Kevin Shaw Plumbing has just become THE plumber fro my home. I was recommended to his company by a contractor who had installed a tankless water heater in my house and we had done two quick repairs to it when it got fussy. Which they do. My contractor said I should get Kevin to do a maintenance on it so I had a connection with him. Well he sent one of his best guys (Jeff) and an assistant-- but that night there was no hot water! I called in a bit of a panic. The next morning I got this at 7AM:
Jeffrey is on his way.
Bio:
Jeffrey came to Kevin Shaw Plumbing, Inc. in 1999 as a Gulf War veteran in the United States Marines with training as a mechanic. Jeff started as a plumbing apprentice and attended the PHCC trade school for 3 years, graduating at the top of his class in 2003. Jeff carries certifications in WIRSBO, Wardflex and TRACPIPE products and Rinnai & Eternal water heaters. He has received training with Nexstar Network and is OHSA trained & certified for site safety procedures. Jeff is committed to providing only the best, most comprehensive solutions for his customers. He takes pride in his work and shares our commitment to excellence. Jeff is married to Kirsten and has a daughter Bailey and two sons, Samuel and Lance. When he's not on call, he loves to spend time with his family or on his dirt bike.

Well. Jeff is a man that I aspire to be like. He hadn't slept all night because the job wasn't done (turns out it was a minor key left unturned that his assistant in training didn't know to readjust) so the hot water ran out and the fussy machine refused to turn on. He walked me through and we talked and the quality of his care was unparalleled. I called Kevin to thank him and asked if Jeff could do all our plumbing from now on.
The bio says a lot. But Jeff was better than his bio. I'm now a Kevin Shaw Plumbing house.

Verry Dissappointed. We called this company to fix a major plumbing issue. They came out and only fixed part of the problem. When we asked them if their work was warrantied and could they come and double check it. They said yes. They charged me to come out and look at their own work. Then they quoted me to fix the same pipe we asked them to originally fix. When we asked them why they didn't fix the whole pipe to begin with the reply was that we didn't tell them to. They were the experts, we called them out to repair the problem, the whole problem. The service guy said If we thought they were just going to keep coming out here and not charge us we better think again. Very Rude and un-professional. We are a business with a budget, we have to get more than one quote and chose the best one for our needs. It just so happens that theirs are always higher. I received a call from the office manager and she was a little rude in the beginning over the phone but she did apologize for the comment her service man made and she did explain their business practice. We will no longer use their service, they were rude, unprofessional and overpriced.

Charged us $3600 to install a 40 gallon water heater. It wasn't an emergency. I got taken. I should know better next time. Read other reviews.

I called Drain Master Plumbing and they sent this guy to me. I asked to have my kitchen drain snaked and they quoted me $99. This guy shows up and jacks it up to $250+. I decided to cancel and eat his trip fee. Glad I did because I sound another honest plumber at Any Drain Plumbing who did a great job for about as much is this guy's trip fee. Beware - shop around.

Today a Kevin Shaw technician (Jeffrey) came to my house for a ""free estimate"". He wanted $475 to change a thermocouple on a water heater which a Lowe's recommended company wanted $169. It is a job which will probably take 20 minutes at best. When I asked him why it cost so much, he said that was what his computer said. I asked him to leave. He would not leave my garage unless I pay him $41 for his trip. I told him I was told me the estimate was free when I called to make an appointment. I asked him to call his company I talked to the owner Kevin, who told me they don't give free estimate. He still would not leave unless I pay him the money. I called 911. He left when he heard me talking to the police. The same thing happened to my wife when she was single. She was so intimated my this big guy and she paid him for the trip. These bullies prey on innocent consumers who are not strong enough to stand up to them. They are making a good living by either charging 3-4 times the going rate or $41 for just making the trip if you refuse their service. If you do business with Kevin Shaw Plumbing you are inviting these bullies to rob you one way or another. Beware of these people out there.

Called Kevin to get an estimate for my two Rinnai water heaters at my business. His quote was for $12,595!!!! He wanted to install 2 new Navien systems, condensation collectors, blah blah.. Well, I asked for a quote to repair, not replace. And beyond that, it costed me around $250 just to have him come look at it.
The kicker...I called a different repairman to check the problem out, and it was only a few hundred dollars. It only needed to be cleaned thoroughly (not replaced entirely), and the water heater works perfectly (it should, its only 2 years old).

I wanted to get a quote on water heater, I call few plumber that were close to my area and this is the only plumber that will charge me to get a quote. Most people call it as ""the cost of business"", they might call it ""the cost for customer"". I check them out here and good thing I did not ""Pay"" them to get a quote.

Six months ago we bought a wonderful 100 year-old Craftsman home in the Historic Bungalow District of Pasadena. It has great bones and beauty and charm; but we knew (from the inspection report and our own general contractors) its plumbing would need some updating--we hoped later, rather than sooner.
As it has turned out, we've needed three visits to take care of a major re-plumbing job as well as two smaller ones. In each case the technicians were prompt, knowledgeable and fair in their pricing and let me know up front what the problem was (best/worst case scenario), walked me through the repair, showed me the parts needing replacement, etc. and have completed the work beautifully--even helping me figure out temporary but serviceable solutions until we could afford to open a wall to completely replace the shower/tub plumbing.
I especially appreciated their prompt response to a 'flood' in my downstairs bathroom stemming from a broken pipe in the wall leading to the sink. They listed me as an emergency with possible damage and sent Jose out within half an hour. Without any reminder, he pulled out his shoe covers and after surveying the situation and explaining the possible causes (including what turned out to be a broken interior pipe), he set to work. When the ""flood"" in one bathroom due to a broken pipe to the sink had been repaired, I headed in with my wide bucket and mop, expecting quite a clean up job--but found the floor clean and dry with towels I'd used as barriers to protect my new hardwood floors placed in the tub.
We haven't found any similarity to the negative reviews; so we will continue to use Kevin Shaw Plumbing and recommend them to others!

It's True ... A bit pricey, but ...
As a first-time customer, our initial consumer experience with Kevin Shaw Plumbing, Inc. was nothing but exceptional. My wife and I were so highly impressed with their ""old school"" business values and strong emphasis in putting the customer first, and equally important to us, being completely honest and up-front (re: no hidden cost or fees, or unexpected additional charges) concerning every aspect in installing our Rinnai tankless water heater (Model RU98i). Moreover, even when their own hired independent sub-contractors (re: dry-waller and electrician) created some job-related ""over-charging"" cost issues with us, and when informed about it, Kevin Shaw's people immediately and unexpectedly compensated us even though legally and ethically were not obligated to do so.
Lastly, further kudos especially goes to their sales representative and installation technician, Jose Flores. Jose, along with fellow co-worker Jeff, accomplished together the entire involved installation project proficiently and in a timely manner. Both guys were very professional, highly competent, and most diligent in doing the job right.
Retired from the military, my wife and I are presently extensively renovating our home's garden landscape (making it beautiful and senior-friendly) while further up-grading and renovating our final abode (a 1940's style house). Needless-to-say, we've dealt with many contractors with varying disappointment and limited success. It is so refreshing to find a contractor today like Kevin Shaw Plumbing Company that is definitely a cut-above-the-rest and anomaly throw-back to yesteryear when the majority of building and service contractors were typically honest, realistically priced, and truly customer-oriented. As long as this impressive company continues to stay true to such regarded ""old fashion"" business practices and principles, my wife and I will always highly recommend them.

The work was performed fine and the repairman was polite and professional. However, their pricing is exorbitant and I have issues with the ethics of the company. After the repairman arrived, he gave me two choices, pay an outrageous amount to fix the issue or pay $41.00 service charge for coming out. It was late in the day and I knew I would not be able to get anyone else to come out to fix the problem. They knew I was in a pickle and took full advantage of that fact. I don't recommend this company.
