I began with plumbing services, remodeling, and building projects. I grew further qualifications and offerings for boilers, air conditioning, electrical, and construction to build a thriving HVAC and plumbing business which I transferred ownership in 1999.
Upon the sale of the company, I worked exclusively through referrals for several years. In 2011, I established JOS Inc. with a commitment to staying compact and producing quality work at a reasonable price.
I began my plumbing career in 1974. As time passed, I developed my knowledge to become qualified in various fields. I aim to gain knowledge new methods in my profession every day.
I opened a plumbing business in Marin County in 1986. In 1988, I expanded boiler services and radiant heating and later, in 1994, I added HVAC services. In 2002, I started providing contracting services with the inclusion of electrical services in 2006.
My reputation as a trusted HVAC and plumbing business allowed me to divest to a corporate entity in 1999 before starting my current company.
I aim is to deliver top-notch personal service to all our patrons. Helping others is my mission, and I take pride in it.

Penny H.Furnace went kaput on an October morning! Husband called several places, but only John Owens Services were able to come out to San Anselmo the same day. Chris arrived to give my husband an estimate. He was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We liked his estimate and went with them. The next day CHRIS and GABE came out to replace our 1970's 100K BTU furnace with a 80K more efficient unit. Both of these young men were friendly, professional, and efficient. Thank you! We have heat!
I tried to schedule a visit as my heater quit working and needed an appt ASAP. I was told the soonest they could come was in a couple days and I asked them to hold the appt. in case I could not find someone sooner and I would call them and let them know ""IF"" I got someone who could come sooner. They agreed to hold it and since my experience with service in general lately leaves a lot to be desired, I texted the gal who contacted me to confirm the appt. and I was told it was given away because someone tried confirming with me yesterday and got no response. I had no texts or VM's from them so that is pure BS. I went down and looked at the unit and noticed a sticker from a company who had serviced it before and called them. Got an appt today without the 67 dollar diagnostic service fees, etc. Good customer service has become a rarity these days, you chase them instead of companies doing their best to help potential clients. I miss the old days when people actually cared.
We recently had a water heater that gave out and needed replacement. After getting one or two bids that were poorly broken down I was referred to John Owen Services by a friend. We live in a well maintained craftsman in Mill Valley and we are meticulous about doing things right. The appraiser who came to our home did a good job reviewing our situation and gave me three different solutions from tank water heaters to an on demand solution describing pros and drawbacks of each. An appointment was made and the next day Temo the technician came to install
Temo was on time and detailed. He called and made sure I was kept abreast of progress and new hot water heater installed.
Because of having such a good experience I decided to book an appointment to have our furnaces looked at with winter ahead. The following day they were inspected and serviced by a different technician. Over the weekend I had an issue with a fan that did not reset on our furnace. Because of having Temo's cell I called. He immediately took an interest in helping me out even though he was not the one in charge of furnaces in the first place. We trouble shot on the phone and realized someone would need to come Monday. Appointment set and problem solved. Temo is an outstanding employee and I would recommend John Owen Services because of the great work and professionalism that was shown by his employee

He didn't try to up-sell me on anything and was very forthcoming about the condition of our equipment. I would definitely recommend John Owens Services to a friend!
After collecting multiple opinions and estimates for a replacement of a 20 year old furnace and adding an aircon.unit we were so pleased with the honest assessment and answers we received to our questions about safety, noise, efficiency and sizing. The installation went smoothly and the site was kept very clean. Finally, once installed Beth B. the permits and inspection coordinator worked with my challenging schedule to find a good date, but when the county changed the time to coincide with an appointment I couldn't miss, she reassured me that she could handle the inspection at my home without me and so she did. Great experience all around and when it is time to replace our second unit we will be giving them a call.
Kentfield D.An excellent experience replacing the A/C unit and furnace at my rental property. The company I've used for twenty years that installed the old equipment, and maintained it annually, gave me a bid that was very high.
I did some research, asked around and John Owen came highly recommended - now I understand why. Everyone in his office was friendly, helpful and super-understanding about coordinating the work with the tenants. They handled everything including the scheduling of the systems test and permit inspections. I have learned that going with the long-established, Marin family dynasty companies can mean hyper-inflated pricing, at least in my case it almost did. Instead, John Owen installed the same exact equipment that the other company proposed at a price that was SIGNIFICANTLY (bold and underlined) better. Heating and cooling equipment that's not working is a real hassle, but I strongly urge you not to panic and go with the first bid you get from a big name company, and at very least get a second opinion from John Owen. I am walking away from two pre-paid annual maintenance plans with the other guys, from now on John Owen Services is the only HVAC company I'll work with. Great people, great communication, great workmanship, great pricing.

From they're friendly office staff to their knowledgeable service techs and installers. Overall very happy and satisfied with their services. the bid I received was very reasonable and competitive with the other companies in Marin. The installers did a great job installing a new High efficient furnace in my home. With a newborn baby in the house. Lila B.John Owens services recently serviced and repaired my home's entire HVAC system, and I couldn't be happier with the experience, start to finish. When my unit went out they were able to quickly schedule a technician who was prompt, knowledge, and courteous. He explained the recommended repairs, and he provided images of my system that he used to clearly explain what was occurring with my unit. The price was more than reasonable, and the service was more than top notch. The work took two days, and John himself worked together with the technician the second day. He was dedicated to seeing my job completed to the highest standard. Good communication, service, and value. I would highly recommend John and his team for any job.
Gray D.I attempted to hire John to install a new radiant heating system in my house as part of gut remodel that I recently completed. I'm an architect and consider myself pretty savvy when it comes to building systems. John gave me a bid on my project but I got a weird feeling from him at day 1. I proceeded to move forward with him anyway as my options were limited in this busy construction climate and he seemed to have good reviews.
When we actually got close to starting his portion of the project, he became more and more difficult to work with. When we were finally ready to start, I called to confirm his start date per our previous conversationhe basically told me that I wasn't prepared and he didn't agree with my proposed method of installation. He became more and more aggressive on the phone, told me that I don't know what I'm doing, and told me that I would never complete my project. He wouldn't stop talking so I actually had to hang up on him
In a pinch, I was referred to Bernie Cameron at Radiant Way who ended doing an amazing job and kept me on schedule. I would highly recommend Radiant Way. I completed my renovation in June and it turned out great, without any of the problems that John had been so insistent about.
The capstone is that I received an automated email from John Owens today, asking me for a review and to refer a friend. John, thanks for the reminder to tell everyone what an asshole you are!!
Quick update in response to John's response. The roofer tarped the roof the day that the radiant piping was installed and then came back three days later to finish his roofing. The roof is warrantied and the roofer didn't not have a problem with this method. The interior was dry when the walls were enclosed. Also, I only hung up the phone because John wouldn't stop talking. I hope it's clear that his inability to take any ownership of the situation, even in his Yelp response after the fact, demonstrates his arrogance.
Rep did an estimate for A/C after about 10 minutes at the house. All quotes came from a 'do not reply to' email address, contacted customer service there to ask follow up questions, got no response whatsoever, gave my business to someone else who deserved it.
