We had a brand new air conditioning/heating unit installed about 8 years ago by Liberty for $5,200. The unit worked fine for about 6 years, but then the compressor died. Liberty came out and installed a new compressor for $2,100 with the manufacturer warranty. After 2 years, the new compressor died. We called Liberty to see what they could do to help. They basically told us that they were not going to eat the cost of their mistake. We didn't appreciate the response we got from Liberty and decided to call someone else. The new company installed a brand new air conditioning unit, which was supposed to be $4,800, and found out that a specific component called the 'drier filter' was not replaced for a long time. They said that if this unit is not replaced, it can cause debris in the line that could damage the compressor. This sounds like exactly what happened, possibly twice. With repairs to part of the line from the damage that was done from the previous two compressors failing, we had to pay another $650, on top of the $4,800 to the new company. We also now have to worry that there may be further repairs needed to the rest of the line, if there is still debris. We know Liberty did not replace the drier filter the last time they changed out the compressor, and we're not sure they did when they installed the new unit 8 years ago. We are very upset about how unprofessional they have been with us. We've spent thousands of dollars with them to get mediocre service and this has hit us hard financially. We're never doing business with them again and we would warn others against it too. We're considering complaining to the BBB about them as well.

I have a total of 7 rental properties plus my own home and I have struggled over the years to find a competent and fair HVAC contractor - but I have finally found them.

I had Liberty install a new unit a little over one year ago, but in this recent heat wave, it quit working. Upon calling them out, they noticed that the freon had leaked out of a connection that was not fitting just right (possibly a manufacturing issue). While I offered to split the cost of the repair and new freon, the owner said ""No - I am not going to do that"" (and I immediately was preparing for a fight), and then he followed up with ""I am a consumer too - and we just need to stand behind this and get it fixed for you at no charge""

A few days later he was true to his word - and as a consumer - I REALLY APPRECIATE HIM UNDERSTANDING MY POSITION!

I scheduled Liberty through the Angi service. I needed a clogged drain in my kitchen cleared and also HVAC maintenance. They quoted a minimum charge of $199 for the drain, that's a little rich since other quotes started at $69. I passed on this service but made an appointment for the HVAC. I was given a service window between 10 AM - 2 PM. No one called, texted, or showed up. I called and canceled the appointment. A total waste of time.

I'm really disappointed. The plumber came out immediately to help us, big plus. However he didn't fully clean the pipe in the shower and more we have minimal water pressure. He is trying to say it's from our shower heads but there was no problem prior to his repair with the pressure. Not sure how this is going to wind up but he wants to charge us to remove the handle again even though my husband has checked everything he suggested.

Our shower valve needed to be replaced suddenly on a Saturday afternoon and a neighbor referred us to Steve. He came over immediately and replaced the valve. He did an amazing job and truly a wonderful man and the cost was very reasonable! GREAT COMPANY and we will be using him for all plumbing, heating and cooling needs from now on.

We've used Liberty for a few years now, and they've always been great. They respond quickly to phone calls. They're pricing is very competitive. I've had them at my house for an emergency in the middle of the night.
Excellent old fashioned family owned small business.

** UPDATE**
Within hours of posting my review below I was contacted by the owner Jerry. Jerry was extremely professional and apologized for the situation that happened. Jerry never disagreed with the review and actually said that he would have been upset if he was in my shoes. Jerry never asked for an update on the review but due to his absolute sincerity and professionalism I felt it was important to update the review. After talking to Jerry we would give them another chance. Jerry assured me that this mistake won't happen again and it was a lack of training that will be corrected. I fully accept the apology and truly do believe that it was a lack of training and not a dishonest act.

**ORIGINAL POST**
Most dishonest company I have ever dealt with. I was at work for a week and the toilet in my kid's bathroom got clogged with a toy. My wife, who was 38 weeks pregnant, tried the plunger and a snake but wasn't able to unclog the toilet. Since I was going to be gone for awhile we called Liberty plumbing to fix the issue.
My wife was home, pregnant and with 2 young kids, and said he came in and tried to snake the toilet for 10 minutes and then came downstairs and said he wasn't going to be able to do it and that we need to replace the toilet. He said he would provide a new toilet and install the toilet for $725, or if we wanted to buy the toilet ourselves he would install it for $300.
For reference, a new toilet costs $150...not $425. Also, installing a toilet takes 15-20 minutes max.
We did not use his service and instead when I got home I took the toilet off, snaked it from the other end and unclogged the toilet in about 20 seconds. I replaced the seal for $15 and reinstalled my toilet in 15 minutes. So what a ""professional plumber said was a $725 cost me, not a plumber, $15 to complete.
This person attempted to take advantage of a pregnant woman with 2 young children. This is by far the worst thing I could ever imagine a company doing... I would give zero stars if I could and definitely urge anyone looking for a plumber to look elsewhere and get someone honest.

We looked at 4 companies to replace our very old, leaking water heater with a tankless unit:
- A company that advertises on TV
- A company sent by one of the large hardware store chains
- A larger local company
- Liberty PHA. They are not really local to my home in northern San Diego County, but came highly recommended by a co-worker.

Liberty PHA quoted us the best price, and was also able to schedule us in earlier than anyone else (a Saturday morning, no less). It's a small enough company that Jerry, the owner, still gets on the phone and answers customer questions. Steve and Jake, the technicians who did the estimate and the install, were polite, easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and took great pride in their work.

They were in and done in under 4 hours. No surprises, and they left the work area clean. The Navien NPE-240S2 works like a charm so far. We've only been running since noon, but we've done a load of laundry, run the dishwasher, and took 4 showers (2 while the dishwasher was going), and the hot water never slowed down.

I would definitely recommend Liberty PHA. I understand why my co-worker thought so highly of them, and will likely use them for my future plumbing needs.
