So, I'm moving into a former crack den. Needless to say, it needs a LOT of work, including adding a kitchen, because there isn't one. Yup, no kitchen at all ~ they turned it into a bedroom and put the kitchen in the living room, go figure.

Anyway, wall space is precious in an old house, particularly in your kitchen. Particularly when you have purchased a kitchen off of Craig's list that is too big for it's destination. In my defense, it was a really cool kitchen and it was really cheap...but I digress. To make it fit, I needed to swap a radiator from my kitchen with a smaller one from my dining room to create more wall space, and I needed it done fast. Enter Shane from Lakeshore Plumbing, aka, my new plumbing hero!

One of my neighbors suggested him and he was, miraculously, available the very next day. Have you ever dealt with really, really, old plumbing? Let's just say that it can be a bit ""quirky."" In layman's terms, that means wildly unpredictable and almost certainly filthy with unseen problems. My seemingly simple radiator swap was no exception - 12 hours and two trips to Home Depot later, Shane rescued my grand kitchen scheme by swapping radiators and ensuring they worked. TWELVE hours in a filthy, dirty, disgusting, germ laden pit. Cheerfully, no less. Not only that, but he showed me how my boiler worked, explained how the radiators functioned, taught me how to drain my system in case of an emergency, pointed out some other potential problems to keep an eye on, checked to make sure all of my other radiators were working properly AND came in under his estimate for the work. Also, when my husband and friend were laughing at my paint choices and mocking my painting skills, he kindly refrained from joining in on the free for all and told me he liked the colors I had selected.

I know my crack house is going to need more plumbing -a lot more of it. Drug addicts and vagrants aren't known for maintaining the plumbing in their crash pads, after all. Therefore, I will always and, without hesitation, call Shane and Lakeshore Plumbing ~ honest, fast, dedicated and very competitively priced. Bonus points for the awesome Irish accents and great attitudes in utterly loathsome working conditions.
