I have an older house and live in a neighborhood with lots of trees. It's pretty common for our sewer line to get blocked up due to tree roots. When this happened recently, I knew exactly what was wrong and gave John Henry's a call. I asked them for a quote over the phone. The lady just said they had a $50 diagnostic fee and that would be applied toward the service if we chose to have them do the work.
The technician came out a few hours later. I told him I just needed the tree roots cut out of the sewer and wanted and estimate. He looked at it and said the exact same thing: $50 diagnostic that they would apply to the hourly rate of $95.
He first walked into my house at 9:10 and finished up work at 10:15. He then ran his tools to the van and came back in to get paid. He did not show me an invoice, but told me it was $178. In a moment of stupidity, I didn't question it. I just wrote the check without thinking. He then left, but sat in his van in front of my house for almost 20 minutes.
Later that day I contacted John Henry's for a detailed bill. They said their GPS showed the van was at my house for 1.5 hours, so they were charging me for an hour and a half or labor.
When the technician was done he just casually mentioned that my t cone plug wasn't sealing super well so he had replaced it for me. He never asked me if it was ok and since he was so casual about it I assumed it was something they were maybe throwing in for free.
Turns out that little plug was $25.66. I found the EXACT some plug on amazon for $12, and I'm sure they don't pay nearly that amount for theirs.
In conclusion, the guy basically took a break in front of my house once the service was done to apparently run up the clock. Also, they installed a part that wasn't absolutely necessary, without asking me then charged and insane amount for it.
I contacted them with my concerns and they said they felt the charges were fair. I've used John Henry's in the past for some major things: new AC, heater, and water heater. They have now lost a customer for life.
Most expensive people in town to do any plumbing want to charge me $500 to connect my bathroom sink
Anneliese K.We always go to John Henry's for plumbing, a/c and such. We switched to them about 6 years ago and never looked back. They installed and service our dual a/c systems, our water heater, our furnace, cleaned our ducts. Their personnel are helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and professional, and pleasing the customer is their top priority. Really a model company for how to run a reputable business.
Marilyn M.A/C goes out on one of the hottest days of the year and John Henry's saves the day. From Leanne taking my call and being so helpful and positive to Weston being considerate and professional, explaining everything as he made the repairs, I was well taken care of. No surprise that they have earned the BBB Integrity Award . . . twice.
Chris was polite and did the best he could. We have pending issues.
Sandra W.At 10:00 at night my husband and I realized our sump pump was not working. The switch was broke in the 'on' position and wouldn't stop running. I called John Henry's at 10:20. By 11:00 the technician Adam was there. I couldn't have asked for better customer service. He went straight to his work. He replaced the pump and also 'fixed' an issue we had with the outgoing PVC pipe but didn't charge us any extra. Even though it was not a 'cheap' ticket, I was expecting it to be about $100 more, particularly since the service was at 11:00pm. If we would have had to wait until morning to replace the pump we would have had a flood in our basement by the time another technician would have arrived. Thank God for 24-hr service. Great job! I will use John Henry's again.
Only use if John Henry's is your last resort!
Required to use a camera on each clean out (with a cost).
Cannot obtain a copy of the video without paying an additional $150
Estimator does not provide actual Scope of work to be completed to support the extreamly High estemate (I compared thier cost to National, regaional, local plumbers etc.)John Henry's will not answer your questions completely and will not provide you with a detailed estimate. I am not sure why I went through this more than once with them.
Linda G.I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly they came out. I was not impressed with the cleanup of the mess. A mattress and box springs in my storage room was soaked on the bottom with rice and draino water. The mattresses were not moved and they remained sitting in the water. I will be having to toss the mattresses.
David W.I used John Henry's plumbing to fix a broken faucet to my outside hose. Josh showed up promptly, looked at the problem, diagnosed it, quoted me the repair price, fixed it, received payment and was on His way in very little time. He was nice and professional. Will use John Henry's again in future. Great job!
Sales presentation and installation were very good with one minor problem that was corrected quickly. One major issue that upset me was that the installers did not show up the day they were suppose to start the project. I was later told that because of the cold weather, the installers were out on emergencies and the office forgot to call me. I should have called, but waited all day for them to show up. Very irritating! Also, after the project was done and paid for, I received a bill showing I still owed for half the project and an additional late fee. Called and they said it was another office error.
Summary: Installation good, furnace and heat pump good, and some issues that I will forget over time.
