Our water softener was leaking 5 gallons a day and everyone else said they could come in about four days. I called Alta Water and they came that day and fixed the issue by replacing the piece in only 20 minutes. Curtis was a great help and even showed me how to clean my boiler out to prevent calcium buildup.
If I could give lower I would. Over two years ago we had Downs come to the house to do an extensive plumbing project. The cost total was estimated at over $4500. We gave them a down payment of #2500. Eli came did some things each day for about 5-6 days. About a few hours each day. Then he either had an emergency he had to attend to or he was sick or just didn't show up. After those days, he never came back. After repeatedly calling and leaving messages we never heard from anyone. Last September I called and was told that they would call me back with a time and nothing. I called this year back in February, and there was a new person answering the phone. I was requesting a summary of what they did and what the #2500 paid for and was told she would email me the document. I have yet to receive it or was even called. Left messages for Vinnie and never a call back. This used to be a great company that I would recommend, but when John Downs retired, it went way downhill. We pretty much wrote off the balance of the $2500 down payment and acquired a very responsible plumber who has the task of finishing and fixing the work that was not done or was wrong. They no longer are at Central Road, apparently Vinnie moved everything to his home and hired unreliable workers.
Patti B.After spending several thousand dollars over the last 5 years with this company for a furnace replacement and an a/c repair we hired them to replace a gas fireplace insert. By their admission they said it was a small job that they would be happy to assist us with. After having 4 days of no call no show for appointment made a week previous we gave up and cancelled them. I have no issue with needing to reschedule I have a BIG problem with not getting the courtesy of a call. I would never recommend them because if this.
We woke up to no water (we are on a well) and we reached out to Downs Plumbing as soon as they opened. A technician was at the house within an hour, assessed the situation and gave us options along with prices. There was no pressure to select any option and after discussing them with the tech and my wife, we opted to replace the old pump system with a new design. The crew arrived after picking up the parts and within 4 hours had the entire system replaced and water back to the house. Can't say enough about the team they sent and the price was what we had been quoted even when they ran into some unexpected issues along the way.
cody came to my house. i needed a written estimate. he took pictures of my basement pipes to show JOHN the owner as cody was not sure of the materials and work involved for the estimate. i stood next to cody and watched him take pictures on his phone. i saw the pictures on his phone. a month later no estimate, i call DOWNS and according to the secretary, who was unbelievably rude ( has she been replaced yet? is she relative/girlfriend? is that how she's keeping her job?) cody said he had no estimate, he never took pictures and had no paperwork regarding his time at my house!!! so evidently lying is a skill necessary to working at DOWNS. if you get involved w/ this company be warned! then get a witness if they come to your house. and get every thing in writing!!
how do you people sleep at night after screwing someone over?
The initial consultation was great. He showed up to test our well water, diagnosed the problem and offered to shock the lines to kill the problematic bacteria. But he wanted $400 for that so I said I would check out my options and get back to him. He was very polite and didn't charge anything for that visit.
I eventually told him to pencil me in for the following week but wait for confirmation since I wasn't sure if I could get it handled myself or when we would be available. I never confirmed but I forgot to officially cancel before leaving town. Next thing I heard about it was a work crew belligerently banging on the door while my pregnant wife was home alone sick in bed. They even snooped in my garage (there are no windows) because she heard them yelling that someone must be home because both cars were there. By the time she made it to the door the truck was pulling away.
She called and left a message explaining that we were already squared away thanks to a friend's help and apologized for any confusion. A couple days later we received a bill for $85 for that ""service call""!! When I got home I called to explain that we never confirmed a service time and I didn't think I should have to pay a bill for that. Before I could even have a discussion he started literallyyelling at me that I scheduled it and it was my fault. Eventually he said, ""I'm not going to argue with you, throw the bill away!"" which is good since I had no intention of paying it in the first place.
If you want advice on well water problems, he seems to be pretty good and polite. But having seen how all of this went down, I'm really glad I didn't give him any business in the end. I will never deal with him and I'd advise you to look elsewhere.
