Went with this company 4 years ago because they had great Yelp reviews AT THE TIME. Had 8 ""scheduled"" service visits from them on a lenox heating/air unit in last 4 years and all was ""fine"". They insisted on another unscheduled FREE visit this month and then told us our system was failing and needed a larger air take unit plus some other ""upgrades"" or the whole system might fail. And they wanted $900 to ""upgrade"" the system to present day ""regulations"". We have a 10 year warranty on the system and 10 years on labor. If even half of these multiple (and RECENT) negative reviews had been here 4 years ago we would never have chosen Putnam.

We asked JR Putman to come to our home on January 21 because the heater was not working. A technician showed up on the 22nd and spent 3 hours in the house and attic. He was very specific in describing all of the work that needed to be done, including explaining how the system was too small for the house, how the ducts were crimped, and how the current system could not be repaired. We gave him the $79 Putman visit fee, but declined to make any decisions without our landlord present. Our landlord came over the next morning and reviewed the recommendations with a supervisor/salesman from JR Putman. The salesman attempted to sell our landlord on a new furnace and A/C. Range was $10,000 to $15,000 - and that included a special 10% discount! Would not leave us anything printed and even took his ""scratch price list"" with him when he left. Our landlord told the Putman fellow that he would need three bids before he could replace anything on this house. That made the Putman fellow unhappy and he left.

We lived with space heaters over the weekend and brought in a second company on Monday the 26th. The technician spent 20 minutes in the attic, cleaned out a hose, and replaced the thermostat. $220 later the furnace is working perfectly.

JR Putman must have an oversupply of furnaces that they need to move before the end of January.

Our experience with JR Putman was distinctly unsatisfactory.

The techs were nice enough, so they built trust. However, after telling me the thermostat was broken, they went into the garage and checked the furnace. Without asking, they ripped out the heat exchange because ""we saw it was a 20-year old Goodman."" and they ""suspected"" it was failing. The way they tore out the heat exchanger made it impossible to put it back or have anyone else give a second opinion. It cannot be repaired. In fact, they refused to put it back because it was a ""safety issue."" How convenient. I'll never forget the blood on one of their forehead--he hurt his head ripping apart our furnace!

The two techs immediately set me up with a salesman called a (ahem) Comfort Specialist to sell me a new furnace and A/C unit at around 13K. They left the furnace torn apart for me to deal with, refusing to put it back for my own safety. I had two other bidders come in and both assured me that the furnace should not have been left like that--the tear out was so complete that I now have no choice but to replace the furnace. Nice scam, Putman. To make matters worse, they even charged me $79 for their ""diagnostic"" disaster and handed out doorknob fliers to all our neighbors? WTF?

The Used Car Salesman/Comfort Specialist was unprofessional. Not only did he fail to give me an itemized quote, he bad-mouthed a competitor, telling me they give quotes in the $18K range (lie: that company came in lower). He went on to request that I let him know what other quotes I got so he could beat the best offer I receive. Like I said, the used car ""what can I do to get your business"" approach appalled me.

Bottom line: STAY AWAY FROM JR PUTMAN. My lesson learned is the big companies in this industry give you tons of guarantees that they end up making you pay for with their over-the-top high pricing. My suggestion is remove the salesman from the equation and deal with smaller, reputable, owner-operated businesses. Just make sure you understand what you are buying before you let anybody in your front door.

I had been burned by another heating and air company, and my ac was not blowing cold air. so I called JR Putman after hearing their jingle about service so good you'll send them to your Mom, and I thought, nobodys that good, are they? So I called and asked for the 69 check and charge thingy. They were very polite on the phone, and set me up for an appointment for Wednesday, two days later. I thought that was pretty Fast, so a good start.

The tech Matt came and looked over the unit, did some diagnotsics and filled the ac system with Freon, which I thought I hat to pay nmore for, but it was included in the price, cool thing number two. Then he checked the airflow, and the AC was running much better. The tech was friendly, clean, and a good communicator. He told us every step of the way what he was doing, and I am very satisfied. Now I think this next part is hilarious but....I sent them over to my Mom's to service her AC system last week, haha. So it is true, at least my experience with this company was great.

I will probably need a new system in the next year or two, and I will definitely call these guys back to do the job.

This company immedeately returned my call. Scheduled me for service the next day. Scheduled my appt for 5pm so I wouldnt have to leave work early. The tech was better than on time, he was waiting for me when I got home. He quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it on the spot. His name was Justin. Cost was better than I expected. He didnt try to upsell me or talk me into anything I didnt need. Overall the service was excellent. They now have a loyal customer.

Not only do they not return calls. After several calls I finally got through to the manager Bill who scheduled an appt for 6 weeks out and then doesn't show or call to reschedule . This company should get 0 stars for both their service and their terrible installations and maintenance.

So I took the $69 tune-up special they had going. Well, when the technician showed up, he didn't know why he was there. He spent 30 mins checking my Furnace and AC unit. All he did was use his fancy gauges and told me how bad the readings were and that the unit will break down this summer. He didn't even do any tune-up unless tune-up to them means telling how bad the Unit is. He kept insisting on sending a sales person for a new A/C Unit. So bottom line, I will never do business with this company again. If my Unit does fail this summer, I will have some one else fix it.

Matt B was our service tech and did a wonderful job. His professionalism and integrity shows quite clearly through his interactions with customers. Keep up the good work!

I wonder if the service techs get paid extra for blaming fan motor failure on the homeowner. I could be wrong, but I don't think insults and talking down to someone is a good way to try to get $1500 out of me. He also lied to me about needing a service plan for my equipment to be under warranty. Don't blame something on me and then try to get me to join your service plan BS.

I ultimately had a local company fix my AC for $1000 less than I was quoted by JR. Part was indeed under warranty and I didn't need any service plan to keep it that way. JR just wanted to charge me high prices for a whole new motor, when all it needed was a single part replaced.

Stay away.

I ordered a voucher off livingsocial.com com that was supposed to include an A/C tune-up, duct inspection, and water heater flush. I think I paid $59 for the voucher which claimed it had a value of $161. Paul came out and did a pretty thorough inspection which lasted about two hours. His notes indicated he inspected the A/C and the ductwork for proper operation, safety, and efficiency. He recommended replacing the blower capacitor due to testing outside rated specs. According to his sheet, the indoor blower was 8.6, which was below rating. I approved the replacement for $184 after he stated my system could fail at any time and that it would cost a lot more if I waited for it to fail. Paul then went back in the attic and replaced the part in about five minutes. At the time I was unaware of how cheap the part was and how easy of a job it was going to be. I feel like I got ripped off. The part is about $3. I basically paid $181 for 5 mins of work. Later I called the company to complain. Bill the supervisor or manager stated he has a lot of overhead and that it costs a lot to send someone out. He stated they have to pay for gas and benefits, etc. He basically blew a lot of smoke and made up excuses. Had they subtracted my $59 voucher price from the repair, I probably wouldn't be here complaining, but they didn't. What started as a good service call, ended with me getting ripped off. Paul never flushed the water heater either. Do not use this company. They also tried to sell me their silver plan. I was smart enough to say no to their monthly fees.
