I began my plumbing career as an apprentice in Culver City, California in 1972. In 1977, I launched my own plumbing business in Marina Del Rey, California, focusing primarily on new construction. I shut down that company in 1978 and moved to Palm Springs, California. I began working at Barrett Plumbing, a well-known plumbing company in the valley back then. I continued there until 1980, when I made the decision to start my own business again. On this occasion, I partnered with Chuck Barrett, the grandson of the owner of Barrett Plumbing. This is how we decided on the name KC's 23 1/2 Hour Plumbing. In 1980, I acquired Chuck's share, and KC's 23 1/2 Hour Plumbing has been serving the Valley since.

For more than 30 years, we have been dedicated to our clients. I have always preferred service and repair over new construction. I take pleasure in connecting with my clients, making them feel like family.

I have a shower drain in the guest bathroom that pushes the water up into the master bathroom tub. I had the drain root rootered but it did not solve the problem and was recommended that I have a camera review to pinpoint the problem. I called KC Plumbing after a neighbor of mine had some work done by the company. I called KC Plumbing and was told that they could mot tell me how much a camera review would be withiut a plumber checking the problem, so I set up an appointment for the following week, 7 days later, at 11:00am. On the day of this appointment, 11:00am came and went and no one showed or called. I called and was advised that one of their plumbers had gotten called out and now my appointment was between 2:00 - 4:00pm and could I again explain why I was calling. I told them the problem and that I was interested in having a camera review. At approximately 2:00pm I received a call from one of their plumbers and asked if I wanted to now what the estimate was for the camera review. I told him no, I needed him to come out and check the problem and after discussing we would decide what could be done to solve the problem. He sounded quite upset that I was having him come out, but said he would come. He did come and looked at the drains, without any other type of checking, and told me that the traps 10 feet below needed to be replaced. I began asking questions abut his diagnosis and a camera review. He kept cutting my questions off and continued about the traps needing replacement, the tile needed to be broken and digging down to the traps. I again attempted to ask him about a camera review and he rudely told me that the company was not in the business of doing camera reviews and all the experience he has had that leads him to believe that the trap needs to be replaced. I started to ask him about what this all entailed when he cut me off again and told me that he could not guarantee that replacement of the traps would solve my problem and that there may other pipes needing replacement. When I again started to ask a question, he of curse cut me off and wanted to continue on his ranting of the trap. ,I became upset and rudely asked him "" Why are you do g this to me?"" He then became indignant and said, ""I'm leaving."" And walked out the door. When I asked him to stay until I called KC Plumbing's office, he told me that he didn't have time for this and left. I called KC Plumbing's office and all they could do was apologize and trred to setup an appointment with another plumber. I asked for the owner's name and they were hesitant to give me his name until I told them that I could get it from their license. They gave me the name of Kelly Russum and told me that he could not be reached as he was seldomly in the office. I asked that a message be taken and to have him call me back. We'll see if he calls back....but I wager HE WILL NOT!!!

I had an emergency leak on my hot water heater. I was unable to locate or recall the company that installed the heater 3 years before. I called KC and their customer service was extraordinary. It was late in the day and thy were down i technician, but Tins ssid they would do ll they could to come that evening. In the interim, concerned about all the water leaking I phoned another company who was able to send someone. However I then got a Call from KC with the promise they WOULD come in 2 hours. Unfortunately it was too late, But I most certainly would call KC first for my plumbing needs.

I have used KC's Plumbing for about 8 years and as of today I WILL NEVER USE/OR RECOMMEND THEM AGAIN!
I called KC's to install a part (I had purchased) in a toilet and to stop a water leak in the tank. Scott a very pleasant technician arrived and gave me a quote of $168.00! I refused his offer and asked how he arrived at this price and he indicated that he was quoting from KC's price list/guide.
I called their office to resign as a member of their ""Diamond Club"" and they suggested that they could send out another technician. I asked what good that would do if Scott had been quoting from their price guide?
I now see why prior Yelp derogatory comments were written.

Great Service!! Robert came out within 2 hours of my call and let me know in advance what he was going to do and if his fix my water heater that the pilot went out on. If the initial diagnosis didn't work, then he let me know what the next fix would be and what it would cost.

I can't tell you if this is a good value except to say that when someone comes to help me quickly, explains what they are going to do step by step and then fixes the problem, I consider this great service and would recommend to anyone in the valley.

Update time! A few weeks ago the water heater wouldn't fire up, KC's got it going for me but now it conked out again. This time I could get the pilot to light and it seemed OK but when I turned on the main burner the pilot would blow out. Finally, after several tries and holding down the reset button for three minutes, the pilot would go out as soon as I let up on the button. The reset button overrides the safety valve which shuts off the gas if the pilot goes out, so your house doesn't blow up. That means the thermocouple which controls the safety valve must not be working.

I called a few plumbers for a quote on a thermocouple and they told me how much their service call would be and they ""would discuss pricing at that point."" I told them no thanks, because if their estimate was higher than the written quote I already had from KC's then I would be out the $39 or $59 or whatever, and for nothing. So I called KC's back. I was not aware of how much work was involved in replacing the thermocouple. Jesse had to take apart the front panel of the unit. You'd think there would be a better design. But, anyway, it's fixed now and because it stopped working so soon after their last trip they waived the $59 charge for the service call and just charged for the actual repair. So now I'm in hot water again, and can actually get the dishes clean. And that's OK.

Caution. Classic bait and switch. Price was much more than quoted. $59 trip visit that IS NOT applied to service

Waay over priced. $200 charge to replace a single water supply line in a bathroom sink. Worse yet, they left and didn't tun the hot water heater back on, didn't even open the water valve under the sink. Incompitent repairmen.

They were available to come out to deal with an emergency leak over the weekend and didn't charge an extra emergency/weekend charge. They were polite, on time, gave full information/description of the problem, and possible solutions. The office kept in touch with me about when they were/weren't coming back. Everything was done on time and within the quoted amount. I will keep their contact info and will definitely use them again.

We had a plumbing issue over the weekend at our vacation home. We didn't know any plumbers, and trying to get one on short notice is a hit-or-miss proposition. We called several plumbers before finding one who would pick up the phone on the third ring.

KC's Yellow Pages ad is pretty much on the money: instead of being shunted off to voicemail, you usually get a live (and polite) human being; that live human being sets up an appointment time that is exact - not a 2-3 hour window; their plumbers show up on time; their work is professional and timely; and they usually have the parts they need in their truck.

However, KC's great same-day service (and a two-page ad in the Yellow Pages) comes at a cost: their prices seem a bit *extreme*. We were charged over $900.00 for a water pressure test and replacement of a regulator valve that you can buy at a plumbing parts store for under $70.00.

If we had the time to shop around, we certainly could have had the job done for far less money. Since time was far more important to us, it was equally important to have the job done right on the first try. We were happy to give KC's 3 stars for that; might have awarded more if their cost had been a bit more reasonable. We also would have liked to have had an itemized estimate - something you definitely should *insist* on, if you go with KC's.

I took a pass on KC's ""VIP"" subscription service; for a fixed annual price, KC's will conduct a free sewer line inspection, annual hot water tank flushing, and discounts on repairs. If you're a longtime homeowner, it might be of some value; perhaps not, if you're a seasonal owner.
