BEWARE!!! Big time crooks! I don't write a lot of reviews but want to warn others. I had an issue with a clogged drain. I tried OTC products and even rented a snake from home depot. No luck getting this clog cleared. I had John Moore send out a plumber. He does this song and dance about a cracked pipe under the floors. He even had a camera and tried to will me into believing he was showing me a busted pipe. I mean who can really tell what the hell is on that screen anyways. Blurry and distorted. He called for backup and his coworker came in with a well rehearsed spiel about having to break the concrete foundation to a tunnel under the house. Heavy push to get it done asap as the pipe could burst and cause severe water damage. Well, long story short after talking to 3 people with this company, they would cut me a deal and do it for 13k. I passed and got a second opinion with abacus plumbing. Now there's a good honest company! I only have a clogged pipe halfway through the house. They used a bigger snake to unclog. cost me just over 100.00. quite a difference from the 13k John Moore tried to cheat me out of.
We had a leak under our kitchen sink and the garbage disposal would back-up. We called John Moore, without reading the reviews and were given a 4 hour time frame for the plumber's arrival. He arrived in hour 5. His business card stated he was a " Master Plumber", however, he did not know the difference between a Mohen faucet and a Delta. He told us our faucet had a leak and he had no faucets with him, so we ran to Home Depot. He replaced our faucet and "fixed" the leak under the sink.. I suggested he please flush out the lines leading to the kitchen sink on the outside wall. He ignored me. The cost...$500+. Approximately 10 days later, same problem. Same Leak under sink, same back-up in garbage disposal, Same wait time, same arrival time, same "Master Plumber". He did not know the cause of the leak.
I dumped left-over spaghetti down the disposal to show him the same garbage disposal back-up. Again, I suggested a drain flush and he told me he "didn't do that kind of work" and that someone else would call me. I asked, "When, in a week or so?" He stated, " Oh no! Within an hour! " ( it's been approximately 10 days, still waiting.) he left us with a sink full of
Spaghetti . I guess he didn't have a plunger. My husband did and it worked wonderfully! We weren't charged for the second "service" call. However, he did reprimand me for calling him "Sir".
We had a leaky shower that only needed the cartridge replaced. My husband didn't have the correct tool to remove the handle. It was a Saturday...not hearing from other plumbers, so a friend recommended John Moore for emergency repairs. They wanted my credit card # up front for the $69 trip charge, then wanted to whack us $250 for a job that should only have cost some $75.
In just over a month of a complete inside and out install a tech has been called out at least 5 times. For their prices they should have 24 hr service. Who expects to not have a/c after 30 days? Calling customer service after you get in from work to find your expensive a/c system doesn't work is a joke, because there are no techs available to come out. I was given a window for the next day to have a tech come out. Who gives a damn about the next day when it's 100 degrees the night before. Customer service said someone would call and possibly bring out portable cooling units, but of course no call back was received. I'm going to suggest they come and pick up their equipment so that I can have a better servicing company service my needs. This has been a very bad experience from day 1. I would never refer them to anyone. So much for being a reputable company.

Had John Moore come out to do a pre-summer AC check up. Keep in my mind my AC unit is only 8 years and every year I have service on it. This was the first time I had used John Moore to do this. Five days later my AC is broken and not functional. I called John Moore, they stood me up for an appointment and now I am on my 3rd day without AC...DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!
My A/C system was not working properly so I called to have them send out a technician. No Call, No Show. I understand that sometimes deadlines cannot be met, but at least have the courtesy to call your customer and arrange for a new time. This will be my last time dealing with this company.
Was just thinking about how bad they are, and took the time to log on just to remind anyone interested in using them... DON'T.
Just don't. Trust me, it's not worth your time. And to be fair, the actual work they do is above average, even very good on most occasions. I know because I have used them for years, even at the inflated rates they charge. I knew I was getting ripped off, but felt like the quality of work made up for it a bit.
I have used John Moore for small quick jobs, emergencies, and even larger projects that I should have bid out. ($10K+)... They have made a TON of money off me, and that's my fault. I was loyal, and looked over the occasional "mistakes" from billing, or "up-charges" or add-ons. I was their perfect customer. Too lazy to do the easy job myself, and too busy to find someone else. And willing to pay the high prices just to get it fixed, whatever it was.
So, if I was their perfect customer and they screwed me over, imagine what they will do to you... I have a near perfect credit rating. I pay bills in advance of the due date. I am not a dead-beat or unable to pay in any way. But once John Moore turned a collections issue over to an attorney threatening legal action, I knew I was in for trouble. The last work they did for me was in January of 2013, several jobs totaling over $13K. I paid most up front, and used their no-interest payment option for the balance. I then paid that off immediately, and should be typing a glowing review for them instead of this one.
However, the legal letters started coming. They had designated an attorney and collections agency to chase me down for an inaccurate past due balance. And once those blood suckers get a hold of you, you are screwed. John Moore had never sent me an invoice, a request for payment, or notified me that they thought I owed them anything. They went straight to the demand letter. Nice...
Months of following up, looking for old invoices, hours digging through old check stubs and credit card statements to "prove my innocence" and NEVER did they see anything to value the business I gave them, or the mistakes they made with my account. The technicians that completed the work are conveniently no longer with them, so it is a "he said/she said" argument, and they just think I owe them money that I don't. I am such a sucker, I eventually paid them more just cause I couldn't prove 100% that I had paid some made up amount that I had never been invoiced. And the original quote and work order, and agreed upon services, along with past payments and accurate time line of events just fell on deaf ears.
Anyway, enough ranting, just don't. Take the time to find someone else. I was a huge customer and they stuck it to me, yours is coming if you work with these guys long enough...
If I do not give a star the system eill.not allow reviews. But is what the famous John Moore deserves after an estimate of $3,600.00 to replace a common house water heater my 5 star plumber replacer for $900.00 with added value of odd plumbing jobs fixed in the same visit.
It's now been four days since one of John Moore's Techs broke/stuck a sewer snake in my pipes, and STILL HAVE NOT HEARD WHAT THEY INTEND DO DO ABOUT IT. I requested that a Supervisor call me and all I have received are two calls from a Customer Service rep who said they are working on the problem, and a voice mail wanting to schedule a time for them to video the pipe. Meanwhile, I can't use my kitchen, one bathroom or my washer, because of there "experienced professionals". If you can't live up to your radio/TV ads, then you need to pull them.
Update- They sent a guy with a camera to video the plumbing line on Day 7 and surprise, they determined that there was a problem that caused the sewer snake to become stuck. The Tech worked up a quote for the repair ($13,300) and gave it to my wife, and said a formal quote will be E-Mailed to her later that day. Also, the Tech told her that it would not exceed the indicated amount and that it would take approximately 6 days to complete. The next afternoon (Day 8) she received the quote, but no where did it indicate a not-to-exceed amount, or the time frame for repair. I sent the guy who worked up the estimate asking these questions, as well as why the estimate included amount for "City Plumbing Permit/Inspection" when we are not in the City of Houston. I received a message back that I was free to call him, and I responded to him stating to please provide a written response. We are now at Day 11 and still no response. Yup, really "True Professionals".
Evelyn S.Let me start by saying that if allowed they would get ZERO stars. Phone service is good, but their technicians are out there to take advantage of you.
Reason for my call to John Moore: Water would stop coming out when I would turn the faucet to 'hot' in a shower/tub of a secondary bedroom in my home. First thing that came to mind was to call John Moore. Why? Because of the darn TV commercial. A gentlemen showed up, and wouldn't even touch anything. I had to explain and physically show him what the problem was. Without making a move he told me I would have to spend at least $2800 to repair it and that he would have to go through the bedroom's sheet rock to the tub which would mean I would have to call someone else to repair the sheet rock. I immediately dismissed him and told him I would have to live without hot water in that bedroom. Months later, another plumbing company was recommended. I called them, and in a matter of 30 minutes tops they completed the work and charged me $298.52. There was no destroying on any walls involved and they simply had to replace the shower cartridge. My review for Joe Nettles Plumbing comes next so check them out. They are the best.
Think twice before calling John Moore, as appealing as the commercial may be. Total rip off.
