J&R Herra, Inc. has been honorably serving Elburn and the surrounding Chicagoland suburbs for close to forty years. Brothers, Jack and Rich Herra founded J&R Herra, Inc. nearly 40 years ago when they took over a small plumbing business in Lily Lake from Jack's father-in-law. United, the brothers opted to relabel and transfer their shop to Elburn in the beginning 1980s. As the business expanded locally, so did the staff at J&R Herra. Jack and Rich welcomed an office staff and field technicians, four of whom were Jack's grown children. Today, Jack's youngest son, Brian, is proud to run J&R Herra, Inc. as the president. We takes pride in supporting customers throughout the western Chicagoland area. Besides plumbing, we have earned our place as expert professionals in heating, air conditioning, electrical, radiant, and geothermal service. Not only do we take pride in our rich history of family and commitment, but we are also leaders in the advancements, services, and designs of the future plumbing and HVAC industries.

It’s clear that Brian Herra was destined to run J&R Herra, Inc. Certainly, he was raised in a plumbing and HVAC setting. He dedicated countless hours watching from his father, uncle, and older brothers as they embraced their family’s craft. Following his graduation from Kaneland High School, Brian simultaneously earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Aurora University, was a university athlete, and completed his plumbing apprenticeship, securing his plumbing license in 2002. Ever since, he has been working for J&R Herra. You can spot Brian in the service area, managing the office, or connecting with both existing customers. In 2011, Brian acquired J&R Herra, Inc. from his mother and uncle. He continues to developing the company and its services while upholding his core values of family, hard work, and dedication.

Our hot water heater was not working consistently. I called J&R and they sent a technician within a couple of hours and within 3.5 hours we had a new hot water heater installed. Excellent service and technician.

I had a frozen pipe on 12/23/22 the coldest day in years. John P. here about 2 hours after I called the company. He was very professional, gave me three options to fix the problem. I will definitely use J&R for any future needs and will insist they send John!!!

We had our hot water heater replaced.
The estimate over the phone was $7-800.
After looking at the situation the plumber said our cost to install would be $800.
He was done in about 1 1/2 Hours and added an extra $100 for unforeseen work
which caused him to spend an extra 15 minutes. So I guess this company bills at $400/ hr. Now of course I didn't monitor
the work so i don't know what he did during the time but no one said there would be additional charges after inspecting the unit.
These guys charge more than most lawyers and primary care doctor.

I live in Brookfield and my cousin lives in Geneva. Her furnace was not working and she had some bad luck trying to get it repaired. I called my HVAC man in Brookfield and he said he couldn't go out that far but recommended J & R heating. . He said they were the best in the area.
I called and they came out yesterday. Greg worked on my cousins 25 year old furnace,
As I watched him work taking apart this 25 year old furnace putting it back together for 6 hours we talked about problem solving. I used to be and engineer for Boeing and Northstar Aircraft. We agreed that one of the things in solving an almost insolvable problem is to never give up. He never gave up. After all that the price was so unbelievably low that we were both amazed. J&R heating will be our HVAC people until we die.
Thank You so much,
Dan Beutler and Marilyn Rizzato-Rines

Had a sump pump system glitch Saturday night at 10:30pm knocking out BOTH sump pumps. With all the rain that weekend and more rain to come, a flooded basement was imminent. We called J&R Herra and their technician came to our house in less than 30 minutes. He had a temporary pump installed and running before midnight. They will follow up Monday to fix the original system when parts are available. This is just one example of my experiences with J&R Herra's services that makes them as the first people I call.

Our family was almost taken for ten grand by these folks. I had heard stories about these folks over the years, nothing good, but they were in our town and we were desperate.
Our heating exchange was at fault and upon examination, the service people said it was not serviceable and could not be repaired. Then they said that even if it was fixable, it would be almost as expensive as replacing the entire boiler, which they quoted as $10,000 plus $3,000 finance charge. When asked about cleaning the soot buildup, which was the culprit, again they said it would not be possible, we needed a new boiler.
I called Amazing Heating and they came, they cleaned the unit in two hours and only charged $599.
Beware of being scammed into get a new furnace or boiler when one is not needed, especially when a honest company can quickly make the need repair.
Lastly, Amazing was going to replace the heating exchange for $1300, which is cheaper then the $10,000, these people tried to get from us.

When our a/c gave out at the end of last summer, I made a decision to shop local when I replaced it in the spring. I am really glad that I did. The estimator showed up on time and carefully explained my options. The work was scheduled and completed on time, with service that was professional as well as courteous. They even scheduled a follow up visit two weeks later to be sure that everything was running as it should. (This year we have needed heat and air in the same week, and it worked very well.) Did I mention that they cleaned up the work area before leaving? Highly recommend Herra.

Don't use this company unless you have all the time in the world to wait on your project being completed. We have had our product in our garage for 3 weeks now. This is Now the second time where Brian herra does not respond to emails or phone calls . Such poor communication and shame on us for giving him a second try after doing some work for us earlier in the year which took months . He had some great excuses last time can't wait to hear what it is this time.

Called J & R Herra because my sewer was backing up in my basement. The technician came, and tried to clear the plug and then put a camera down, but couldn't get it past one pipe in the system. Asked me if I knew where the clean out was and I had no clue. He charged me $350 and said call me next week if it's still backed up...which it was. I called to let them know and since I didn't know where the clean out was, they wanted to break up the concrete in my basement to find the issue and install a new clean out...but they were NOT guaranteeing anything, and that this would probably not fix the problem. Brian and the technician who came to my house quoted the job and Brian has never been to my house. So...no trouble shooting. The other company that I called came out trouble shot the problem, actually found the clean out in my wall (without too much effort-process of elimination) and cleaned out roots in my sewer system. Oh...and the cost was less than half of what was quoted to just tear out the concrete in my basement. Very disappointed in a company that's been in Elburn for years. Sad... :(

When our hot water heater started acting up after 20 years of service, we contacted J&R Herra for a quote. When Vincent came out the next day, we were sufficiently impressed to further discuss with Jay Gregory, HVAC Service Manager, replacing our A/C and furnace at the same time proactively as they were also 20 years old. While the total quote was higher than we were anticipating, we decided to go ahead. Mitch, Vincent, Shawn and a couple other technicians got the job done in about a day and a half, and we are very happy with the upgrade and the associated manufacturers' warranties. Based upon the professionalism of all Harra personnel we dealt with, we also decided to do a five year service contract with them. While not the least expensive route, we think the old saying that you get what you pay for is often true and certainly in our experience thus far with J&R Herra.
