Mark at K&K plumbing was an amazing technician. He came to my house fixed all of my issues and helped me to navigate through my home warranty. Which by the way makes the rules and regulations of how we the customers have to pay, what's covered, and what the technicians are allowed to do. So I knew when he started telling me how to get around the red tape he was an amazing guy! Family owned business with his first responder sons. I wouldn't use anyone else. If you feel as though you were ""scammed"" blame your home warranty not the company. These other reviews clearly have no idea how the system works.
Joe H.Most of my reviews are raves (check if you don't believe me).
This one is not.
I have an HMS Home Warranty and a leaking toilet. K&K was the plumber assigned to fix it. They came, took my deductible and proclaimed that the failing/failed wax seal on the toilet was the cause of the leak, but the subflooring was damaged (by the leak as it turned out) and so needed to be repaired first. Subflooring is not a covered repair. Fair enough. K&K performed no repair work on this visit.
Fast forward less than 2 months later. We've now had the subflooring repaired. The contractor that did the work (Elements Home Remodeling. See my 5 star Yelp review for them -- they rock!) said that the toilet is rusted out and needs to be replaced. So back to HMS and K&K I went. They took our money and this part of it is a covered repair, right? Should be simple.
K&K tells me that HMS will not pay for this repair because our contractor had removed the toilet. K&K did offer to replace the toilet outside of warranty though(*).
On one level this makes sense (how could HMS know if the contractor wasn't the one that caused the damage to it?). On another level though...how can you require the subfloor to be fixed but also require the toilet to not be removed in the process of the repair?!? That sounded like a catch-22 to me, and so I decided to call HMS to have them tell me this themselves. Surely a leaking toilet having rust damage makes it obvious as to what actually caused the damage, right?
So I called HMS, who called K&K to get their story. HMS tells me that K&K are the ones that don't want to do the job because the contractor removed the toilet.
I pointed out to HMS that I already paid a deductible for this claim so the new plumber that they send will not be collecting one. One presumes that the money will be deducted from what K&K gets paid by HMS and be sent to this new plumber.
(*) == Warranty company reimbursement rates are very low for their contractors. They make far more on jobs when you pay them than they do when they take the referrals from companies like HMS. There's an inherent conflict-of-interest in how the system works. The best-financial-case on a home-warranty-referral for the contractor is that the warranty denies coverage for the repair. Then they still got the referral for the job, but also get paid at their normal rate rather than the warranty-contract discounted rate. This is why you should only believe the warranty company itself when you are told that a claim will not be covered.
My awesome regular plumber (Mirek's Plumbing, also a 5 star review) I initially met through an HMS referral. He's quit working for HMS because he refuses to be put into this sort of conflict-of-interest with his customers. He's that ethical. So if HMS won't pay for this job, I will be using him.
K&K's offer to do the work I needed outside of warranty, but apparent refusal to do the job at warranty rates, even after getting the referral for the job from the warranty company and taking the warranty contract's deductible money from me? You can be the judge of that.
I was assigned to K&K through the Sears home warranty. When I looked them up online I was scared by the reviews. My experience was much better than I expected. I spoke with Mark and he explained to me that Sears needed a new service number for each plumbing item I needed done. I called Sears and they provided me the additional numbers with no hassle. The plumbers, Zack and Chris, showed up on time. They were very professional, very courteous, and very competent. They fixed everything quickly and left no mess behind. There were no unexpected charges. I would gladly use them again.
Zahir M.Such a rip off and unprofessional service provider through HMS Home Warranty. Charged extra 120 dollars to change a freaking valve.
Blair B.I am proud to be the first review for K & K and sincerely hope that I am the last.
Mark Kline of K & K plumbing came to my home on December 3 to fix a leak in our hall bathroom. In fixing the leak, Mark replaced the piece needed. Mark failed to perform regular due diligence in the performance of his work, resulting in not being able to use the shower for more than one month as well as costing me an ADDITIONAL $150 in repairs.
-Mark did not line the tub
-Mark did not recaulk pieces, leaving a large hole in the wall. If the shower were used during this time, we would have had severe water damage in the walls and through the ceiling on the main level.
-Mark did not clean up any of the mess made during his work.
-Mark cracked tile. While I understand these things happen from time to time, Mark did not note that it was cracked nor offer a solution.
I attempted to contact Mark Kline of K&K Plumbing and he did not respond to multiple calls/voicemails requesting that he return to fix his work. I also reached out to HMS Home Warranty (who sent K&K to my home) and they were also unable to contact Mark Kline.
After waiting and trying to work with K&K and HMS Home Warranty, I secured a second plumber. The second plumber noted that Mark Kline of K&K did a ""piss poor"" job. I also learned that Mark Kline of K&K has a reputation for doing these fast, careless jobs and ghosting homeowners.
The solution for the cracked tile was a cover plate, which cost about $50 and required $100 of labor to install. It is pathetic that Mark Kline of K&K plumbing wasted my time and caused my family the inability to use a shower for 6 weeks over a second visit and a $50 part.
Please, if Mark Kline / K&K is assigned to your home, ask for a new service provider and save yourself the frustration and the cost of repairs to fix his errors.
