Karma was referred to me by someone I who'd done high quality work for me before, but wasn't available.
This wasn't a remodel, but I had a long list of tasks and repairs, starting with hanging a very heavy mirror -- a family heirloom -- on the plaster/lathe wall of a 120 y. o. house. Karma proved himself a good problem solver as the size (3'x'5') & weight (~60 lbs.) of the mirror posed problems, and I needed it to be secure in an earthquake. Rather than using heavy wire attached to eye-bolts in studs and attaching the corners to the walls with Velcro (the way it had been mounted years before), Karma ingeniously decided to remove the mirror from its frame/backing and mount the frame on the wall first. This proved so much easier, lighter. He was able to center and level it and bolted into studs at six points. The mirror was easy enough to slide back in from the top. I was so impressed with how secure it was. It won't be going anywhere when the Hayward Fault blows! FWIW, Karma also bolted a big bookcase, china cabinet, etc. This Earthquake Captain was very pleased!
Another important task was cleaning up the wood & wire fence someone else had recently built. I showed him what I felt the problems were but I didn't have the solutions. We replaced the pressure-treated wood with redwood all around (~60') and Karma came up with a creative and attractive solution for covering up the PT posts we couldn't replace. He included/partnered with me at ever turn, from selecting lumber to the actual installation. (see photos). I'm not a pro, but while Karma did the cuts on his table saw (he has impressive tools!) he let me use his tools and help with the project. (He is very patient!) Fun for me and hopefully we saved some time/$$ as well.
Karma also created installed a beautiful and strong handrail on my back stairs. (See photo) Given the angles, miter cuts, turns, aligning with the stairs and landing, the width of the old siding, etc., he did a beautiful job. It's smooth, secure and just the right height. (I'll be staining it myself.) Karma also repaired an original threshold for me, stabilized and straightened the front door frame so the doors close smoothly and quietly, helped me transport some heavy furniture, and there's plenty more to do.
It's hard to find a Housewright these days -- I've only met a few who come close. Karma seems like a natural. He is also friendly, honest, careful, respectful, conscientious and kind. Karma is a pleasure to work with and his prices are fair.

We live almost next door to Jamyang, so when we detected an unexpected problem that required removing the drywall ceiling in our garage we asked for his help. He estimated a two-day job and started work the next morning.
He hired an assistant and rented scaffolding, began by moving garage contents around and tarping over everything. They took down an immense amount of drywall (2+ car garage) and hauled it away. Also replaced tubes in fluorescent ceiling lights. Excellent cleanup and the job was done in one long day!
Reasonable price, very good value, and pleasant to do business with.
Highly recommended! We will probably hire him again.

G.W. - I consider myself very fortunate to have had the support of Karma to fix and upgrade several areas of our home. He repaired and paved a section of our driveway that had developed many dangerous cracks. Our wooden kitchen floor of 24 years had become very marked by furniture movement - Karma meticulously refurbished the floor to its original presence. Those were the major projects -he was also very responsive to minor needs for upgrading and improved lighting. There are many varied projects we have in mind for the near future as Karma has a wide range of skills and is very responsive to developing solutions with you.

I had Jamyang re-do our entire kitchen and deck, including installing new appliances, cabinetry, and the the works. He was super professional and easy to communicate with, and had great prices. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a handyman!

Karma Jamyang (James) is an excellent handyman! He is a skilled carpenter, does quality work, on time and on budget, while keeping a clean and tidy workspace. I feel his biggest attribute is that he listens to what the client wants, and works with the client to come up with the best solution to a problem. He helped on a significant deck remodel project, with extensive framing, siding and decking. He did all the actual decking, a lot of the framing and siding, and we could not be happier with the way it turned out.
We would definitely hire James with Karma Handy again!
