I recently used L J Foley Plumbing to install a toilet, a sink, a faucet and to caulk a shower. The total bill was $919.45 They indicated they charged by the hour, but they failed to tell me that included an arbitrary travel charge, which they determine at their own discretion. They charged me for 2 hours worth of work to caulk a shower which resulted in over $240 charges - just to caulk a shower, which realistically took about 15 minutes. The travel time from their office to my house was 13 minutes, however they charged for an hour. I would never use this company again, and I would encourage anyone considering using them to think twice, unless you are ok with someone making up charges they fail to disclose based on how much they want to pad the expenses for ""travel time"". Very misleading.
Katie Z.What a terrible company. HSA sent this company out to ""fix"" a clogged sink, which did not happen. I had to pay an $80 deductible. Foley sent out ONE guy with a drain snake and he was running late so I ended up stuck in my house all day waiting for a morning appointment. He ran a drain snake then tried to claim that he was pulling roots out of my pipes and the clog was exterior. Since his diagnosis was an exterior clog (and he told me to call another company with better equipment because it was not something he could not fix!!) HSA would not cover the repair and my sink was left still backed up.
In comes Roto-Rooter with a drain snake. They unclogged my drain and told me there were multiple interior clogs they removed. What Foley said was roots was actually hair. Roto-Rooter did not run anything outside so the clog was clearly interior. Oh, and HSA ended up paying the bill after I argued with them and filed a claim because interior clogs ARE covered by my home warranty!! Thanks for the waste of time, Foley.
C P.Our Unico HVAC system went out after 20 years of service and we had to get an estimate for a new one. If you have a UNICO system, make sure you find a vendor that handles Unico, since most HVAC companies do not work with This system. A $100 mistake, since we called a high ranking company initially, that did not work with UNICO.
Foley was the only company out of the 4 companies, with UNICO experience, that came to our house and made us pay for a service charge ($250). No service rendered except to tell us that our system is broke (duh) and to gather information for a proposal. Apparently we could get our $250 back as a credit if we go with their company. Well, they ended up quoting us $5,000 more than the company we are choosing, which specializes in UNICO systems. They are also providing us with MORE work/services than Foley.
My recommendation is, do not call these guys unless they are your ONLY option. Luckily, there are quite a few UNICO options in the Alexandria area because UNICO is perfect for older homes with tighter spaces.
The absolute worst people I have ever had to deal with. They had worked on my 84 yr old parents heating system in the dead of winter and broke it. They ordered a part, said it would be in the next day (friday). It did come in however they said it took 3 hours to put in, and that they would have to do it on Monday because if it may take a little longer and they don't work past 3, it was 12 noon. I told them that my parent could not survive without heat for 3 days. The owner told me it was not his problem. I explained that I would pay extra for the job to be done. He said NO. The owner is the ruddest person with no customer service skills what so ever. Not only that they do a terrible job at the same time.
Beth T.Terrible and a rip off! Charged my Mother for rental of a saw that they broke on the job. Never use them!!!! $1300 for a toliet! Have some compassion. She is a window and 80 years old with no income. Shame on you Foley!
I am delighted with this company. They are helpful, do honest work for an honest price, and are great to deal with. If you have an emergency, they are great at getting there and making repairs.
I have used Foley for both warranty work and for non-warranty work. They have been excellent each and every time.
Stinky C.Think long and hard before you let this plumbing company come to your house, especially if you didn't choose them and they are sent by you warranty people e.g. HSA.
Our experience. I'm no mug on house maintenance, so I told both the HSA rep and the Foley Plumbing contact the following.
The kitchen sink was not not draining, the garbage disposal was functioning perfectly. I dismantled the P trap and wormed as far as I could. The problem persisted, so I knew the blockage was out of my worm range. This information I passed on.
So how would rate the plumber that turns up with NO WORKING SNAKE!
It took 31 hours from the call being placed to the plumber turning up, and he doesn't have the tools we said it would need.
THEN he charged us the $75 deductible on the plan for looking at a problem I would not have called out in isolation. The simple task of repairing the sink plunger/stopper on a bathroom sink.
PLUS he added $60 to the bill for parts??
The only part he could have used is the metal strip connecting the plunger rod to the arm of the mechanism in the pipe. $5 at Homedepot.
I will leave you to judge their level of intelligence and credibility.
If you have to let them in, check every last detail. Especially on your bill.
Cooley Services provided the heating and cooling system for the house we had built by Westco in 2011. The owner and the person we worked with is Frank Foley. The company is listed on the internet with a website for L.J. Foley Plumbing and Heating, so we believe that L.J. Foley is the same company.
There were numerous problems with the heating and cooling system, which needed to be resolved. They installed the heat exhaust too close to the output for the dryer, which by security code had to be fixed. The system created undue noise, which had to be fixed.
This year, there was a problem with the condensation pan. It turns out that the maker of the furnace had had a recall on that part. Cooley/Foley did not tell us about this recall. The furnace went out on a cold Friday night. We called all the numbers for Cooley and Foley but no one called us back. We then called TLK, who came out within the hour and got the unit operating again. However, TLK told us we should work through the company that had installed the furnace (Colley/Foley) in order to take advantage of the warranty.
I talked with Frank Foley, who discussed at length that he had not been paid in full for his work on our house. He acknowledged that his contract was with Westco Construction, not with my husband and myself, and that he had provided our lawyer with a waiver stating that he had received all due monies from us. Westco also provided our lawyer with such a waiver. My position is that Cooley/Foley is still responsible for letting us know about warranties and for fixing problems.
Mr. Foley said he would send someone out to replace the pan on the unit. He said it would take two people a day each to fix the pan. In the meantime, TKC told us that that the furnace manufacturer had contracted with a company to replace these pans, and provided us with the contact information. The company contracted by the furnace manufacturer completed the work in a few minutes at no charge to us.
By the way, we also wrote a review for TKC--giving them an A.
Jay P.Always EXCELLENT service and SUPERIOR response time, not to mention great quality work. We have a 50-year-old home, with 50-year-old infrastructure (boiler, radiator), and they have been life savers (well, heat savers). They are fantastic.
I needed a plumber for two basic things in the house. Called Foley based on a recommendation from a neighbor who highly recommended them. Well, I was NOT impressed in the least bit. Foley sent two guys to my house for two very simple issues. The first issue was to replace a toilet flapper. The part was $5.50 and took the guy less than 2 minutes to put in - yet I was charged a total of $90.50 for this! You have to be kidding me??!!!! I realize many businesses have an hourly minimum. But it would have been nice to have been told when I made the appointment.
The second issue was to fix a leaking faucet. The guy tried for about 2 minutes to get the faucet off, said he couldn't and they left. They both acted like they were in a huge hurry to get their weekend started so they couldn't be bothered with me. Told me the office would have to get me an estimate for replacing the entire faucet. I have yet to see an estimate or get a call on this at all. Of course my bill showed up right away though. I won't use them again for sure.
