Greg K.Summary: Service OK, price ridiculously high.
The relief valve on our hot water heater was leaking and toggling. It didn't fix it. I could have replaced the relief valve by myself, but just to be certain that was the only problem we called a plumber. John Henry plumbing came promptly, which was good, and the technician was nice and efficient.
However, the cost was ridiculously high.
The charge for just coming out was $149 and it was $370 more for replacing the valve. The valve costs about $25 and the pipe dope and thread tape for completing the job cost about $6 at Menards, and it took less than 10 minutes of labor. So basically we paid $419 for a technician to come to the house and perform 10 minutes of labor to install $30 of parts. This is a job most homeowners could Google and do themselves, and I feel like an idiot for paying John Henry about $390 more than doing it myself.
Told me they couldn't tell me the price over the phone .. when they got here they told me it was $800. I said NO WAY. It's a simply main line clean out. Told them to leave and thank you but no thank you. I called Matt's plumbing and they did the SAME job for $200. Which is the sample price I've always paid for any plumber. now I have a bill in the mail from John Henry's for $50 for them just ""coming out"" like wtf? Called them and the lady was rude and said I was ""harassing her"" ... like what? Lady your company is charging me $50 for nothing after I told you I wouldn't pay your extortionate fee of $800! DO NOT HIRE THESE CROOKS!!!! WORSE COMPANY EVER!!!!!
always call around and get prices from other plumbers before using John Henry, I failed to do that because I'd used John Henry in the past and I was charged almost $250 more that other plumbers to have a garage disposal installed...
I have an elderly recently widowed mother in law that is very vulnerable and she hired John Henry to come in and fix leaks because her husband always had these fixed previously. Since the passing of her husband people prey on her not having knowledge on how to repair things and I feel they are taking advantage of her. She paid the repair man from John Henry 700. dollars to repair ALL leaks. When we arrived home I was in the basement while she went in to take a shower. All of a sudden a stream of water came from the ceiling which was under the tub. When I looked it was a steady leak coming from the tub. Needless to say this leak was never repaired. When we called them back to come out they came and told her it would be another 700 dollars to fix it. That will be over 1400 they are charging her to fix something that might be a 100 job. What a joke!! They should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of a senior citizen and one who is already emotionally fragile after the death of her beloved husband. Shame on YOU!!
Had John Henry over to fix water heater leak...2 1/2 years old, still under warranty, bought and installed by John Henry. On the phone, I thought everything was covered, ""should be"" was the term the dispatcher used, labor wasn't. I get it.
Tech came out: pulled cover off, 2 seconds, checked pressure valve 10 seconds, then told me: Need to flush water heater, sediment builds up and why we are at it add new heat rod, covered under warranty: cost $785...plus the $100 for days visit. (too much for me) Called Service Guard, didn't bother at first: because of ""warranty""...guy came out, spend a few minutes, draining...no sediments, replaced heat valve, 10 minutes: fixed, no cost....
John Henry has been out to my house 3x in the past month to ""fix"" a backed up sewer line. Continue to be told that cabling, and then jetting will solve the issue although it continues to be an issue. They also refuse to send you your own sewage drain video after paying roughly $1400 over a month for services. Do not recommend.
Called JH's Saturday to have someone come out and cable the sewer line, was told Tuesday would be the earliest appt so I declined. Sunday I received an (unrequested) callback telling me there was an opening on Monday after all, so I accepted it. The person who called me said that they would send a two-person team because of the size of the ""jetter"" system they would be using. It sounded expensive, so I asked for a ballpark cost, which she could not provide - the only thing she said was that it would be a $50 service call fee and then they would provide an estimate when they get there. That should have been my first warning, but no one else could get there sooner so I said OK. Monday morning I started having second thoughts so I called the office again and got the same run-around. No one there could give even me a ballpark estimate. So the jetter guys show up. First thing they wanted was for us to sign a contract agreeing to pay a minimum of over $800! We said NO to that and I started to press the guy to explain why someone couldn't have told us that BEFORE we made the appt. He said they didn't have any way of knowing how much a job might end up costing because they might have to pull a toilet, might break a line, etc. So in other words, the $800 is a minimum amount, but he still wouldn't admit that they could have told us that from the get-go - instead he just kept telling us how superior the jetting service was to standard cabling. He also blamed it on having some ""new people"" in the office and said he would look into why I wasn't given a better answer (I rolled my eyes at that). I asked him if they could guarantee that the jetting service would keep the line open any longer than standard cabling - he said no. Then I asked him how much they would charge for regular cabling (which is what I had requested to begin with), his assistant came up with a quote of over 400 dollars, which is twice what everyone else we've used over the years has charged us. Said no to that too. So we're out $50 and have to start over finding someone who can come ASAP.
Deanna P.Trever was kind, professional and quick.
Having 2 toilets installed with no extra issues and just your average toilet that was about 2 hours. No Itemized bill just a per job rate. All good but @ $1900.00 is definitely to much.
We hadn't had hot water in almost a week because the Striker wouldn't lite. This water heater is 2 years old that we bought from manards. I called John Henry and told them the situation I had. They came by the next day around 9:30 am. Before getting a contract out here I was told from them, to take a look at it and the labor it will be $50 only (we will come back to this ) . So when this young man came inside to look at the heater , in 5-10 mins he said that we will need to replace the old heater that I bought two years ago that will be roughly around 1,700. He said or we can replace the parts which will take 5-7 business days , then your looking at the parts you need , the labor to put it in , and the city to inspect it and you will be looking around 700 give or take. Then he started telling me the perks and benefits of buying ""Our"" heater , went into detail , like he was a damn salesman trying to sell girl scout cookies. I told the guy straight up that I'm not interested and the last time this happened , that I was told from JH that the heater needed to be replaced but all it need was new Thermal pilot and worked. He than said okay I still need payment for my inspection and quote I said okay , then he proceeded to tell me that it will be 100 for the quote of and the 10 mins of labor he spent there. I told him ""no sir there was no labor required of you , you just took a 2 min glance at my heater and that's was it and I was told $50 is all I needed to pay , he said okay that will be 50$ and left. Momma didn't raise no fool.
I contacted John Henry plumbing to install a new faucet. An installer came out and quickly installed a faucet, however, it was a fancy faucet. I asked if he had a simpler one, but he told me that was the only one in his truck. He told me to ""play with it for a few days"" to get used to it. He took my old faucet, did not leave me the box for the new one. The warranty paper he left was not for the faucet that was installed. He gave me a bill for $834 and I was shocked! I am a retired senior citizen on a fixed income. I contacted the office for an itemized bill so I could find out how much the faucet vs labor cost, I never got an itemized list. I called their office and told them the faucet is too complex for me, I was told they would see what they could do, maybe a check for $50 or $100, They eventually sent me a check for $50. I felt they took advantage of a senior citizen. I will not recommend them to anyone.
