I began with pipe work, home improvement, and construction work. I added more licenses and offerings for boilers, HVAC, electrical work, and building to create a thriving service company which I transferred ownership in 1999.

Upon the sale of the company, I operated solely on referrals for an extended period. In 2011, I created JOS Inc. with a dedication to keeping it small and delivering high-quality services at a fair price.

My plumbing journey began in 1974. Over the years, I refined my expertise to become qualified in various fields. I work to expand my skills new techniques in my field every day.

I opened a plumbing business in Marin County in 1986. In 1988, I introduced boiler services and radiant heating and later, in 1994, I incorporated HVAC services. In 2002, I began offering contracting services with the inclusion of electrical work in 2006.

The reputation I built as a successful HVAC and plumbing company enabled me to transfer to a larger firm in 1999 prior to starting my new venture.

My focus is to deliver top-notch customer service to all our patrons. Assisting customers is my mission, and I love what I do.

A fantastic experience with Alex, Randy, Tracy and the team at John Owens services. I got four AC bids to install new AC in our home in Novato and this was the best one-Alex explained thoroughly what we needed, answered my many questions and wasn't too ""salesy"" (which was awesome). He talked my husband through doing the electrical (he's an electrician) and they scheduled the install very quickly. In comparison, other area companies came out, schmoozed and then never even got around to sending me a bid.
Randy completed the install in two days, was super communicative about what he was doing and was so pleasant with my kids!
We had a heater setting issue after the install, JO services had not one but TWO people back in my house before noon the next day to fix it, thanks to Tracy's quick and kind action. Couldn't recommend more highly.

I had a leak in my water heater. It was only 3 years old, but the prior owner had not registered the water heater, so I thought I was out of luck with a warranty. Then John Owens said CA has a rule where warranties are honored, even if the water heater was not registered. Chris, the excellent technician, called the manufacturer and they confirmed they would give me a new water heater! Chris arranged everything for me. He took my old water heater to Home Depot, traded it in for the new one, brought it back and installed it. On top of that, I had copper piping issues and he fixed them too. Chris did an superb job! I also like how accessible John Owens himself is to his staff. Chris was able to reach John to get his opinion on a couple of items, and each time, John immediately took his call and responded to him. An overall great customer experience!

I called an scheduled an appointment with John Owens and he did not show up for the appointment. Then I tried to reschedule and they said it would take another month for them to come out. It was a very cold winter and I was without a heater. Glad I found someone else to do the job.

I have used JOS in the past for an on demand water heater which I am very satisfied with. When my heating system in my addition failed I called JOS,
They sent out a service person as soon as an appointment was available.
Randy was very knowledgeable and suggested I consider replacing my system rather repair because it was already 25 years old...the repair was slightly less than half the cost of a new system so I decided to replace it.
The soonest I could get it done was one week out, disappointing but understandable. The installation was scheduled for the next Friday and they arrived at the time that was scheduled. The installers were very good and installed the system in about 6 hours.....though it was a messy job the left the addition clean and tidy. ...before they left they showed me how to operate the new thermostat and checked that the heater worked properly.
When I went to operate the system the next day, Saturday, it did not work.
Only cold air came from the registers and I could not control the fan or anything from the thermostat, I had to manually turn of the system just to stop the fan from blowing cold air into the room. I then called JOS to let them know the new system did not work...unfortunately their recording said they were closed until Monday and I should leave a message and they would get back to me...I also sent them an email describing the problem.
Though I hoped they might respond to my message I did not hear from them until Monday. It is understandable that we all need our weekends off not to be disturbed by customers. I do believe they should have had an emergency number possibly screened by a third party to ascertain the seriousness of the problem. For me it was just inconvenient not to have heat
for a few days but if you had a gas leak or something that needed immediate attention it could be dangerous....with all that said when it did get fixed on Monday all systems are go. So, I would have given 5 stars except for the fact that they were hard to contact when it could have been an emergency. I would recommend JOS, and I have.

I knew I had a bit of an unusual water heater problem in an old old house I use for my office, so when I talked to John Owens Services folks on the phone, I had some trepidations.
The two or three different dispatch people who answered the phone were calm and pretty knowledgeable. When they didn't know, they would confer with someone in their office and get an answer.
Their computerized dispatch system sent a text to me 10 minutes before his arrival, and had a picture of the technician, which I thought was a reassuring and friendly touch. Thus when technician Randy arrived, I knew him on sight. I was amazed at how this small detail got the interaction off to a good start.
I knew beforehand that the part needed would likely be a special order with an unknown delay. Randy said he could try a workaround that might work if I was willing. He was very clear about costs, gave a quote and answered a couple questions I had.
The workaround worked, and the house was immediately back in business with hot water! It cost exactly what he said, and he was done ahead of time. Well done, Randy ! You are a valuable asset to your company.
We definitely will be calling the John Owens Gang for future projects (radiant or solar heating ?) at our home, as well.

I'm called John Owens Services after my boiler, which runs my radiant heating, wen out on Christmas night. I called the next morning and Tim showed up the same day and repaired the boiler. He was professional and helpful in quickly diagnosing and repairing the unit. I plan on using them again the install a new upgraded and much more efficient heater soon (while the old one now runs fine it's very old and inefficient). I highly recommend John Owens Services. Ask for Tim if he's available!

My boiler for my radiant heat went out and I called four of the local companies for an estimate to replace the unit. John Owens was the only company to send someone out the same day. Matt, the estimator was right on time and provide an estimate that later was determined to be the best priced. They were the only company who would do the install within two days as Ongaro was a week out on just an appointment. The Technician Cesar was on time, very professional and advised me of other services John Owens offers. This was done without pressure. The install exceeded my expectations, was done to code and was professional. The basement was left cleaner then when he started. The phone staff and other office employees were amazing and never left me on hold. They were familiar with my account and treated me with the utmost respect.
