Molly M.Our AC wasn't working right so we called KB Complete to come look at it. It was our furnace that was the issue. The tech said that it needed a new blower motor and memory module and that it was going to cost us over $3500 for these two parts so we might as well get a new furnace for $4500. We called two other companies for a second opinion and they both trouble shooted with the actual manufacturer and both companies said all our furnace needed was a $16 part, which we had one of the companies replace and our furnace is working good as new (why KB complete didn't trouble shoot with the manufacturer to figure this out is beyond me). KB also charged us over $1000 for their visit because he replaced two things that were supposedly not working, but that didn't fix our furnace and then the manager didn't want to refund us because we were going to get a new furnace with them and those parts would have been useless for our ""non working furnace that needed to be replaced. Also trouble shooting with the manufacturer is not how they do business. "" They clearly were trying to take advantage of us and they are in the sales business, not the fix your furnace/AC business to save you money and have repeat customers business.
Carol H.I just have to write again and tell you about the GREAT service we received from Randy Smith this month (Aug 2019)! The pilot light in our water heater failed yesterday morning, and Randy was able to arrive on his service call by 12:45 pm. He was very friendly and EXTREMELY knowledgeable about plumbing in general and water heaters in particular. He did a great job diagnosing the problem, locating a replacement part (our water heater is 13 years old), and replacing the part. We did not need to purchase a new water heater, which I really appreciate!
After replacing the part, Randy walked me through the procedure of flushing the water heater, and we talked about potential home improvements to minimize mineral deposits.
Randy was efficient, courteous, and very skilled in his work. He even made friends with my two cats! :-)
Thanks also to Sarah and Jenny in Scheduling and Dispatch for their efforts to get us the absolute soonest appointment available. (Two hours from phone call to service technician arrival; now THAT's service!!)
It's so good to have plumbers with such great expertise, and front-office staff who really care about getting our home back in working order as quickly as possible. That's why we continue to be satisfied customers of KB Complete!
got scammed, ripped off by 4 cooling repair services KB was the last... I reported one to the BBB and it's still in contention. Anyway KB repairman charged our HVAC with R22 but despite a leak he found. He didn't search near the compressor in the outdoor unit, only found what he called a small leak near the furnace evaporator coil. Then he claimed it can't be fixed, you'll have to get a new furnace, when he knew you can fix leaks and/or replace the A coil/evaporator coil. So against EPA regulations all of these criminals including KB Complete they ignored the leak and offered R22 charging... knowing it would leak out. It's not good to breath R22, it's stupid to charge a system you know is leaking and just leave knowing it's leaking. Completely unethical. The guy told me the first pound of R22 is free but later he charged of for all 3 pounds he claims he put in, he never showed me the results of his scale etc. In short we paid $466 for apparently 3 pounds of R22 and him telling us to upgrade in the future, no attempt to pinpoint the leaking refrigerant at all, no actual repair occurred. The do not deserve to be called a 'repair' company if they charge you $466 and leave a HVAC leaking and unrepaired.
Credit where its due. We had a tech out who misdiagnosed an Ac problem. After a couple conversations, the service manager came out, found the actual problem, fixed it on the spot, and didn't try to hide it. We would have preferred not cooking for those couple extra days, but mistakes happen. Nice to see a service company doing business the right way.
I made a Yelp account just so I could write this review. I will never use this company again. Originally I called due to my AC unit freezing up. My thermostat is on the top floor and the air flow isn't great up there so its always hot. Causing my AC to run constantly. I figured I probably needed more Freon or there was an obstruction in my vent restricting the air flow.
After the technician showed up and I explained the situation he said my unit is probably frozen (which I already told him it was). I had started defrosting my unit roughly two hours prior to his arrival. He told me, to speed up the process, I should turn my furnace on. Which I did, I, ME. Which helped.
They charged me $170 (AFTER discount) to defrost my unit which (again) I had started to do two hours prior and he did absolutely nothing to defrost it. They charged me $128 PER POUND for Freon which you can buy a 10LB tank for $180. Which means they charge SEVEN times the cost. Not including the cost to actually put the Freon in the system which is a whopping $91 (AFTER discount). They also charged $189 (AFTER discount) for a $50 can of easy seal that I NEVER saw him put in my unit. That's all the ""discount"" price if you purchase the yearly member plan.
In summation their prices are OUTLANDISH and downright CRIMINAL. I talked to my uncle they day after who is an heating and cooler technician himself. He's had his own business for over 30 years in Sedalia, MO (Diamond W). I showed him my receipt and explained the entire situation and he would have charged $300 for EVERYTHING. I made a HUGE mistake calling this terrible company to begin with. I honestly don't know how they sleep at night knowing they are straight ROBBING people.
NEVER NEVER NEVER go with KB Complete. They are criminals.
Tom V.I've read reviews in other places and here on Yelp, but I'm going to be a voice of harmonious dissent. I have used KB Complete for four years now and have had nothing but success. I initially used them when I first bought this home in 2015 because the AC went out two weeks after move in (yeah, heart attack). But the issue was just a switch that was burned out, and $79 later I was chilling again.
Full disclosure: I have a Trane that was clearly installed when the house was built (like 2001), so you know it's getting up there in years and mileage. I think furnaces and AC units age in dog years, so this unit is seriously on the fringes of old age. But it's still pushing out cool air in the Kansas summers and keeps me and the young'uns warm through these polar vortexes (vortices?) and bomb cyclones of winter.
My concern is how much life the Trane has left, because who likes a furnace replacement bill? The technicians at KB are always *exceptionally* polite, thorough, and listen to my concerns. I didn't go to HVAC school, so my understanding of climate control systems begins and ends with the on/off switch. But the KB techs keep my system running nicely, and they have never tried to sell or upsell me on services that they didn't deem essential. Even that initial visit wasn't an opportunity for a price gouge, just a simple electrical repair that the tech fixed quickly and it's never been an issue since. They clean the systems, test and explain electrical thresholds (such as how a fan motor rated for 1.3 amps is pushing....1.3 amps), and rinse out my coil outside. Top-notch!
KB Complete also helps set themselves apart with their total cycle of communications. I set my appointments, the tech calls when en route (you can opt in for text messages), they're on site and prepared, from tools to booties, and they walk through the service on their tablet after you're complete. You get an invoice emailed to you and a survey, all of which is personalized and updated for you, not something generic. The KB staff is on the same page, and that means a lot. I don't have to haggle with a tech about my appointment time, wait around, or explain a system issue to a non-technical person. Details matter, people, and KB Complete is knocking it out.
A service contract has run me $189 a year, which affords me a service call in the spring and one in the fall. Parts and labor for repairs are of course separate, but a service call for a tech for just about anything runs you $80-$100, and that's just for a specialist to come to your home! I like
the peace of mind that the service contract gives me and it has not gone up in price in three years! Winning!
So say a prayer for my Trane to keep on pumping out cool air, and give KB Complete my thanks for all they do.
Rock H.Man, I wanted to like these guys...
My furnace is fine, but I just wanted to be preventative and have it checked over for peace of mind for the rest of winter. This was the week of the ""Polar Vortex"". So, I called KB Complete to check it out.
KB comes out, and the first young tech was awesome. He did notice the CO levels on the exhaust were way high (500 when it should be under 100). Now, the CO inside the house was fine, it was just the exhaust vent. Still, a concern. He checked it all but thought it best to come back tomorrow with a supervisor. So KB comes back the next day with a supervisor and senior tech to see exactly WHY the levels were high. They said it's probably the heat exchanger (though the flame test was fine) but to clean it and diagnose it, it would cost so much I might as well buy a new furnace ($3500). Then they said they had to legally shut off my gas. If I turned it back on, it would be at my own risk of a ""deadly incident"". So, I'm scared, but since the CO was good in the house and I have CO detectors, of course I turned it on. It's frickin' February!
So, I was bummed out, having to buy a new furnace.
I got 2 estimates for a new furnace and then called a third (Priced Right) for an estimate. They said, ""Honestly, I don't think anything is wrong with your furnace"". He checked it over (just because he was there) and said he sees no indication of exchanger issues. He goes outside and noticed the exhaust vent was blowing right into the intake valve. I fixed the exhaust direction and he re-tested the CO levels and lo and behold, the CO levels were back to normal.
I really wanted to like KB but at best they missed something so simple like that, or worse, tried to take advantage of me.
EDIT: They also left a condensation hose disconnected and water was dripping down through and onto the floor, and my motor has been making a sound since they left.
KB Complete did a spectacular job on our HVAC system, and has come out for various plumbing jobs. I'm torn because I like the company and we've hired them-- but I won't use their electrical department again. I was strung along for weeks on a solar panel quote, all while there was a pretty hazardous situation going on in my attic wiring. Luckily I moved on quickly and another local electrician fixed the dangerous state of the attic. It was more than just a bit of knob and tube-- it was every cable spiced together and the caps falling off. So, maybe just stick to what you know. Or simply quote to fix the immediate dangers that your customers have, instead of just saying we needed a whole home rewire and leaving.
I called to have a main line clean-out and run the camera - it was their advertised 99.00 special. But 3 hours later - I was told the service was more than double (since they found so many roots - well, yeah - that's why I needed the clean-out) If they are going to advertise a special for cleaning out the main line, then they should stick by their advertised price and not upcharge because it was more work. I was also told after the clean-out, that I needed a complete new sewer line to the tune of 12,000. The 'tech' that was running the camera showed up late - almost an hour and a half after the other guy who was ontime. We stood around waiting on him because the guy cleaning the line wanted to camera it first to find the clog ----total time was about 3 hours. When camera guy finally shows he ran the camera so fast after the cleanout, that it was hard to actually SEE if there were sufficient issues to warrant a complete line replacement. He kept telling me there were multiple offsets (there were) and cracks (I didn't see those) he also told me it was broken at the tap (I didn't see any break there either). Sooooo I am going to see if KB Complete will do the right thing and send a more knowledgeable tech out to re-camera and see if indeed I do need a whole new line, or just needed it cleaned. The tech they sent out was more of just a salesman who quoted an outrageous price. I thought I was paying for a professional that wasn't trying to sell me something, but rather provide a service. There are plenty of 'Big Guys' out there that will offer a bait and switch. I - I didn't expect it yesterday from KB... I am a bit disappointed so far - let's see if they make it right.
We've had a terrible experience with this company. They sold us a larger more expensive AC last fall and this spring after three service visits it was determined they set it up wrong. Our AC was running day and night and we have a $300 ac bill. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. The installers are clueless.
Update - the supervisor called and sent us a refund and has made a very strong effort to correct their mistakes. I have to say I was really surprised at how helpful they we're. This time they treated us well.
