Recommended Customer Reviews
Lighten Up has helped us numerous times with work on our new house - we've worked with 3 different technicians now (electrical and plumbing) and each has been great. Plus, their office staff are so friendly and helpful - they keep you informed, and even called to see how the work was going one day. Highly recommend!
Rich A.Very professional and friendly. We are in the midst of a remodel and they have been prompt and courteous with our needs. Our house needed a complete re-wire of the panels (house and shop). Their prices were quite fair and they did an excellent job. I highly recommend Lighten Up for your electric needs.
Fredrick R.Carey was prompt and fast - it was an emergency situation over Thanksgiving weekend. He explained everything and we are very happy with the repair. We will use Lighten Up again.
And again - another emergency on Christmas Eve. Carey was great. These guys are the real deal. B
This is the first time I have ever written a review on service I have received. I feel compelled to do it today.
I will make a long story short. I called several HVAC companies to get a quote for a furnace repair, and Lighten Up Electric was the only one not to inform me about a Diagnostic Fee. Because of this, to save some money, I put off the repair of our furnace for another day, when other companies could have come out and helped. When the technician arrived at my home, he informed me about a $99 fee before he could start any work. When he saw that I had taken the cover off of my thermostat and the power switch to my furnace was taken apart, he would have to charge me an extra $100 to put it all back together. I put it all back together for him in 3 minutes to save the $100.
At the end of the day, the problem was a bad limit control. Its a cheap part, no more than $20-$60. It took the technician 10 minutes to replace the part. Grand total at the end of the visit? $595! The technician gave me incorrect information on the part that he was going to replace...I would never have agreed to the price had I known. I also feel that the owner and the technician conducted themselves unprofessionally when I requested a price break down for the labor and the parts. I got the response, ""Did he not fix your furnace?"" When I asked the technician why there was such a high charge for a job that involved a $50 part and 10 minutes of labor, his response was ""Did you know what was wrong with your furnace before I got here?"" They were not so interested in understanding and listening as they were in telling me I owed them money.
I guess I should not have trusted as much as I did, and asked better questions to understand the cost. I am an HVAC rookie, don't know much about it. But, I do know that I feel taken advantage of today and will not be doing business with Lighten Up Electric ever again. $600 is a lot for anybody to pay, and I expect honest and up front information, as well as a fair price.
P.S. I do have to say, this company does have VERY friendly and fun to talk to office staff who work the phones. They were great to work with. Unfortunately, that was my only positive experience with this company.
Ryan L.I had Lighten up Electric come out to check out a leak in my basement. After 10 minutes of looking at only the exposed piping the plumber said it must be a leak in the foundation and ""I"" not him, should rip out the dry wall along the wall until I found the leak. And if it happens to be a pipe call Lighten up and they would come back to repair it. The charge for the advice that could of been given over the phone, $159.00 These guys are pure con artist. My advice do not use them. They will not find the problem, charge you and there manager Ty will call and tell you that you shouldn't have signed your receipt or given payment if you were not happy, because they do not do refunds. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!
Patty B.I'm a Windsor Colorado resident and I rent a home in town.. On Friday August 19th 2015 our main panel blew out.. I called Lighten up because a friend recommended them.. They are local and she said they do a good job.. I have to say they do an excellent job and go above and beyond!! Our electrician Ben was so helpful!! He called me right away followed up and was on time .. He was dressed professionally and extremely dependable. He worked non-stop for 12 hours straight to get us up and running. He communicated with Xcel electric for us and even came back on Sunday to meet them at our home to get us powered back up.. There price was good as well!! I would recommend this company over anyone.. I called several companies and got no call back. Ben and lighten up electric were the only company to call me back.. In fact I got several calls on Monday morning for the others .. Well, they were a day late and a dollar short!! Great job Ben and great job lighten up!! Thank you:)

I had a hot tub electrical connect to complete, described the project to the operator, she stated they would arrive at 1:00pm on their scheduled day. When that day arrived, I find out that it is a 2 hour appointment window of 1 till 3. At 3 I called and they were still 30 minutes out. The operator insisted that they came with fully stocked trucks to complete the project. After a 40 minute estimate preparation, the electrician stated they couldn't complete the project because he didn't have the equipment or material needed and it was getting late in the day. The estimate was extremely high and out of line also. Strike 3! They were out. Will never use their services again and avoid this company at all costs. They wasted my time and theirs.
Chelsea J.I had an issue with some electrical work in my home. Concerned about what to do, I came across your website and immediately scheduled an appointment. Tim (electrician) came to my home and performed the service work for me. He also took the time to go over several options for me and tailored to my budget. Tim went above and beyond just providing the repair work I needed, but also explained concepts that were easy to understand. He's a prime example of professionalism and a valuable asset to LIGHTEN UP.
Quality service, reasonable prices, professionalism....I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to others!
I hired Lighten Up to come and do a sewer inspection for me on a home that I am in escrow with. They gave me a bid over the phone that magically increased DRAMATICALLY after the service person showed up 25 minutes late to the appointment. For 30 minutes of work it cost $423. That is an outrageous fee for the amount of work performed. When I called and talked with the manager to complain about their prices and customer service they emailed a video recording of my voice and thought that gave them an out. I have alerted many people to less than honorable practices and will make it a point to mention their poor customer service at any chance I get. I would not give them any stars for service but that is not an option on this review.
Shortly after I posted this review...I got this response from Lighten Up. Shows their consistent level of customer service....
Guess Lighten Up Electric and Plumbing didn't like my opinion about their service. Here is the lovely email I just got from them. Nice huh?

Update on 4/3/2015: This issue has been resolved. Jan has issued a full refund. Thank you!
Lighten Up Electric & Plumbing of Windsor, CO, appears to have serious problems with customer accessibility after hours (weekend)- this is not acceptable for a company specializing in plumbing and electrical work! I DO NOT recommend using this company.
The problem centers on an over-reliance on a 3rd party Call Center which (understandably) has no ability to do anything but relay messages to Lighten Up's representative. In my case, the company's rep was ""Jan"" - who presumably is either the Dispatcher or Owner/Operator, although she never identifies herself as either. Unfortunately, ""Jan"" does not return calls in a timely manner, and her separate phone number is also routed to the same Call Center. The Call Center (again, understandably) has multiple clients and multiple people answering Lighten Ups number(s), but in my case, they did not share or retain information from me. This was frustrating after having to answer literally 20 questions from the initial call, at which time I thought (erroneously) someone was ""opening a ticket"" or creating a file for my problem. None of that was apparently happening.
THE SPECIFICS: My first call went directly to a Call Center at 4:30pm on Friday, 31 Oct, although I used Lighten Up's primary phone number listed in the Yellow Pages. I requested service for first thing the following morning since I had to go to the airport that night. The call center operator told me ""the (Lighten Up) Dispatcher would call me 30 minutes prior to the Technician's arrival tomorrow morning"", it would be ""$139 for the Technician's visit with all equipment on the truck"", and ""the phone call would probably be before 8am Saturday"". I answered her 20 questions (name, address, phone nbr, email, how old is the house, etc) and hung up thinking my plumbing problem was adequately addressed. Someone named ""Jan"" called me back and left a message to call her on a different number. I called back at 5:30pm Fri and was routed back to the same call center. I told the call center rep to tell ""Jan"" I had called back. By Sat morning at 9:30am, no one had called me. I called ""Jan""'s number from my cell log and got routed yet again to the call center. I got a new operator this time who had no record of me, so I explained the situation again. The new call center rep apologized and said the Dispatcher would call me. Two hours later (11:30am Sat), the Dispatcher still had not called me, so I called back and, of course was routed again to the Call Center, who once again apologized. After I expressed my dissatisfaction to the call center rep and asked them to relay that to ""Jan"", Jan left me another message an hour later to call her; when I did -- yep, it went to the Call Center again. When I asked to speak to ""Jan"", yet another call center rep said ""Jan was not available.""
At this point, with half of Saturday wasted and no resolution to my plumbing problem, I went with another company -- and talked to a Technician immediately.
As a business owner myself, here are some suggestions for Lighten Up: 1) if your primary company number listed in the Yellow Pages advertisement is a Call Center - say so! 2) If you ask people to call your company rep back on a separate ""direct"" or ""private"" line, do not then forward that line to the Call Center too. 3) if an actual Dispatcher, Technician, or Owner/Operator can not be available on Fri at 4:30pm on a Friday, or during an entire Saturday morning, then hire more of those people, or do not claim to be available for hire on off-hours as your Yellow Pages ad states. 4) it is the hallmark of customer service that after the initial call by a potential customer, it is the company's responsibility to make the next contact. Lighten Up should have continued to call me until contact was made - not the other way around, and particularly not have me go through Call Center reps each time. 5) if the Call Center is not empowered to talk directly to a Technician, make that clear to the customer. Seven calls to explain the problem is not reasonable for any customer - particularly one with a plumbing problem! Finally, 6) if the Call Center you are using is not an extension of your company - get a new Call Center.
BOTTOMLINE: For Lighten Up: you're either open for business on Sat or not! Since you're obviously not, then say so in your advertising. Don't waste a potential customer's time. Your advertising is at best misleading.
