.
Maybe when the dust settles I'll call the BBB on this moron for being incompetant....
This guy closed his prior business 2 years ago then reopened this one under the new name; he hasn't a clue what he's doing. Screwed up my kitchen pipes using the 3 stooges for workers and left me with 3 leaking pipes and a 2000 dollar credit card bill, telling me 3 days later he'd closed his business and couldn't do anything for me but would ""fix"" the problems. He never came back. Cost me another 500 to have someone else fix his ""work."" He is a crook plain and simple.
When I spoke with Mike at MCP Plumbing & Heating he was very helpful to me on the phone. We set up an appointment at my convenience. The service tech was professional and courteous. I was very happy with the service and price at MCP. I would recommend them to my family and friends.
He was 2 hours late, His quote was for $160 to fix the leaking pipe. When he found out that the disposal had to be replaced he did not simply add the price of the disposal to the quote ($150). Instead the total bill came to $565. He actually charged us for travel time at $160/hr, which he never quoted on the phone. He did not get an approval from us for the new estimate. He left no receipt for the new disposal, I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN!
***DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IT IS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE****
Had an appointment yesterday for them to look at my forced hot air system. 30 mins after they were supposed to show up I called them. The response I got, ""Oh I thought you were supposed to call me back to confirm the time"". Nope, we had agreed on the time and made an appt.
Rescheduled the appt for today at 2:30pm today. Called at 3:10pm because of course they weren't here yet. ""Ahhhh let me see where the guy is"". Turns out he was in Norton about 40 mins away. Completely useless, don't give a sh*t about customers. Asked him why he didn't call to update me that he'll be late and he didn't have an answer. These guys have no clue how to run a business.
I repeat ****DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY*****
Trust the reviews about them on Yelp
Deceptive advertising, they looked like a local company based on their ad but were not. Charged 15 minutes travel time both ways at 135.00 per hour. Tried to replace a bunch of parts on the boiler that were fine including my circulator pump, told me it wasn't working even though the return pipes were hot? Also told me a check valve was bad because when he took the jam nut off the insides came out, I have been in the business of selling these types of parts for years and they all come apart like that but he made a big deal like he was trying to scare me. Tried to push an electric water heater install on me. Over billed me and when I called to discuss he was very vague as to what he was crediting me, which made sense when I got his check today, what a slap in the face that was. Marked up the list price of the parts he used 30% even though I could buy them anywhere for 50% off the list price. This company will take advantage of you if you are in a night or weekend emergency situation, make sure you call EVERYONE else first.
Sandy S.On a Wednesday evening, I called them about a frozen pipe that had burst in my kitchen, and I was told that someone would be at my house within the next hour. After about an hour and a half, I called for an update and was told that I might have to wait a few more hours than they had originally expected. This is all fine with me, but then the owner himself (Mike, I think his name is) suggests that I reschedule my appointment for the following morning, because then I'd be guaranteed first place on their list of customers and I'd be the first customer that one of their trucks would come out to see when they arrived @ MCP @ 7:30 in the morning, like they always do. Mike said that there would be a truck at my house at 9:30am the latest. With Mike's assurance, I agree to the rescheduling despite my reservations.
I explicitly say to Mike, ""Are you sure someone will be here in the morning, because I know it's snowing, and I don't want to be told that no one can come out because of the snow?""
Mike says, ""Please don't worry about it. We'll see you in the morning.""
Needless to say, no one came.
When I called for my last update @ 11:30 in the morning, Mike (in his unceremonious way) proceeded to scold me and tell me that if I couldn't wait, I should just call another company. Then he hung up on me. I immediately called back to ask when I should expect them here, and he (once again) hung up on me. Priceless!
What can I say?
After waiting many hours, this company still left me in the lurch without ever coming over to fix the plumbing problem, and they treated me like I was expendable.
AVOID THIS COMPANY IF YOU VALUE ETHICAL & COURTEOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE.
THEY ARE EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL & DISRESPECTFUL.
THEY'RE THE KIND OF PLUMBING COMPANY THAT TREATS & STEREOTYPES THEIR FEMALE CUSTOMERS AS NAGS.
If this company does not have the capacity to understand and cope with various people under emergency circumstances, then they should not be in the business of dealing with emergency plumbing situations.
It's absolutely unreasonable to have your customers waiting and waiting and waiting in vain without the courtesy of an update, the truth, or (indeed) the courtesy of common decency.
