I first Phillip for an assessment regarding a decision to have installed an electric heat pump water heater. What impressed me with Issac and Phillip they gave me enough information to mot make that expenditure, saving me thousands of dollars. I then engaged Lutz's services to install a 3/4"" water pressure regulator and a domestic 5 gallon expansion tank for my water heater tank. Both Lutz employees were outstanding: Issac and Ricardo. They knew their craft; were courteous; stuck with the job until completion; only leaving the work site for additional supplies; and cleaned up the work site before leaving. I highly recommend Lutz for any plumbing needs. If they can't do the job or if it is little or no value to you for them commence a job, they will inform you.

Phil is THE BEST. He is honest, patient, knowledgeable. He is the only plumber I will ever use. He is the utmost in professionalism and communication. If Phil ran City Hall, our city would be better run. I cannot speak more highly of him.

He intervened personally with our incredibly difficult (this is understatement, btw) downstairs neighbors and convinced them to let us do crucial and necessary plumbing in our unit- the fact that he would do this just shows how skilled he is not only with his trade but with communication.

You would be absolutely insane not to use Phil, and I have never said that on Yelp about any other service! I offered to write this review as a thank you for his professionalism.

I reached out to Lutz Plumbing in San Francisco, based on web research, to fix my steam spa in Sonoma - no one local was interested. I communicated with Phil and we reached an agreement on what to do and how much it would cost. They sent Edwin Hernandez who knows his stuff and has great people skills, the spa has never worked as well as it does now, including from when it was first installed 10 years ago. Nothing but the highest recommendation for this company!

I am more than happy to give this review. Phil at Lutz Plumbing is the ultimate professional and I couldn't be more happy with the service they provided in the repair of my Kohler Steam Shower unit. In this world where one often feels they have to continually follow up to get any response, Phil and his team were proactive throughout. Phil called me back right away; assessed the issue, got Kohler to honor my warranty, ordered parts and set an appointment-- all within a few days. Being the only Kohler service outfit in the Bay Area, Phil's team had to drive from SF to my place in Santa Cruz, but Isaac could not have been more pleasant and more diligent throughout. Tricky problem solved, Phil followed up the next day to discuss long term maintenance and prevention. I am grateful for the team at Lutz. They're a model from which other service companies should learn. Thank you Phil!

just wanted to thank you for working with me. included on the thank you list is sandra, for scheduling, daniel the tech who set everything up and a big thanks to phil who coordinated the job from beginning to end. he was professional, courteous, and showed a lot of concern in getting everything right. daniel was good to work with as he gave me good solutions and advice along with quality work. you were always courteous and helpful which demonstrated that lutz is a top notch choice for this type of work. you're my first choice if i have any steamist work in the future. it's good to know that there are businesses out there who care about their customers. i give you the thumbs up!

We recently moved and over the course of a week developed an everlasting relationship with Lutz. The team has consistently gone above and beyond: their customer service is outstanding. The team is highly communicative, transparent, solution oriented, and proactive. They are true experts with a plethora of service certifications and a deep understanding of the latest plumbing technologies (in addition to standard plumbing). All of these things makes Lutz exceptional - every single person we've worked with (from scheduling, to design, to all four different plumbers we've had at our house) has been thoughtful, patient, and incredibly helpful. We have a boiler in our home (floor heating and domestic hot water) that had an intermittant problem resulting in our shower turning cold (usually when you had shampoo in your hair). I tried other plumbers but every one just scratched their head.........Lutz to the rescue. The tech (Vern) came out and pinpointed the problem and after 3 years of living with this nightmare, he fixed it. Vern was particularly good at listening to all the things we had tried so he didn't waste time trying those fixes all over again. He took the time to understand our delivery problems and fixed a minor annoyance in addition to the boiler fix, because he listened to what I said. The other 2 plumbers we had tried (and one of them was authorized on this model of boiler) didn't even come close. Thank you Vern and Lutz Plumbing,

Needed 2 new faucets installed. Communicating via email took over a week to get work done
Work was great. Plumber was friendly polite explained what he was doing etc.
only complaint is how long it took to get responses and a comment that she would call on Monday but didn't call until Wednesday.
Again work was great. They came highly recommended from a friend.

Lutz takes the apprehension and guesswork out of calling a plumber. They're transparent in their explanation of scope of work, timely in their responses, and extremely knowledgeable about their craft and products. Throughout the past 30 years Lutz has been our choice for plumbing repairs and updates in our condominium. Most recently they completed bathroom updates that included new shower installation and new toilet. They also just replaced an outdated furnace in our central heating system. In addition to their high quality work, they have their own show room that provides excellent guidance in appropriate product selection. The biggest advantage to this is that the team in the field is well versed in the products available in the showroom allowing for seamless installation when items are being replaced.
Pricewise, Lutz might not be the lowest bidders, but for our household, they have been one of the best values in terms of quality workmanship, timely service, and open communication. We plan to keep using them for all our plumbing needs.

DO NOT USE THEM!!!! $10k in labor to reinstall newer version of Thermasol steam shower, move drain pipe (demolition was done by our contractor), install new shower valve and fixtures, and adjust heights of a couple of water pipes in a gutted-to-the-stud old shower room with super easy access. They will quickly hyper inflate labor cost by sending in 2 plumbers and charge you wth commute (also for $215 PER HEAD) . Many common negative experiences as other reviewers like Mike K. and Marsha. DO read the negative reviews. Common complaint: OVERPRICED!!!

Both Phil and Jerry (Phil's father) comes across as very professional and good communicator but do not be fooled. make sure to have solid estimate of job cost that you can fall back on once you receive their invoice and you are surprised.

IF YOU DO GO WITH THEM, make sure you are there checking in-time and out-time, and ask how long they took to commute and keep a tab. Our steam shower was in pool house and they came and left without our checking on them (got fooled by their professional demeanor).

Too many issues that kept coming up to list all here but here are few example of incapability of the plumbers and poor customer service:
- Soon after they left last day with completed work, we had hot water coming out of steam head non stop even when system was shut off.
- the sound system attached to shower head was making interference sound so loud you could not listen to music (you would think they would have tested the system before they leave.)
-forgot to install ground wire when the room was down to stud. And only realized the mistake after all the sheetrock and tile was up. If we had not argued about it, they would have charged us again for fixing their own mistake.
-Charged our last bill on our credit card for over $3,200 without our authorization even though we had asked them to wait as we had some questions on the invoice.
-Total disrespect and patronizing attitude to customers. We were asked by Phil ""How many steam units have you installed?"" REALLY?!?
-They made us spent unnecessary amount of money on contractor's labor by asking us to excavate unnecessary amount on drain area.

In the end we had another plumber come and fix the problems. His rate was much lower than Lutz and he was able to do the job by himself (not 2 plumbers).
