Plumbing for Homes and Businesses, Sewer and Drain Services, Steam and Hot Water Heating
Kuhn Plumbing and Heating is one of the most established family-owned plumbing, heating, and sewer businesses in Chicago. Since its inception in 1908, Kuhn Plumbing has provided services in Chicago under the leadership of the Kuhn family and plumbing expert Edward T. Kuhn. In 2005, loyal team members Timothy, Daniel, and Patrick Kane formed Kane Family Plumbing Corporation to carry on the Kuhn Plumbing legacy. Even as ownership has changed over the decades, our tradition of service has endured.
Timothy Kane is a licensed and insured plumber who has been with Kuhn Plumbing since February 1977. He went through a four-year apprenticeship and licensing program via Local 130 and has accumulated over 30 years of field experience. Through this experience, Timothy gained extensive knowledge of Chicago's plumbing systems before taking on plumbing contractor duties in 2006.

Called to have a simple faucet repair...they came out...fixed it and then a few days later the faucet needed same repair! They are very expensive and don't stand behind their work. BEWARE!!!

I had Kuhn plumbing come to my condo in Lakeview in May 2015 to swap out a basket strainer & pipe under my kitchen sink. The were there for a total of 50 minutes. The cost of their service fee for 50 minutes? $275!!!! What a joke.
As people have mentioned below, they are professional & timely, but their pricing is absurd. Talk about not caring about the consumer. Kuhn Plumbing for me in the future? NEVER again........

I contacted Kuhn to replace a leaky/frozen water spigot on an old house. My landlord is an old Polish lady that doesn't communicate well in English sometimes.

One guy came out the first day (for around 3 hours?) and thawed out the pipe. He said that since it was an old house and the pipe went into the wall about 12 inches, he needed to access the pipe from the inside to change it out.

I will admit that the other side of that wall is a kitchen cabinet, and it wouldn't be that easy to get to. ****

He comes back the next day with another guy. They cut an access hole through my cabinet and into my wall to get to the pipe. It is fixed in less than 4 hours.

The bill comes. $120 per for guy #1 and $174 per hour for guy #2. Yes, that is a combined $294 per hour for 2 plumbers to change a water spigot. The total bill was over $1400. Over $1400 to change a part that couldn't cost more than $80.

I will say that the quality of work is fine - I just think $1400+ is a little much for that type of job. The job was only about 0.2 miles from their office - and this is an old lady on a fixed income. I feel bad for setting her up with them.

I have used Kuhn a few times in the last year since moving to Chicago last summer. They did good work, but I thought their prices were high.
Last month they came out to replace a seal on a leaky toilet and they charged my wife $380 after the plumber spent 15 minutes in the house replacing a $10 seal. $380 is what most plumbers charge for installing a new toilet.
They also quoted us $7200 to replace a couple of 65 gallon hot water heaters. After shopping around, I found a highly rated local plumber who quoted us just over $3000 to install the same units.
Can you spell...ripoff.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!!!!!!

Kuhn is not a bad plumbing company. They do good work. The problem I experienced was with their prices and billing. I have worked with enough plumbers to understand that plumbers are not cheap. I know that parts are marked up. The hourly rate, number of hours billed for the work done, and the amount of mark up for the parts was absurd. I was became frustrated also with the billing experience due to a warranty issue and bad communication.

I recently used Kuhn plumbing to fix my dripping shower and slow running toilet. James was great! He was kind, worked clean, and fixed my problems. He was also very thorough as he pointed out that my toilet was not bolted to the floor correctly and fixed that too. I am very happy with the work they did and I will use them again.

Recently I had a problem with my sump pump battery backup and I called the folks at Kuhn and they made a number of trips to my house to try and diagnose the problem. It turns out the backup unit had be sent to the manufacturer for warranty work. Tim from Kuhn was in constant contact with me as well as the manufacturer to see when it will be done. He was very consistant with his messages to me as well as VERY firm with the manufacturer in that their delay was impacting HIS customer.

Today, with the expected thaw from all the snow we received, there was a power outage at my house. I called TIm from Kuhn and told him of my situation and within 1 hour, he had somebody at my house with a replacement battery backup unit, even though my original unit was still being repaired. This is excellent service given the fact that he had many calls for busted pipes due to the reccent cold snap.

I have used Kuhn for other project at my house and found them to be knowledgable and extremely straightforward with what they recommend. I can call them and know the job will be handled with no corners cut and in a way that give me peace of mind.

I would trust Kuhn with any plumbing job in my house, large or small. Call Kuhn Plumbing with confidence!!

This spring, when Chicago had one of those big storms, we had some water coming into our basement through exterior wall because the outside trap in the gangway was flowing ""out"", up into the gangway, (and then over our / through our old basement walls - some of this not a plumbing problem.) My neighbor's suggestion was Kuhn's Plumbing, whom we had used on and off for 35 years. They came at 10:30 at night, did a really huge rodding job in the rain outside, cleared the problem, and advised us that it actually came from the neighbor's plumbing pipest out to the city's pipes; they contacted the neighbor, and were back in the morning - and stayed till the job was complete. Six months later, so far, several rainstorms since, no problems. (I did not pay, so I cannot comment on price; but I would have paid almost anything for a job done properly under those circumstances.)

I am not at all satisfied with the performance of this business. The plumber had to come back twice to get the job finished. The man was here for eight hours. When I questioned the bill they told my he didn't stop for lunch. Sure. I was told what the cost per hour was, but then the shop sent a helper along with the plumber, and I had to pay extra for that guy. The rates are very high. I don't think my physician gets that much. If Kuhn was the last plumber on earth, I wouldn't call them. Don't you do it either.
