I had used Jay in the past at my own home, so I THOUGHT that I could trust him. Recently, I needed emergency help for my rental house and called him immediately. He responded right away and promised to do a good job and follow what is REQUIRED PER CALIFORNIA CODE---BUT HE ACTUALLY DROPPED THE BALL. After I paid over $2200, I find out that HE DID NOT EVEN STRAP THE HOT WATER HEATER TO THE WALL - WHICH IS REQUIRED PER CALIF. STATE LAW.
I am thoroughly disappointed to say the least. I contacted him and requested that he make things right. I am still waiting to hear from him......
--Update, so his story was that HIS APPRENTICE FORGOT to install the straps. I think he should have followed up on that major detail himself since it is required by state law. He didn't even take responsibility for not making sure that important detail was completed, nor did he apologize. I had accepted his excuse and we agreed he would come back to install new straps. It has been 6 days now, but he has not taken care of this yet and now that he has noticed my poor review on here he has created a reply that says something completely different from what he told me.
---I was actually willing to overlook this and give him more work that I need done, but that remains to be seen.....
--Update, He apparently finished the install of straps finally after 9 days or so, because he had been ill, which is understandable.
***But then I was actually down and out with a two day migraine and unaware that he had completed the work at my rental house. So, because I had not had the chance to change my review quickly enough for him, he then thought that it would be a smart business move to send me an extremely OBNOXIOUS TEXT --when he should have simply been polite and let me know that he had finished the details and apologize about not getting it done in the first place. I am absolutely shocked!! So, I will definitely NOT BE RECOMMENDING HIS BUSINESS BECAUSE HOW YOU TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS IS KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS JAY !!!

I don't give out reviews often, let alone 5 star reviews but trust me they deserve it! We hired Lead and Oakum Plumbing after our hot water heater broke. We had a power vent water heater, which I now know are incredibly expensive. We called over 5 different plumbers to come look at it and quote us to either fix it or replace it. The ultimate consensus was that it needed to be replaced. The prices to get a new power vent were like I said, incredibly expensive! It made more sense to just go tankless. Every plumber that came out quoted us a price above 7k. But then Jay came out and explained the entire situation and process in a way that I could understand and quoted me the best price I'd heard since the beginning of the entire debacle. The work was done fast, efficiently and neat! I will be using them again in the future!

Jay installed a tankless water heater outside our house. The price was absolutely right and Jay and his assistant were courteous, on-time and professional. They came back and flushed the tank for us six months later at no charge. Great guys and we'll use them again, I'm sure.

I have a couple restaurants in downtown san Diego and we've been using Lead & Oakum since their founding.
Every experience with them has been pleasant, profesional and we know we've been treated respectfully and fairly. Jay and his partner makes us feel that our job is important to them and they take the time to really listen to our description of the problem and will come in and make sure the right tech is sent to the restaurant to complete the job. If you are looking for a company that cares and treats you fairly, stop looking for the right price. Look for who's going to treat you fairly, price you correctly, and get the job done once and for all. You won't be disappointed.

I met these guys when they helped out as part of a full bathroom renovation. We then called them up to install an outdoor shower on our patio, and we needed the work done quickly. They came right out, figured out a plan, and got it done. They did excellent work and even added some stylistic touches that really went above and beyond.
