For more than forty years, J&R Herra, Inc. has been dedicated to serving Geneva and the western Chicagoland area. Brothers Jack and Rich Herra founded J&R Herra, Inc. nearly 40 years ago after acquiring a small plumbing business in Lily Lake from Jack's father-in-law. In the early 1980s, they chose to rename and move their shop to Elburn. With local growth, the J&R Herra team also grew. Jack and Rich welcomed office personnel and field technicians, four of whom were Jack's grown children. Currently, Jack's youngest son, Brian, manages J&R Herra, Inc. as the president and owner. J&R Herra takes pride in serving customers throughout the western Chicagoland region. Beyond plumbing, we are recognized as experts in heating, air conditioning, electrical, radiant, and geothermal services and installations. We are proud of our family legacy and dedication, as well as our role as leaders in the innovative technologies, services, and designs shaping the future of plumbing and HVAC.

It’s evident that Brian Herra was meant to run J&R Herra, Inc. After all, he grew up immersed in the plumbing and HVAC industry. He spent endless hours learning from his father, uncle, and older brothers as they practiced their family’s craft. After finishing Kaneland High School, Brian earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Aurora University, was a collegiate athlete, and completed his plumbing apprenticeship, obtaining his plumbing license in 2002. He has worked with J&R Herra ever since. Brian can be seen in the service field, overseeing the office, or engaging with both returning and new clients. In 2011, he took ownership of J&R Herra, Inc. from his mother and uncle. He continues to enhance the company and its offerings while staying true to his core values of family, hard work, and dedication.

My parents used J&R Herra from the late 1960s until last year. They received honest, good service for decades. But something has changed. We recommended Herra to an elderly friend who needed a simple repair. The technician charged $180 to fix her leaky faucet. After he left, the same problem occurred immediately. She sought two other opinions and was told the faucet needed replacing and no way could it be repaired. Giving Herra another chance, she asked for a replacement. They told her to buy the item and they'd install it. But, she would not know what to buy, and asked could they provide options to bring? They emailed her only two faucet options, one at $450 and another at $750. She could afford neither. She ended up buying a faucet for $100 and chose an affordable plumber to install. Yet, she is out $180 (a lot for her) for absolutely nothing! This is no longer the type of place we can recommend.

Fast repair but did not receive an itemized invoice. Needed a new shower gasket and it costs $517. Seemed expensive.

I recently had home repair completed to replace facia, soffits with venting and rotted wood on both my garage and my house. Everything removed, replaced and hauled away in less than 4 days. The quality of the work was fantastic, and I couldn't be happier. Working with Catherine in the Herra office was a wonderful experience. She kept me informed of timing, scheduling and pricing every step of the way. The quality and price were better than anywhere I'd looked. I would absolutely recommend them for your home repairs and remodels. I will be using them again in the future.

The owner's response to my previous review is a lie. They did not accommodate us on the day of the appointment. I scheduled that appointment and they agreed to come. The work was to install thermostat, there was no extra work done. I had to call a different electrician after they came to fix what they broke. The thermostat was not installed properly and their technician broke a fuse which caused our heater to malfunction.

I am extremely disappointed in our experience today. We reached out to J & R Herra (they are not the usual company we use, but because it was the first week of warm weather, everyone was booked). The service technician was here for 40 minutes, checked a few things outside and inside, and refilled one pound of refrigerant. We received an invoice of $470, which is not what we are used to. In addition, the bill was not itemized, and I appreciate knowing what I am pay for, especially at that high of a price. We had the exact same service done in October with someone else. We received an itemized bill, $70 for the first pound of refrigerant, $45 for the second pound, and $120 for 45 minutes of labor, for a total of $230. Seemed fair enough. When I called today to get a clearer idea of today's bill I was told ""Every company is different, and that's how we do things"" He also told me that refrigerant prices have doubled lately. This is very understandable, but still does not explain our bill if refrigerant was $70 in October. Doubled would be $140. Not to mention, we have not used our AC since our refill in October, so pretty sure there is a leak that they failed to diagnose. All in all, we paid triple to put a bandaid on the problem.

We had a water tank failure and needed a same day replacement. Heidi and Kyle were very helpful in selecting a replacement tank and scheduling the replacement.

Justin F was outstanding. He was neat, laid plastic and used protective footwear to not endanger my light tan carpeting. He was quick, did a great job, friendly and answered all my questions. I could not have been happier with the service and will use them for all my plumbing needs.

They are a class act operation. The guidance and product information was outstanding. Same day estimate even during the covid crises. Kyle was extremely responsive to all my questions and concerns. Mike and John were the installers. They replaced a tanked 50 gallon water heater with an tankless system. The work performed by these 2 gentlemen was outstanding. They did an excellent job cleaning up as well as a Grade A++ installation of the system. In the future I intend to use this organization for any of my Heating/AC and plumbing solutions. I highly recommend them!!

Thanks

Our water heater went out unexpectedly and J&R Herra was able to come out to assess the situation the same day I called. The installation went smoothly by Mike and his additional team of help. They took care not to bang up the walls or the hardwood floors getting the 75 gallon monster of a unit into the basement. I would highly recommend J&R Herra. Everyone gave excellent service and respects our home. Mike, Donnie, Kyle...thank you for making this unexpected event easy!

I had been worried for awhile how I would replace our 75 gallon water heater in the basement. It seemed so big and I wondered how they would get it out. In the end my worries were a waste of time. I called, received a fair price and set the appointment. Jeff and John showed up right on time, quickly brought down the new 75 gallon unit, installed it and with what appeared to be no problem got the old one out. It was a great experience and I would use them again.
