Beware of these scammers! They will charge you outrageous prices for a simple 15-minute inspection as previous reviewers have noted. I got a ridiculous $900 bill for them to splash water around my tub, flush the toilet a few times and cut an opening through my neighbor's ceiling. No actual work was performed. And they refuse a conversation to come to a more reasonable number for the scope of work involved. Complete RIP-OFF.
These guys are the best! My brooklyn condo's heating system broke down, and living in CA you can imagine the difficulty in solving this problem from here. After a horrible, months-long experience with a different plumbing company, Jordan took the time to explain the details involving the project, did the permit research and came out to diagnose the issue. When it turned out to be an HVAC problem he put me in touch with a specialist and even called him for me and explained the job. Seriously, I DIDN'T KNOW THIS LEVEL OF CUSTOMER SERVICE EXISTS ANYMORE, and even though I couldn't hire them for this job, I have a plumbing company for life now.
Side note- they were referred to me by a friend on a condo board who used them to do some serious underground plumbing work for their Chelsea building and they did a great job. These guys are legit! And I always like to support a family business.
Paid them about $475 dollars for them to drive to my apartment and tell me they couldn't repair my shower head that was leaking. I'm not a full time resident. If I was able to be there I could walk to Home Depot and buy a new one and install it myself. $400+ labor to spend probably 15 minutes assessing the problem. What a joke!!!!!!
Zoe R.Great service! I'd been having draining issues and the guy who fixed the problem was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. He explained how to avoid the problem in the future which was GREATLY appreciated! No issues at all, highly recommended
I have found Brett the owner rude. He hung up on me several times and said he does not have to deal with me. My building insisted I use them . I have no explanation as to what they did. They refuse to explain why they lowered my water pressure and refuse to come back to fix the problem at a time I can be at the apt. I have never dealt with a company so difficult to deal with.
Kapnag was referred to me from a neighboring tenant who uses them regularly. From the initial phone call they were eager to help discover the issue and give options how to fix it. An employee was sent the same day and on arrival already had knowledge on the situation. What made the experience so pleasing was that the Plumber explained why the pump leaked, how he would fix and if it was okay to go ahead with the job. The previous company that worked on the issue gave no explanation, just a big bill that didn't even fix the leak. Polite, quick, and amazing communication, I will be using them in the future for any plumbing work.
Kapnag's owner, Brett Neuhauser, is verbally abusive to customers, has a staff of incompetent plumbers and is unable to complete a job in a workmanlike manner. I hired his firm to remodel my bathroom, including rerouting the pipes to the risers (a common requirement in older buildings) and installing bath and shower trim, including 3 body sprays which were to be operated independently top and bottom. The owner personally ascertained that I had all the required parts for the installation and sent a worker to do the work. After I sheetrocked over the plumbing and installed a beautiful marble wall, it was ready for the trim. However, the plumber who came to do the trim discovered that the first plumber had reversed the position of the body spray and diverter and told me that the wall would have to be demolished so that the faulty work could be corrected. After several weeks and a cost of nearly $1000, not to mention my spending endless attempting to find a new match for the existing marble, the plumbing was redone and the wall replaced. However, when the next plumber came to install the trim, he told me that the previous plumbers neglected to install the fixture necessary to allow the body sprays to operate independently of each other!! (In the interest of full disclosure, Mr. Neuhauser did offer to install the missing fixture if I would demolish, resheetrock and install new marble again.) I just wanted a working bathroom. Unfortunately, when the last plumber left, the tub was not draining. The owner never corrected this because, after much begging on my part, when he did send someone up to look at the drain, this person refused to wait for Kapnag's office to fax over a certificate of insurance. It took 8 months from the time the trim was installed for me to finally have a functioning bathtub. As a postscript, Mr. Neuhauser dislikes unfavorable reviews. He had an attorney send me a letter ordering me to remove my Yelp posting.
Brooklyn S.Kapnag for some reason was recommended by Sloan Flushmate so I used them and assumed they would do a good job. What I got instead was bad advice, a bill that was reasonable I guess, and a quote that seemed high. The problem with all this is that the plumber didn't fix the problem but said that it could not be fixed and the whole unit had to be replaced. The second plumber (known and trusted professional that we should have just waited for in the first place) fixed the problem in a matter of minutes and said he thought the Kapnag guy, Calvin, was trying to rip us off because the problem wasn't that difficult yet he was telling us it was impossible to fix and would be $800 to come back on top of the $240 for coming, snaking, and ultimately not making anything better.
Now, they're not all bad. They offered to give us a break and not charge their overtime fee for working after 4pm and fit us in last minute, which I appreciated but with bad service it ultimately was a bad decision. Calvin was also a nice guy but in the end, did that really matter? Not much. Brett the owner, I believe, whom I called to discuss the issue became a little hostile when I said I thought Calvin didn't do a good job by recommending that we replace the toilet because it would be impossible to fix.
They must not be all bad and their rates are better than some but as for my experience I have to give them 2 stars, this despite being rather angry with this whole situation - if on feeling alone about the whole thing I would give them 1 star.
