We contacted La Place Plumbing to have a back up sump pump installed in our new house. When we first talked to him, he said he'd call and set up a time to come over. Instead, he just showed up at the house one day. Luckily, I happened to be home. He went into the basement to assess the situation. He removed the tape from the old unit to test it, and discovered that it definitely didn't work. He then left the live wires on the basement floor. He then went out to figure out a price. He gave me a price, and I accepted it and authorized them to come install the pump. He told me told me they had the item and that if he had someone available, they could come the next day. I told them that would work since I'd be home. He said he would let me know for sure. I never heard from him, so I left the house for 1 hour the next day. They showed up during that time. Subsequently, they left a message for my husband that I knew they were coming and I just wasn't there. Completely untrue. We have traded phone calls with his office over the past week and a half, playing phone tag. Today, he left us a message that since he never heard from us that he would be charging us a 15% restocking fee, and that if we still wanted him to install the pump, he'd need to recoup the 1 hour of his tech's time for showing up here. I let him know that this approach probably wasn't a good one considering service businesses are built on referrals. He continued to argue with me that I knew they were coming, and that he didn't care to work with people who wanted to bicker, told me to have a nice day and hung up. It's sad in this day and age that customers are treated this way. I'm sure there are many plumbers in the market who are willing to do what they say and make customers happy. Steer clear for sure!
