Jim and Tyler repaired my shower 'mixer' cartridge quickly, and reasonably priced. They were kind, professional, and efficient. Will definitely use them again.
My second experience with Jim Needham Company was troubling. On April 10, 2024 a technician came out for a maintenance check. I am a VIP member. He told me he found carbon monoxide was too high and there were cracks in the heat exchanger. He put a red tag on the furnace and told me I had two options: a new exchanger for $4318.28 or a new furnace for $9082. Since the furnace is less than 5 years old, I told him I'd think about it. I called the company and tried to speak with the owner. A manager did call two hours after my request. He wanted to come out, but I wasn't sure the same team was the solution at that point. And, I had asked to speak with the owner.
In the following two weeks I decided to have two other companies check my furnace for cracks and carbon monoxide. Neither company found anything wrong with my furnace.
Very troubling.

needed to have my shower handle reset for temp control, said it would cost 400 dollars (way over priced). then he said that ""sometimes they will find something unexpected when they get in there"" i said if they do i would need to get a second opinion before proceeding and i was told "" we cannot do that, if we find something we have to fix it"" basically forcing me to agree to pay for anything they might find. i ended up taking the handle off myself and found a lot of calcium buildup, cleaned all the parts, reinstalled and it is fixed. I will never call them again.
I have been using Jim Needham for about a year now, and I'm going to keep using them. Why?
Communication: I always know when they will be coming, they always show up within the service window and contact me before they arrive to make sure I am here and ready. Once they arrive they very clearly communicate exactly what they need to do and get my ok before the work is done.
Looking out for me: The provider who installed my furnace (Not JN) did not install a safety feature designed to protect my furnace, so the Needham tech installed that for me. Now the furnace will be protected from water damage (instead of the originally supplied simple cut off switch located on the floor which would only activate AFTER water had drained from AC through furnace, damaging the furnace. Jeremy also pointed out how to install my furnace filter properly even though the original installer had done a bad job of building that out, so the filter has a problem staying in place. My furnace with filthy (as shown in pictures Jeremy provided) because the filter was not seating properly. I now know exactly what that filter placement should look like and how to keep it in place, in spite of the badly designed slot originally provided by the installer.
Looking out for employees: Great employees: Each and every one of them have been polite, seem happy with their job, and informative. Tony, who came to replace my toilet couldn't say enough about how he is always getting training to update his skills. Jeremy also mentioned what a good company Jim Needham is to work for: he said that JN really takes care of the employees.
I will stick with a company that cares for the employees and the clients.
Two techs from Jim Needham Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, and Drain came out for a ""free"" furnace inspection, then told us our heat exchanger was cracked and likely to leak carbon monoxide--and that they were required by law to shut our furnace down because it was unsafe. (It was all of 20 degrees outside at the time.) Then they quoted us a price to fix it that was more than a new furnace. We called a family friend who's been in the HVAC business for decades and he said, ""It's a scam. They make scratches in the dust and take pictures of it and say they are cracks."" We told the Jim Needham techs we planned to get a second opinion and would be in touch. Then our family friend came out to help and went into the crawl space to turn our furnace back on, and the techs had left our furnace dismantled! He had to put the thing back together before he could turn it on. Once he got it running, he tested one of the vents for carbon monoxide, and it was all clear.
Our furnace was running fine before and runs fine now. I'm embarrassed that we even considered paying this dishonest business almost $8,000 for a new furnace.
Please avoid this company and beware of any similar activity--including I'd say free inspections. I hope others will learn from our mistake. (I still paid our family friend for his time, but that cost was one I was grateful to pay.)
Called to get a price quote yesterday to install a water heater. Instead of giving a quote, they insisted I have them come out to see me. I gave up my afternoon to wait for them only to receive a call saying they weren't going to send anyone. Not the way to run a business. Call someone reliable.
Steve G.It is sad that I can't give a minus 10 stars. I had an appointment scheduled for Dec 16 between 10 am and 2 pm to clean a clogged drain. I received a text around 1:11that their technician who I will identify as VM would be finishing up and they would call me with an ETA. At 2:42 I called to see if they can could tell me when to expect the tech. I was told they had called me three time between between 1:15 and 1:30 to make sure I would be home. I checked my phone, they did not call. Not once. I did see they sent a text after 1:11 wanting me to confirm I would be home. WHAT? I had an appointment. Of course I would be home. I had been waiting all day. The operator said my tech had been sent to another job. I asked if I could be given an indication of when he might be arriving. The operator had no idea. I asked if he could call the tech to see if he had an idea of eta. I was told no. So I asked what suburb he was working in. I was told no. So I fired them. If the operator had been remotely human I would say give them a try at your own peril. Now, I say run from this miserable company. Do not do business with them.
I rarely leave reviews but I feel I needed to share my experience with this plumbing company. I tried twice to have a plumber come to my home to fix a drain and pipe issue. On the first occasion I left work early to be here on time for the appointment, only hours later to receive a call stating the technician was not able to make it. I understand emergencies happen so I gave them a second chance. I was scheduled again for today. The window they gave me was from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a very large arrival window but I need the work done so I agreed. AGAIN I received a call from them stating the technician would not make it within that 4 hour window. I asked when they would be able to arrive and she couldnt answer. By 3 p.m. I called them informing them i couldnt wait any longer for a technician. I also cancelled my service call with this company. Please think twice before using this company. You cannot trust they will arrive at your home on time and complete any services. Find a different company other than ?Jim Needham Heating Cooling Plumbing and Drain.
Brad W.I will not go back to this company. I had to connect some sinks and they tried quoting me almost 3.5k!!! $927 to provide and install a garbage disposal. Almost $1500 to connect a sink. For the sink, It's maybe $50-$100 in plastic parts and an hour to connect. I called another company to come quote and a Journeyman insured plumber quoted 20% of this price for everything. Just buyer beware of crazy high quotes from this company and make sure to get second quotes. I hate that feeling when people try to take advantage of me.
I was very disappointed by Jim Needham Plumbing services and was told by two other reputable plumbers that I was being taken advantage of. I have never written a bad review before and I reached out to Jim Needham two separate times to respond to the below concerns over the course of 50 days. They chose to ignore their customer and never responded. So, I am pasting my exact email that was sent to them below for transparency to others that need a trusted plumber:
""Thank you again for responding to my service request. I was told by your technician that this would be an extensive job, costing me over $1,000 to fix a small pinhole leak in a brand new line that was professionally installed ~ 18 months ago. Another reputable plumbing company was able to come verify this within hours and wrote the following to me:
""It is completely up to you, but I would recommend putting Jim Needham on your do-not-call list and take them out of consideration for the HOA and other homeowners. There are 3 different ways to fix the root cause of the issue without any drywall or collateral damage. This job itself ended up taking less than 30 minutes and is completely fixed now.""
The job ended up costing me less than $100. Just to ensure the above statement was not a fabrication, I asked another reputable plumber to compare the assessed issue and recommended fix between your company and the one that ended up doing the work. He confirmed that there were 3 ways to fix the job without cutting into drywall and also believed your recommended fix and quote to be very far from the minimum work needed to fix the root cause. He felt that you were gouging me.""
